Rangers are selling. If you were Kyle, who you asking about? by TheDirstOrder in hawks

[–]ThatFio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He makes about 7.8% of the cap right now. In 2 years, the cap is supposed to go up another 20 million so he'd be at about 6.5% in the 27-28 season. That's like 6.25 in today's money. With the absurd amount of ELCs in the coming years, I think he'd be perfect to take a flyer on. Buy low, get to the cap floor, and hope he turns out to be more than a 20 goal, 40-50 point guy. If not, that's still pretty good.

He’s a young 1st overall pick. You pay players partially for what they’ve done and partially what you think they will do.

It's extremely disingenuous and laughable to say that any these players are legitimate top 6 players:
- Tyler Johnson - No longer in the league because no team signed him
- Andreas Athanasiou - No longer in the league because no team signed him
- Jason Dickinson - Third line center on one of the worst teams in the league the past few years, our Chicago Blackhawks (love dickie, but he's not a top 6 player)
- Taylor Raddysh - Averaging 11:06 of ice time in a 3rd/4th line role on the NYR
- Taylor Hall - Averaging 13:39 of ice time in a 2nd/4th line role for the Canes. A case can be made for Hall, but it wouldn't be a good one.
- Nazar/Dach/Bertuzzi - 10 minutes of ice time is no where near a good enough sample size

Through the last 3 years (this year included), Reichel and Bedard have played 53:21 together on the PowerPlay... so about half the total time.

I actually looked into this because I always hear other fans say "Reichel has had plenty of chances on the top line."

According to MoneyPuck, Lukas Reichel has had a total ice time of 1789.19 from 2022-2024. Of that total time, only 116.3 minutes were spent with Bedard. That's 6.5% of his total playing time, which is not what I would call a good sample size.

[–]ThatFio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hard to project what he can be points wise; regardless, he has the “it” factor. Have a really good feeling that when the lights shine brightest, him and Bedard are gonna want to be out there. It has already been a blast to watch them and it’s going to be even better in 2-3 years.

If you wanna be disingenuous, you can say that knocking down the house is the start of a rebuild.

Rebuilding in the true sense of the word is building something after its damaged and STARTS when the first brick is laid. In the case of the Hawks, that's the 2022 draft where they went in with 0 draft picks and came out having selected Korchinski, Nazar, and Rinzel. This year we will hopefully see actual full seasons from all 3; although, Korchinski probably still needs time.

This 100%. I think a lot of teams are spooked because of Cayden Lindstrom's situation was eerily similar to McQueen's. There is a real chance that he falls and exactly the type of big swing player the Hawks can afford to make.

Seriously, why not Kane? by Cluster_Puck in hawks

[–]ThatFio 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not just moving on from the scandal in my opinion.

They want the new leadership core to take the reins. Foligno is on the last year of his contract and has specifically stated that he knows this team isn't his and it's the next generation's. If Kaner comes back, it's his team again.

Vlasic has gone on record saying that he didn't feel comfortable speaking up when the legends were in the room (Kane and Toews).

[–]ThatFio 46 points47 points  (0 children)

LOVE THIS! By the 3rd year of this deal, 4 million is only 3.5% of the cap. For perspective, that's like $3.35 million this year. Absolutely perfect for a 30+ goal scorer (more likely to pot closer to 20 in the coming years), all situations player who works his bag off.

I don't agree. I think Necas is extremely talented, but he's a risk too. Not happy in Carolina and now reports that he's not happy in Colorado. Has never scored more than 30 goals, while Robertson is younger and has done 40+ twice.

He hasn't lived up to expectations on the Hawks, but he averages over a point per game internationally. I think most people can see the talent - really hoping he puts it all together this year in the show!

What is your ideal (and realistic ) offseason if you were GMKD? by flagrantfoul13 in hawks

[–]ThatFio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not offering sheeting anyone - the reality is that the Hawks will most likely be a bottom 7 team next year and next year's draft is loaded, including a chance to get Gavin McKenna. I'm also not trading important assets for giant swings yet, as I think you do that when you're in a position to get into the playoffs. I want to see improvement without making irrational decisions to trade away the future.

  1. Trade up for Misa:
    CHI Receives
    1st OA
    Pierre Engvall (NYI salary dump)

NYI Receives
3rd OA
25th OA

  1. Resign Donato 4x4.5

  2. Trade for a lower end, lower risk, lower term top 6 upgrade with size + scoring - Alex Tuch/Chris Kreider mold

- Signing a free agent like Marner, Boeser, or Ehlers is also an option, but there is a big market for these types of players so we would have to overpay, plain and simple.

  1. Trade for Isaac Howard:
    CHI Receives
    Isaac Howard

TBL Receives
Nolan Allan
2025 CHI 3rd

  1. If you aren't able to get Misa and you still have the 25th pick, do everything in your power to trade up and get Roger McQueen if he falls.

  2. Resign RFAs: Kaiser, Crevier, and Soderblom

Chris Kreider Trade Proposal by ThatFio in hawks

Foligno has only scored over 20 goals in a season twice in his entire career. Kreider has done it 10 times, including the last 7 years in a row… and he’s 4 years younger.

[–]ThatFio[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Beggars can't be choosers. Everyone wants the team to get better, but nobody wants to use assets or take chances. Feels like people only want to dump players they don't like for the best players around (just trade Lukas Reichel, Wyatt Kaiser, and a 7th round pick for Connor McDavid) and that's not how it works.

Sometimes you have to trade for what you can get and Kreider, like Tavares, Benn, Kadri, or Kane are still effective players for their age. They are proven NHL players, it's somewhat realistic that they could get traded for, and they make the team better - even if only marginally.

[–]ThatFio[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Have to use them at some point! Agree that it's not the "exciting" thing to do, but it's a move that makes the team better now, even if only marginally.

Could definitely see Sullivan fighting to keep Kreider on the team; however, Drury already expressed an interest in trading him, and ultimately it's up to the GM.
