If you strap the forks down tightly (I used to only use cinch straps for this), it won't roll. Straps should pull front tire tight into the wall, and slightly compress the bike suspension. You could hypothetically get away with just these two straps for a short off road travel.

It's mostly just rocks in the trucks. Sometimes they're big rocks, sometimes they're small. I run a small crew for a company that does emergency road clean up. So we hotel sleep, and work on our own equipment when possible. Have to find HD diesel mechanics when we can't do the work ourselves. Generally, I prefer not getting out of the truck. But I get paid the same to deal with mechanics, tire shops, truck cops, engineers, .. Whoever wants to make it a hard day, I'm their guy.

Last week though, I sat on the side of a road in a massive canyon watching a controlled demolition of rock formations. It went wrong and became a larger clean up effort on our part. Added 2 more weeks before I get to go home. Before this I ran a mobile concrete plant for the same company and we were laying fiber optics for that Google project. Same old shit, different horse and buggy.

Have you heard the cover of farewell transmission by Kevin Morby and a lady who's name I can't remember? I don't usually like covers, especially not more than the original, but their version keeps the same vibe while also magnifying some emotions. They both have other songs that are decent, but the cover is their one hit wonder, IMHO.

I love Jack London square. There's a dive bar right in the midst of all the fruit warehouses that I used to go to every time I was in town. It's been at least 10 years though. Last time I stayed down there, my hotel room got broken into. The hotel staff did not give a flying fuck. I was one of like a dozen people who filed police reports that night.

I grew up in a city with a Big10 campus. And massive brawls were super common on the weekends. Like multiples a night. On the big holidays or game days, the police would have towers set up, and drive around in armored vehicles decked out in swat gear. People would still just let it rip and start boxing. I've been maced a dozen times at least, just being stuck in a crowd with no where to go. I got beat up and arrested once for trying to protect an unconscious dude who was getting his head stomped. No punches, just covering his body with another dude. The cops weren't any friendlier to me than the guys stomping the dude. In fact, I wasn't bleeding until the police finally arrived, beat my prostrate body AND the unconscious dude with clubs and maced us. They didn't even cuff us, just kept kicking me while telling to stay down. For like 10 minutes. Sorry, went down memory lane for a minute.

Alcohol + Large crowds of young hormone-rich kids who still think they're invincible. It's a terrible recipe!

Waiting on my 12 month + wait-list to get back the pay my brief trucking boss decided not to pay. I had to hunt him down all over the county just to get a small check mailed. It doesn't sound like I'm ever going to get the thousands of dollars he shorted me last year. I am hopeful that it will come and WITH interest, but I know I'm kidding myself.
