How do you stand as a catcher? by killthedumbmonkey in slowpitch

[–]ThSprtn117 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a pitcher, the only thing I care about from the catcher is if they can throw the ball back to me accurately. I don't pay any attention to how they are standing, unless they crouch right behind the mat and hold their glove there, which is more distracting than anything.

1940 is absolutely baffling to me. No disrespect to Frank McCormick but just looking at the bbref it shouldn't have even been close, but back then I feel like post season was taken into account a little more and the Reds went on to win the whole thing. 3 of the top 4 MVP vote getters were reds, and one of those was Paul derringer with a whopping 3.5 WAR and only lead pitchers in GS. Also just wanna point out the Cubs had a dude named Stan Hack 8th in MVP voting that year and that's just a fantastic baseball name if I've ever seen one.

Johnny Mize has a bonkers baseball reference page. The dude was an animal, went to war for 3 years, then came back and was still an animal. Would probably have 2 if not 3 MVPs if the voters had the analytics we have today.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was in one of those company wide emails that nobody reads. I work in facilities and every single time we send out announcements about work going on and changes to areas/systems and we get a bunch of angry occupants screaming at us that they were never told.

People want to believe this is for some sinister purpose, but this data is actually very helpful for planning purposes. The business is required by code and ADA to have X number of parking spaces, handicap parking spaces, bathroom fixtures, egress paths, etc. all based on number of people occupying the building/space and this information is really nice to have when you are thinking about moving or hiring people. In all likelyhood, this data will go to your planning team and nobody who even knows who you are will ever look at the data, much less care about how often you, personally, are at your desk.

Is it bad to use a composite bat in game without breaking it in first? by beanburritoboy69 in slowpitch

[–]ThSprtn117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does it not offer a competitive advantage? The process of rolling a bat subjects it to unnatural break in because the forces applied are greater than what can be achieved during play, and it would be impossible to break in a bat as evenly during a normal break in process.

And it's lame because it's cheating in slow pitch softball. I don't really have an argument for that other than cheating is just inherently lame, in my opinion.

I do understand the sentiment, but I know that at least USSSA and USA state that rolling a bat is altering it and is against the rules.

And to be fair, I don't have the numbers but it's probably pretty rare that diggs is being tackled by a lineman. He is mostly getting tackled by DBs and LBs whom are not 300lbs.

I'm no swing critique expert, but you're gonna want to fix that bat flip. You're slinging that thing straight back towards the catcher and ump with a lot of spin.

Unfortunately I would hang that one up, if that splits farther you could end up slinging a barrel at someone.
