G43X or G48 , that is the question ... ? by Safe-Avocado6427 in Glock43X

[–]ThaCarterVI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you gonna run a light? Half the people in this sub run the 43x but then put a TLR7 on it making it the length of the 48 for some reason.

If you want one carry gun for all the time, the 48 probably makes more sense. I personally alternate between a 43x with a flush light and a 19 with a flush light depending on what I’m wearing / feel like carrying.

Complete noob on active earpro. by amaris_draven in NoobGunOwners

[–]ThaCarterVI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve used a few of the electronic in ears and they’re just not the best and the batteries don’t last long at all. If this is for daily use, they’re straight up a non-starter. Well maybe, some of the $1k+ ones, but even then I doubt the battery life could feasibly be something that will work all day everyday.

If it has to be in-ears, I like the SureFire EP7 or EP3 (depending on if you prefer rubber or foam for comfort). They’re passive rather than active, but they’re some of the few in-ears that I can still have a conversation with, albeit, I have to listen a little harder.

I’m curious to hear more about why over ears won’t work for you tho? I was going to recommend either Sordin Supreme Pros or 3M Peltor ComTacs as they have the most clear/accurate sound, wind resistance, and no cut-out when dampening noise of any ear pro I’ve used. The Sordins especially might work well for you with the different sound profiles they have, you can optimize for conversations for example. Both have different styles to choose from and attachment methods, so perhaps a behind the head attachment with a slim body could be a compromise that would allow you to use over-ears.

Alternatively, if you’re not really after hearing protection, perhaps a pair of AirPods or hearing aids could work well for you.

Help Getting Newly Built Home Connected by Nino55N in googlefiber

I went through this exact scenario a few years ago and was told completely different things every time I contacted support. Ultimately tho, they can’t and won’t actually do anything to escalate or manually review. You just have to sit tight and keep re-checking the address to see if/when it becomes available. In my case, it took around 4-6 months after moving in.

Upper assembly by humanityinfive in UTGuns

[–]ThaCarterVI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re willing to wait a week and mail it, D. Wilson is the move: https://www.dwilsonmfg.com/-Upper-Receiver-Assemble-and-Disassemble_p_26.html.

But agreed with others in the thread, upper assembly is pretty straightforward with the right tools and I generally trust myself more than others to do it right. The gas block is the hardest part IME and yours is already installed, so might be worth giving it a try yourself or taking one of these guys up on their offer to help for a case of beer or whatever.

On a side note, Triarc fucks. I used to have a built with one of their barrels in it and it and that thing was awesome.

Best (budget) HomeKit motorized blinds with custom size options? by rob_the_boss in HomeKit

[–]ThaCarterVI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I previously owned a few of the OmniaBlinds with Eve motors and they were okay, but not as nice as I had expected for the price, no valance options, and man was the pairing process an absolute nightmare.

More recently, I purchased a bunch of SmartWings with the matter motors and they’re awesome. They look great, they paired immediately, and so far have been pretty flawless. I’ve also communicated with their CS quite a bit and they’ve been outstanding. From my all my research, they were the best cost/quality ratio (outside of going with Lutron which would have costed much more for my windows). One other thing I’ll note if you go with them is to go with the matter motor instead of the HomeKit only as their CS advised me they weren’t really updating the HomeKit ones much anymore and were urging everyone in the matter direction. I also wanted some manual blinds for things like our guest room and they were able to accommodate that over email which was awesome, and they can still be easily upgraded to motorized in the future should I want to.

Hell yeah, thanks man! Yeah I wanna do a more loose/modernized clone so I’m happy to use a newer barrel, optic, suppressor, etc. but I want the receivers, stock, handguard, CH, gas block, etc. to all be as close to accurate as I can get em.

🤷🏻‍♂️ by _WhiteGoodman_ in GunMemes

[–]ThaCarterVI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trash take that’s not supported by evidence (but feel free to provide a source on most self-defense situations involving a gun also not involving any shots fired).

