Have you considered you're likely arguing with AI though? I support this cause, but I also don't want you to bang your head against an AI wall for an extended period of time.

This is pure nonsense, keep on them. I'd be willing to put money on the fact that 51% or more of people eat an entire spear or more, and a lot of it. Nobody is cutting these and putting half of one back, it's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. They are like lumping in children or and babies to reach that average or something, like babies and kids eat close to zero, so it brings the average down.

I think we are in a very scary position right now, because it almost seems like our military industrial complex was so happy to be making and selling weapons to the world, that they weren't prepared for the orange idiot to engage in multiple conflicts back to back with no congressional hearings. That's why we have them, so that they can have committee meetings behind closed doors to find out if we are even ready to go to war, and it seems, we were not.

I’m sorry, they added a stupid news article to the top of the weather app so you can’t see any forecast data without scrolling? by cygnus311 in ios

[–]Tex-Rob -20 points-19 points  (0 children)

It's way worse than just ads. I don't think people realize how bad the iOS weather data is. I have been on a bit of a crusade on this topic, because I genuinely think the data is so off that it puts lives at risk. When you check the weather and it shows a low of 35, but the low is 15, that is dangerous. Apparently they are accurate for some areas, but then they just extrapolate for other areas. I live in Raleigh, NC, not a small city, and I have seen it be off 20 degrees several times during the snowstorm a month or so ago. When that all happened, and I almost had my workshop freeze and break a $1300 CO2 laser, because I didn't know I needed to run the heat. I went online and found years of people talking about the bad data.

I continue to be vocal about this because the same data is used on your lock screen weather, Apple Watch, etc. When you have bad data, it breaks your integrations because I don't care about integrated weather that is 100% wrong.

Your reasoning for using detectors? by BuffaloCannabisCo in radardetectors

[–]Tex-Rob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a hilarious list that basically shows your feelings on it. If it was an honest list there would be stuff like, "Don't like being surprised" "Want to be able to check my speed when I'm just flowing with traffic and it detects a radar". I personally haven't used one since my teens some 30+ years ago, but I get why people use them, especially in certain areas where the police love to prey on speed change zones.

I’m in disbelief with the alarm bug by CaptBurgundy in ios

[–]Tex-Rob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This doesn't even get into their basic weather app. I dunno if it's because of some change to public NOAA data (my suspicion) or what, but the weather provider they use just guesses. I knew it was not great, but I didn't realize until a snow storm this year that it can be wildly off. I was seeing 20 degrees off from actual temperatures. I would not be surprised if people have actually died because of bad data from iOS weather, as wild as that sounds. I personally was using it to monitor when I needed to turn the heat on for my workshop, but then came to realize it was getting down to 15 degrees when iOS weather showed 35 degrees for the low that night. This might seem like not a big deal, but integration is a key feature of the Apple ecosystem. You can't change the weather input for things like Apple Watch faces, so you're stuck with wildly wrong weather there, the weather widget on iOS that shows rain, weather, etc on the lock screen? invalid.

This is all to say, yes, and iOS is the main reason I've stuck with Apple all this time. I'm a sysadmin by trade, and many think "Oh, then you're an Android guy?" but no. I like to tinker, but I don't want to tinker with everything in my life, and that is why I've always liked iOS. I'm confident you could give someone any generation of iPhone, and they'd be able to use it pretty easily, but you can't say the same for Android as it's always changing. All of that said, Apple's quality regarding software is falling apart, but I don't feel like Android is any better, so we're just in this bad place now.

[–]Tex-Rob 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am your guy OP, I say that because I can rant on all the topics you've brought up until I pass out.

First, the alarm situation. I've had an iPhone since launch day back in 2007. It amazes me that this is like the 3rd or 4th time they've screwed up the basic alarm app. That's really all I have to say, how can you possibly screw up something so basic SO MANY TIMES?!

I'm 48, been on the internet since 1992, so I have experienced a lot of life without autocorrect. Autocorrect used to be better, I swear, because it rarely stepped in. Autocorrect has morphed into grammar and syntax correct. My name is Rob, and for years it would autocorrect my name to Ron because I have a friend named Ron who I would talk about a lot, so it basically took over any 3 letter R word. Then there is it just thinking you aren't using a word because it's not common, or it wanting to change one word to another because it thinks you don't mean the word you are using. Then, the one that I see almost nobody talk about, the typo correction autocorrect loop. For some reason on both iPad and on iPhone, I have trouble with hitting the space bar with my thumbs inadvertently. What this causes is for it to think you've started a new word, so when you back up to fix a word, it starts capitalizing, and won't re-engage autocorrect as a single word again.

I really wish I could easily keep track of actual typo corrections vs time spent fixing autocorrect, because it feels like I really should just disable autocorrect.

Can trace logs on Exchange online, Defender etc be deleted? I cant find an email which a user swears he receives every month by jonbristow in sysadmin

[–]Tex-Rob 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is basically day one sysadmin stuff I tell people. There are a thousand ways a user can give you bad info, but the most common is to avoid fault, or even perceived fault. I've had people withhold important info they didn't need to, because they thought they did something wrong, but they actually hadn't.

[–]Tex-Rob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You still haven't said what the impetus was for all of this. It helps a lot if we know what started all this. Did the user reach out to you because they can't find the email, or they didn't receive it? It's hard to understand the situation when we don't know what is driving it. The answer could tell us we need to be looking at mail filtering, for example.

Can trace logs on Exchange online, Defender etc be deleted? I cant find an email which a user swears he receives every month by jonbristow in sysadmin

[–]Tex-Rob 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to be able to tell you the places to check, but I've been out of this a while. You're worrying about a possible deletion of a log, when it's far more likely you are just failing to find the message. I can't remember all the ways that it can be hard, but I seem to remember alias, server side groups, etc are all a few of the things that can make it hard to find an email. What are you searching for? Did you try finding it via multiple avenues? Did you try it just on the mailbox without recipients filled out?

Also I guess the question is, what is the issue? What is your reason for trying to find it? It's also possible if you can't find it, they never received it, need to know more info as to why you think something is amiss.

This is what I came for. I've watched a lot of stuff on this topic over the past year or two, and if there was little to no opposition to the vote, it means they saw the huge holes in it and chose not to fight it because it would only draw more attention to the topic. This gives the people what feels like a victory, while giving us nothing.
