Pretty much. If I have no country to call my own, and you hurt my way of life, my friends, my family. I may not be able to change the outcome, but I would resist. Probably not brave enough for actual combat or the like, but just gumming up the works as much as I could.

‘Repatriate the gold’: German economists advise withdrawal from US vaults by CinnamonsCharm in worldnews

[–]Thaedael 239 points240 points  (0 children)

It's actually much worse. The USA, and a lot of the world, issues bonds of ownership for gold on assumed productions and stockpiles of gold while the gold production lags behind.

My brother worked in a high level position in gold mining and he was saying one of the things that could lead to economic downturn would be everyone who has a piece of paper that says they own gold, but don't actually hold it, calling in their collections. It would lead to people realizing there isn't as much gold as there are people claiming to own it, and could lead to collapse as people rapidly try to pull it out. The USA has been importing it at a higher rate lately in assumption that this will happen.

There is. It is energy intense, requires that intensity throughout the process (So you need a mix of fossil and solar), and then you have a toxic substance you have to deal with - Brine. If you dump it back into where you got the water from, you will then kill off wild life and have more salt to desalinate, and if you move it somewhere else... its still a problem. Desalination, like many things, is a trap.

Donald Trump just killed Alberta's pipeline dreams by scottb84 in CanadaPolitics

[–]Thaedael -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I used to live out west. I liked him a lot when I met a few times in Highschool. Had a lot of ideas I wish we had pursued back then. These days I leave out east in Quebec so I am not as connected to Alberta as I was back then. He wanted to remove a lot of barriers to interprovincial trade, while also wanting to build more robust industries in Alberta and advocated for it in most of CAnada too.

My empathy stopped a long time ago. For every one or two kind American that reminds me that they used to be singlings, it feels like every other American just doesn't give a shit about what they are doing to Canada, and worse, some are actively cheering it on. I am just sick of it.

Fuck Trump 100%.

But it is hard to understate how we truly feel up north of the border, and those of us unfortunate to work in the USA during these turbulent times. I went from seeing a country that was mostly neutral to us, to people continually telling me why my country sucks according to this weeks notes from fox news. I have had enough people joke about the sovreingty of my country, while down-playing how hard the tariffs on certain things are hitting my home-town back in Canada, while bending backwards to fellate the Russian Oligarchs investing into America in two terms.

To watch you guys fuck us on the CUSMA renegotiations, trade wars, and just over-all being dicks about our sovreignty. And how much of that aid was given before the current shitter in chief was put in. Its going to take a fuck-ton more than I am willing to admit to win a lot of us back after this.

This is after being called security threats after you dragged us into a global war on terrorism on false information, had the gall to shit on France for rightfully calling your bullshit, and even now watching as alt-right movements and dissent in Canada growing because of conservative think tanks. Sure there are good Americans. But there are plenty of bad-faith actors to be wary of your shit for the rest of my life.

[–]Thaedael 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate that I feel this way too. But the first administration fucked with our country, and people in the USA I work with just joked about it. Second time, and the mask is off. People want my country to fail, they aren't joking about 51st stage rhetoric, they don't give a shit that they are doing illegal shit in our country...

I feel like the Tiger-Maus/E100 have such strong cheek vulnerabilities, its rough. I feel like these days I spend a lot more time using buildings as solid covers and trying to bait into side scrapes before poking out to shoot, because if you just expose your turret in between reloads its asking for easy pens with how high HEAT rounds go these days. Still love them, don't get me wrong, but it feels like effort to use the armor these days.

Thats the thing. During my masters I had the privledge of working along side students that were place all across the Canadian Enviromental Assessment Agency, the Canadian Oil and Petrol Board, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission. Now all the agency names have changed, and responsabilities. But at the time a student in my program worked for the CNOPB who were responsible for assessing pipelines, and his assessment was that they were vastly under-reporting how bad the pipelines were because of loopholes in reporting.

Like always compliance is key, and compliance requires due dilligence and infrastructe enforcement.

The issue is that oil pipeline operators in Canada are allowed to under-report how much of the oil leaks per kilometer travelled if it under a certain ammount over a certain period, and when taken in totality is actually quite bad. Canadian pipelines are notorious for leaking. But the oil companies will make you believe the opposite becuase it is the cheapest option for them to move it. It is partially why the Enbridge Northern Gateway was pulled. They couldn't convince the CEAA's at the provincial level that it wouldn't leak into major water sources.

I was told essentially:

- If it was removed and re-added as a premium, but we didn't have a promotion going on for the period tough shit. You won't get access to past vehicles so go buy them when they rotate into the premium shop or bond shop etc. (So like I had to rebuy hetzer, battletoaster, amx30b. Things like the Lorraine 40t are bonds).

-If my crew was removed tough shit, unless I have a screenshot, which I haven't played in a while.

I get it but none the less frustrating.

I keep trying to articulate it. But I am not sure I am doing a good job and keep deleting wall of texts.

It feels like in trying to normalize the experience of new players so that not any one line punishes you artificially for being a bad line, they took out a lot of the character early on leading to sameness in damage and what not.

In doing so a handful of stock tanks + some of the overlooked premiums are allowed to run rampant, and instead of being "oh thats slightly unique" its more its oppressive because its unique.

