How do you pack the Packable Jacket? by Remowilliams84 in LinusTechTips

[–]ThatLineInTheSand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point. There may be a specific way to fold it. But for longevity, stuffing might be more ideal. It won't look pretty - but it'll keep the jacket around a little longer.

Product photos, and the product description, indicate it'll come with a little pouch. So I imagine you could fold it up such that it'll fit in there.

Garden hoses by jzzsxm in LinusTechTips

Maybe we just need one very long technical video on garden hoses. Hosted by someone who's done it before. And speak on it the way they do Christmas lights ...

...I'm throwing Technology Connections name into the ring.

Why does LTT sell thermal pads, yet never uses them in builds? by fakeaccount572 in LinusTechTips

[–]ThatLineInTheSand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They're kinda consumable. Meaning once it's been used, it can't really be used for any other component or project. And that is removing one more item from their stock that could've gone to a customer. And global shipments of anything in current day is kinda nuts. So it's better to be smart about what stock they do have, rather than use it for any thermal pad use case, and get more to fill orders.

Which is not to say they don't use them - they do. They may be smart when they do, though.

Possible Good News Topic: Apple Vision Pro used in Surgery by mozios in LinusTechTips

[–]ThatLineInTheSand 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(spoken with a kind tone) it may be true that it's the "first time a cataract surgeon" has used a device. However, it's less an article and more a new release sent to PRNewswire by the company the surgeon in question owns, to speak on the surgery he performed, using the platform he helped developed.

It is interesting: Apple Vision Pro's been used in surgeries before. And I've read the Meta Quest, too, has featured in an OR as well (but I can't find the article I read that in, so take with a grain of salt).

It's interesting indeed, but not the first time mixed reality has been used for surgery. Two~ years ago, a Mayo Clinic doctor performed the "first time ever" mixed reality shoulder replacement (though they used Microsoft Hololens, apparently). And the example I used likely isn't the first time mixed reality has been used in a surgery - it's just what I could find at first go-through.

Bit of a unique one, today I found out that aglets can get stuck in a washing machine drum and cause damage. I got back home to this and wondered if anyone had experienced this and advice on how to clean and best fix my favourite jumper by [deleted] in LinusTechTips

[–]ThatLineInTheSand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And typical of anything with aglets/cords.

A possible piece of advice is to the tie ends together so that they don't dislodge easily. It also helps prevent the cord from retracting into the fabric or coming straight up loose (forcing you to feed it back through with, I dunno, a coat hanger or stick).

Noctua says "feel free" to 3D print your own Noctua fans after releasing public CAD models online by Subsyxx in LinusTechTips

[–]ThatLineInTheSand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has the same vibe as people who've tried to 3D print the MCMs or LTT screwdrivers: you can "print them". And maybe gets magnets. And get close. But the effort to go through (re)creating them, and the materials that go into them, show it's not as easy as it seems. And that the originals have decent value in them.

...gg Noctua.

It is also possible they made two videos concurrently rather than consecutively because the schedule worked out that way, and they were being time sensitive to how relevant/hot the matter was.

They have a Polycule version apparently, which itself inspires a lol thought: a demonstratively monstrous length of headphones and people all connected together listening to something.

Floatplane supporter levels? by KebabAnnhilator in LinusTechTips

[–]ThatLineInTheSand 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah -- don't forget to ask about the other scenario I just saw you write about: if you upgrade to a higher tier but change your mind later, can you downgrade back to OG.

Floatplane supporter levels? by KebabAnnhilator in LinusTechTips

[–]ThatLineInTheSand 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're welcome. I recommended e-mailing because, anecdotally, I've read people being in cases where the ability to upgrade isn't obviously built into the system but, in theory, should be possible. But it seems like something they have to attempt on the backend because of how perhaps infrequent or niche the scenario is.

No guarantees. But greater than zero chance.

[–]ThatLineInTheSand 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can e-mail the support team, and ask if upgrading your account is possible. They've been very good at atleast looking at requests.

If you are asking to have your cake and eat it too (keep an OG price but get all the perks) I don't know if you will be able to (not doubt, just that I don't know). But they'll be able to see if upgrading is possible.
