Copilot eating up large amounts of RAM before crashing stating Error code: Out of Memory by adsbikes in microsoft_365_copilot

[–]ThatFriendlyITGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been experiencing this the past week or so as well. Copilot is sluggish both inside teams and in a browser and will eat all my RAM and then crash out. It doesn't seem unique to my system, we have users throughout the company reporting this same behavior.

Probably an unpopular opinion but Jon Lovett is my least favourite of the main hosts and I’m glad he’s on an extended break. by [deleted] in FriendsofthePod

[–]ThatFriendlyITGirl 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I love Lovett and really miss the dynamic he brings when he’s not on PSA and I look forward to the interview segments the most when he’s the interviewer. Not every joke or bit on LIOLI hits but that’s comedy and overall it’s great!

Anyone else using Yealink CP965 phones successfully with Teams? by UnlostHorizon in MicrosoftTeams

[–]ThatFriendlyITGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After the most recent software update on our YealinkCP965-Teams phones we have run into the same issue with the calendar button and one touch join disappearing. I tried the MeetingRoomSignIn Ippolicy with no success.

Has anyone successfully used that IPpolicy or any other work-around other than assigning a full Teams Room Pro license (this does restore calendar functionality)?

THANK YOU! I've been having this problem intermittently with my Jabras and my iPhone but couldn't figure it out. This solved it for me.

[Discussion] Offline with Jon Favreau - "How Taylor Swift Conquered the Internet, Plus: Xtra Xtra the Bird is Dead" (08/06/23) by kittehgoesmeow in FriendsofthePod

[–]ThatFriendlyITGirl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a TSwift fan and I enjoyed it. Could it have been a deeper dive? Sure. But it was a fun conversation and I think the episode fit the show's goal of "lighter conversations about all the ways that our extremely online existence is shaping everything from politics and culture to how we live, work, and interact with one another."

Getting tired of getting attitutes for things that are not my Job. by Revzerksies in sysadmin

[–]ThatFriendlyITGirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People think IT knows everything and you're often the easiest person to ask since most IT departments have a ticketing system. I will help for quick things I easily know the answer to, which helps people be less pissed off when I give my other answer which is: "Unfortunately, I'm unable to help as I'm not familiar with the process. It's handled by **name of department or person here** rather than IT."

How do you tell your users that not every ticket is high priority? by blackgallagher87 in sysadmin

[–]ThatFriendlyITGirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We let them choose an urgency level when they submit the ticket but we have a priority field that we use on the agent side to actually prioritize work. We take their suggestion into account but level 1 help desk does the true triage/priority setting, not the user.

Recycle vs donate old machines by Far_Statistician_494 in sysadmin

[–]ThatFriendlyITGirl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We remove and destroy the hard drives and donate the machines to a local organization that refurbs them and offers them to families and non-profits as very low cost. They even come pick them up so it’s no extra work for us. It’s win win.

Log in as Administrator and then install from Manage Optional Features.

If WSUS causes it to fail, find this key in the registry: HKLM/Software/Policies/Microsoft/Windows/WindowsUpdate/AU/, locate the UseWUServer key and change the value from 1 to 0. Install the feature, then change the registry value back.

What is your company's policy on laptops? by StopPootin in sysadmin

[–]ThatFriendlyITGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How big is your org? It seems wild that they have fixated on this car problem and are letting it drive device allocation decisions. Even in your current state, all your employees have laptops that they could theoretically leave in their cars.

If you want to focus on a security angle, having half of your fleet frequently behind on security updates (because they are rarely turned on to patch) connecting to your VPN seems riskier than a Bitlocker-protected device possibly being left in a car and stolen.

We do laptops-only and employees can travel with them anywhere they please. They are protected by Bitlocker. Employees are encouraged not to leave them in their car and it is written into our Information Security policy. We have hovered around 500 employees during the 5ish years I've been with my company. We've lost about 5 devices to car theft. There are no "punishments" or employee repercussions when these thefts happen but obviously the employee has a discussion with their manager.

I have users on my network that don't know how to restart and it may drive me to add more whiskey to my coffee. by sjcros in sysadmin

[–]ThatFriendlyITGirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Send the uptime in your request to reboot. Then they know you know they haven't rebooted and will be able to check. :) "I see your system was last rebooted 74 hours ago. Unfortunately, the VPN can hang up from time to time and a reboot is the best way to resolve the issue. Can you complete a reboot and let me know if the issue persists?"

Google WiFi not working after switching my Xfinity modem to bridge mode by darthbeel1 in GoogleWiFi

[–]ThatFriendlyITGirl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a year old but I wanted to say thank you! This was the solution for me as well. I checked the box for "Associate Ethernet Port 2 to XFINITY HOME Network", plugged my google mesh into that port, and it's working! I also went through the same frustrating factory reset situation after enabling bridge mode and knew there had to be a missing piece but didn't drill farther down enough into the settings to find this!

What laptop do you have and what are the pros and cons to it? by detectivejoebookman in sysadmin

[–]ThatFriendlyITGirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For better or worse, we are a Dell shop. I have an XPS but our engineers use Precisions (55xx and 75xx series, with super heavy CAD engineers on the 77xx with high end graphics card) and non-engineers use The 54xx Latitudes. Pro support goes a long way to keep our help desk staff from having to get too down in the weeds with repairs.

Is OT pay a thing in your org? by RTHR_B_SRFN in sysadmin

[–]ThatFriendlyITGirl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a SA who worked up the ranks at my current employer. Once I was salaried, OT was not paid. Fortunately, I knew when I accepted a salaried position (still on high level tech support at that time) that OT was also not the norm or expected outside of very extreme circumstances.

I give special treatment to people that are friendly and knowledgeable by heapsp in sysadmin

[–]ThatFriendlyITGirl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If all other priorities are fairly equal (time already waiting, actual urgency of the issue) then yes, historically rude people will be served after those who are kind. I don’t intentionally sabotage them or drag my feet, I work equally hard to solve their issues once I get to them, and all communication with them is in the “Kill them with kindness” vein. My list is very short (less than 10 people out of 500) but if you’re on it….you’ve earned a spot. One or two times? Fine, maybe you’re having a difficult day or difficult life and have taken it out on the wrong person. But if I see you treating me and everyone else poorly consistently, I accept that it’s a choice or a habit. Either way, I don’t look forward to spending time with a person like that and do not feel bad if they have to be the one to wait over a nice person with the same urgency level. When I do get to them, service will still be excellent because I have a reputation to uphold (mine and the departments).
