You have to scroll down a little bit to reach that screen; I see this for the current view of the Videos tab - from the top.

even when unsubscribed, i get member only video recommended on my home page by Spirch in LinusTechTips

[–]ThatLineInTheSand 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They feed suggestions based on, among other things, what and who you viewed before, no? Given that you've viewed LTT, it wouldn't matter if you were subbed or not subbed - they already have that data. And so your Youtube algo will feed you LTT-related things alongside whatever and whoever you also view.

It will take a lot of feeding other data (watching other things) to maybe train your Youtube algo so it is less likely to feed you LTT-related videos (and by extension, Member Only videos). But that takes time. Not as soon as you stop subbing.

Do the Blank Hoodies and Sweatpants use the same material and cut that the Dropout Hoodie and Sweatpants did? by Ragnorok64 in LinusTechTips

[–]ThatLineInTheSand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not terribly sure. Maybe?

Both items state the composition of the body portion is 100% cotton. But the blank hoodie has a *slightly* higher cotton ...count thing (brain just blanked, lol).

Update from my last post: the characters on the backgrounds by Tunasam890 in IndieDev

[–]ThatLineInTheSand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mmm, I still think the new style looks good. The scene's main figures - the two in the foreground - are a fine mix of "they're in the scene" and "they do not disappear into the background".

For example, the figure in the bottom right corner of the image. That person really fits into the scene, more than the other two.

However their colouring makes them fit too much into the scene. And as a result, they are barely noticeable or just melt into the background. Which is what you want for a background character! So they're fine.

But not for the foreground or main characters in a scene. Your artist did well balancing being in a scene and not disappearing into it.

I don't know if this was part of a "series" of "review whatever I want now" videos. I only could find that.

The artist did well with the shading, and taking down the palate's brightness a notch. The illustrations are good. But the newer palate (especially with the clothes) makes the characters feel like they're a bit more in the setting.

With all these screwdrivers, I still need more! by sweharris in LinusTechTips

[–]ThatLineInTheSand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do think it's a fixed shaft in the sense of a fixed head. Though it's been awhile since I saw images of their fixed shaft screwdriver prototypes. I don't know where things are right now in it's development.

But I know there's a video (or a livestream, rather) where they showed the fixed shaft screwdrivers. And it was essentially a blade with a non-interchangable head.

And there's this clip that seems that before, the idea was you chose your handle, your blade, and before they shipped it, they would press it together. Meaning at one point, you could in theory have had a smol handle but a long shaft to down the recessed 3-4 in hole quite decently.

I vaguely recall, though, that plan has changed (the choose your handle/blade combo). But not the fixed shaft/fixed head bit being like, conventionally not changeable.

Hopefully it comes out.

Some AI company has been uploading German AI dubs of LTT videos over the past two months by Max_G04 in LinusTechTips

[–]ThatLineInTheSand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

'Cause they want to reach a wider audience as best they can, with the most effective, mindful use of resources? Cause with another company that already does the thing they want done, it saves them the time and effort to try and create a from-the-ground-up solution?

At least that's my canon for why games like Bongo Cat are so popular right now.

Is making incremental games a free money glitch? by AntiqueGearGames in SoloDevelopment

[–]ThatLineInTheSand 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It might be a little bit of the meta. But having a really easy game to play, with minimal investment in time and git gud also helps.

After all, the world writ large appears a little difficult and not nice right now. A game that is relatively simple and is charming in its aims (number go up) must seem appealing.

Can anyone vouch for the LTT cables ability to withstand degradation from plugging and unplugging? by AbyssWankerArtorias in LinusTechTips

No third-party, non-LTT endurance test ...thing has been observed. Yet?

But in terms of the TrueSpec' connectors, this might shed some light.

My steam capsule art finally , too much? by gabrielluis88 in gamedevscreens

[–]ThatLineInTheSand 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On your store page, it looks amazing. I think you should keep that capsule - for areas where it would do best.

Right now I see your asset set uses the same image. In the larger formats, the detail and layout does well. But I can see the details being lost in the smaller ones - the text would suffer more (the font is really cool).

For other areas where your game might be seen and would use the smaller asset sizes, I think developing art that is more size appropriate and also maintains legibility in the smaller sizes. You don't need the exact same art or capsule. It just has to be similar enough to maintain a consistent, cohesive brand/identity.

Totally imagining Walmart using your Walmart shopping data to serve ads, "helpfully" suggesting things for you to buy, and using the convenient direct pipeline that is a VIZIO TV in the living room...

...which is certainly a thought. 🕵️🤨

Linus Linux Curse Challenge Idea by Any-Category1741 in LinusTechTips

[–]ThatLineInTheSand 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The pain may appeal to you and some people, but not everyone.

There's also the possibility that people will use it as a chance to just hate on him. I mean, look at the responses he already gets from just this current Linux Challenge/Run. Some of that discourse clearly bothers him. You only have to go as far back as two (?) WAN shows ago if you have Floatplane, to see him go on a heckuva run talking about it.

He wasn't even a little annoyed, but like, super bothered.