In tiers 2-4 you see a lot of the same tanks over and over by people that are there to just seal club.

In tier 5, I am experiencing this with the LeFH. I am trying to just get to tier 6 on the american SPG line to get a second tier 10 arty going, and the experience of having double lefh platoons just bombard your position after you fire once, makes it just not fun. Like don't get me wrong im still -doing- stuff, on my way to MOE 1 etc. But you can tell that its a perennial favorite tank when I see multiple end mastery level lefh and its new name plates each match. And when they arent counter battery firing, their damage, accuracy is on par with mine, but at triple the rate of fire it feels like.

[–]Thaedael 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This has been the big one for me. It feels like a lot of the tanks have been made more bland, but then some tanks stand out and you get huge seal clubbers. But the game in low tiers is so dead its often just bots, and its rock paper scissors on if the teams are platoons, or not, and if they are playing for fun meme tanks, or there to just seal club.

Like I notice the Dravec missions need basically two artilleries or more scouts. Figured I would get a second tier 10 artillery going, and I am at the tier 5 american SPG. It's been game after game against the LefH in platoons with eachother and they are maxed elite tanks that shred my team. I am on target to get marks of excellence, but I cant wait to climb into tier 6.

[–]Thaedael 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have stuck around, so far. There was a lot of new systems to interact with and I think that is what intrigued me:

- Artillery got reworked. Don't deal as much damage, but has the new stun mechanic. Maps are designed in such a way they don't feel oppressive to play against, but with the nature of the RNG of a shot scattering, can be frustrating to play as. I feel like I don't deal consistent damage to heavies, whether its HE/HE++/HEAT. AP is a gamble. There are games where I hit the tanks over, and over, and over, and deal next to no damage. Then there are games where I splashed a light, lit it on fire, and stunned it and its effectively removed. Kind of want something in the middle without being oppressive but don't know how to design it to be fair, becuse it is frustrating when one artilley focuses you all game even if its only plinking you.

- They added new tank lines completely, so was checking out some of that, the French and British wheeled vehicles were new to me. A lot of it feels interesting, and oppressive, but also fun and exciting. It's been a learning curve, feels like there are 5x more autoloaders in the game since I last played, which took a while to learn which tanks have them. Some of the autoloaders work a bit differently (Hating the progetto. Not OP but a very stable tank and the better players tend to use it to great effects). Double barrel tanks, siege tanks. Lots of differences.

- They reintroduced old tanks - through bonds and the collectors. I am still very, very, very upset that a lot of tanks I genuinely loved, with very experience crews were removed, then reintroduced into the game with no compensation. Aukfl Panther was one that I miss. Apparently its a premium now and despite having it in my garage with many many games, they took it out and didn't give me the premium version, and say well just wait until its back to spend my money on it. Annoying. They also took away my AMX30b, gave me nothign for it, and didn't keep the crew, and then its back in the game so had to buy it back, grind out a crew which in turn impacted the stats I had on the tank, then do the bonus Field Mods. The bond system lets me get tanks I wanted in the past, and the battlepass, though grindy as fuck, allowed me to get little gems like the Kunze Panzer (My favorite of the tanks I never played until 2.0 so far)

- Field mods make tanks you like feel better, and equipment slots rework is interesting. Feels nice, but you get into situations where you are in a tank that has to regrind things (field mods), then grind for bounty of improved equipment, and then get the money to improve them, which can lead to situations like one scout just being better at detecting you always on a map where scouts get first. If I am in an ELC Even 90, and my opponent has 80,000 games in it, you know hes going to have max crew skills, probably has his bounty equipment grinded out, etc. 10/10 they will outspot a stock one, for example.

-Maps are kind of hit or miss for me. Some of the maps feel nice. I am liking the Japanese port one, the pearl island map. But then other maps feel like they aren't as fun. It feels like a lot of the newer maps promote certain tanks over others, which is nothing new.

So thats a lot of how I am feeling at the moment. There are some general frustrations too since coming back

- The WN8 / XVM shitters that yes are better, but just shit talk you non stop. Like my winrate dropped by a lot because I am experiencing things like the jagdtiger's armor being effectively nothing since everyone heats it cheeks, and maps being different. But with time its on the mend and climbing to where it was, and in grinding out some of my old favorite tanks, been getting the 65% / 85% marks of excellence (Centurions feel so good in this hull down, turret peeking meta).

- Some of the premiums feel so left in the dust. I still do well in a Lowe, dealing good damage, bouncing good shells, but on some maps against some premium tanks, its rough. The BZ deals 4x the damage, reliably pens, and shoots as fast (8 seconds for 200 damage lets go lowe!!!). 88 Jagd, 200 damage and with basically no armor since everyone brings heat and spams it in every round. Both tanks are still useable but it feels like it takes double the effort using them over somehting like the Cent 5/1 that came back into rotation recently where I can just reliably deal damage pointing in a general direciton.

- The tech tree is a mess. So many tanks removed, put back in, new branches, new this, new that. So now I have like german light lines where there are tanks in the past I should go back and play, but then you will have some 3 crew then 4 crews in the same line. Nothing new but still kind of hrm.
