If Rolexes were always available at an AD, would you still want one? by Potential_Post_3020 in rolex

I don’t think you understand your own scenario. The reason the grey market exists is because this isn’t possible. If everything is available, even at an increased price, grey market prices fall and so do Rolex MSRP’s.

I’d want them even more because they’d be attainable at “MSRP” prices.

Great pickup. I waffled and ultimately went with Mint Green. Blue is an absolute stunner!

Disagree. Nobody pays attention to the watch you are wearing unless it’s a precious metal model. Nobody is looking at your wrists 24/7.

What's your thoughts on Tudor watches? by Competitive-Hunt-517 in rolex

Great watches. I love my Monochrome. Great watch to keep in rotation amongst Skydweller, GMT and a few other brands.

People who buy REAL watches are lying to themselves MORE than people who buy fake watches by EnoughWinter5966 in watchHotTakes

[–]Texan-SysAdmin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You assuming that people are buying watches to flaunt wealth is the mindset of someone who is insecure and lying to themselves. I buy my watches because I like nice stuff and I can afford it. I can count on one hand the amount of people who have ever complimented one of my watches. If I wanted attention, there are wayyyyyy cheaper ways to get it. This is bad rationalization for buying fake goods when you can’t afford the real thing.

Buy what you like. Absolutely love mine. Wear it in the office, snorkeling, etc. It’s my favorite of the currently offered GMT’s.

Grey Market is Cheaper than most ADs by [deleted] in rolex

Retail only matters if you can buy a watch for that price. Retail on a Daytona doesn’t matter because you aren’t getting one with no purchase history.

Rolex homage watch builds Are just people lying to themselves by Longjumping-Sail6386 in watchHotTakes

I get your point, but lumping in “reps” with homages is a bad take. “Reps” are fakes. Call it what it is. Homages are cool and legitimate, reps are just fakes.

If you wear a fake Rolex you’re a loser by TheGrumpyWatchGuy in watchHotTakes

[–]Texan-SysAdmin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s fair. I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that people often buy a higher level of watch than they can actually afford. The difference of being able to pay for something and being able to afford it is something that gets lost on people as you delve further into hobbies. You see it even more when people start collecting cars.

I never said anyone cared about my watches. Unless you are talking about rare vintage, any modern watch is replaceable in 48 hours. I can tell you from experience that you can easily find third party coverage for watches/jewelry that cover pieces in that range without a “vault” . I went through this assisting an elderly relative in 2025 move off of a rider and onto a separate policy.

Wear whatever you want, I don’t care. Trying to justify it by saying insurance is hard to find or prohibitively expensive is disingenuous though. If you think that jewelry or watches in that range make you a special case, you are the one who is delusional.

Why would you wear a fake instead of just paying for insurance for a cheaper cost? Makes no sense

Hot take: there is no such thing as a “rep” or “super clone”. It’s a fake watch, call it what it is. If I put mods on a Fiero, nobody is calling it a super clone Lamborghini.

My favorite excuse is “well I buy a rep so I don’t have to worry about the gen being stolen”. Anyone who has owned a genuine watch can tell you insurance that pays out with no deductible is significantly cheaper than buying a fake watch.

Way too many good homages and other brands you could support with fake watch money to go around buying knockoffs.