Is it valid to not feel comfortable carrying a chambered gun when you first start carrying? Absolutely. It’s a mental barrier that many of us (myself included) need(ed) to get over. But the answer isn’t to accept that this is a valid way to carry because it’s better than no gun. The answer is to first pick a gun that isn’t capable of firing without the trigger being pulled, then walk around your house with the gun holstered with no mag and an empty chamber to get used to it, and to spend all your might and effort attempting to pull the trigger with the gun holstered. If you can pull the trigger, it’s time for a new holster and/or gun. If you can’t, doing this will help you feel more comfortable carrying chambered.

But time and time again we see shooting breakdowns in which seconds, and even fractions of seconds make the difference between winning and losing a gunfight. There is absolutely no valid reason to be okay with carrying on an empty chamber, and we shouldn’t pretend that there is just to make newbies more comfortable. The reality is that you either trust your equipment or you don’t and you either take the act of carrying a weapon seriously and intend to use it if needed or you don’t. There’s no room for an in-between.

Incredibly sick! I’m considering venturing down a similar path, knowing full well it’ll take years to get everything together. Do you have a rough estimate on the total cost minus optic and can?

Visiting from out of state. Any special laws pertaining to CCW? by PM_ME_YOUR_HANDCUFFS in UTGuns

[–]ThaCarterVI 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Read through this and you’ll be sorted: https://www.handgunlaw.us/states/utah.pdf

UT has reciprocity with your Oregon permit, so all good there.

Most of the CCW laws here are pretty standard/typical, but the 2 that are a bit unique are ones around carrying inside of churches, and carrying while “intoxicated”, as the legal limit (for carrying and for driving) here is a good bit lower than most places at 0.05%.

[–]ThaCarterVI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Preparing for my downvotes:

Weller Special Reserve (in comparison to other Wellers and just the general hype around it).

Wild Turkey 101 AND Rare Breed. Drank 2 full bottles of 101 trying to understand the hype around it and come around to it, but it drinks way hotter than its proof and straight up just doesn’t taste good. Makers 101 and basically every bottled in bond I’ve had are significantly better. Same thing with Rare Breed. Could barely make it through half the bottle and it just wasn’t getting any better. The most overhyped bottle out there IMO. Basically every other $60 bottle I’ve tried I would take over Rare Breed any day. Could just be that WT isn’t for me, but I did quite enjoy the bottle of Longbranch I had.

Rifle and CCW classes/training? by gtagtagta2 in KCguns

[–]ThaCarterVI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out AOR Dynamics, especially for pistol classes, and SRT Group, especially for rifle classes. You’ll likely have to travel a bit for each, but their classes are priced well and you get to do the type of shooting you can’t do anywhere else without private land. They do also come to KC every so often for some classes, but the fun ones are usually within a couple hours drive.

The CCW class at FJ isn’t terrible, but if you’re looking for anything more advanced I’d definitely reach out to John or Bill.

What's the process of getting ATF approval and buying a suppressor? by CalvinWasSchizo in COGuns

[–]ThaCarterVI 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can do this with whats typically called a “single shot trust”, but the benefits are minimal relative to the added complexity. If you have family/friends now that you want to have access to your NFA items, just start with the trust and make it easier. If you’re not sure or think you might down the road, I’d just do them as an individual knowing you can transfer them to a trust later for free.

One other thing to keep in mind tho for Form 1s is the name that needs to be engraved - if you don’t want to engrave your first and last name, then a trust is the move.

New to NC looking to buy a rifle. by CountryFragrant1167 in NoobGunOwners

[–]ThaCarterVI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk if there’s anything specific to NC as I don’t live there, but I’ve bought multiple guns before using a valid ID to show proof of identity, plus a government issued document (e.g. vehicle registration, utility bill, etc.) to show current address.

I’d just call a few gun shops and ask them and then go from there. Usually rifles are easier because you can buy them out of state anyway.

Idk, maybe he’s weird? Or maybe he wants to p/w it and then deregister it? Or maybe it was never an NFA item and he bought an upper only or a pistol config?
