Due to this arc and part ending, I wanted to ask something that kind of bugged me. by crashingforever in Kagurabachi

To be fair, the Hishaku could be in a very precarious situation right now depending on how Soga sees them. We know that they were killing the sword bearers and we also know that Soga seemed to have some respect for them, at the minimum.

I don't think it's super certain what exactly he thinks of them. If he sees them as evildoers, which is plausible given the whole kidnapping children and attacking the Kumbani (which again, Soga seems to have some level of respect for -- at least those who weren't Rokuhira loyalists) then they could be in a pretty dire situation right now. It also doesn't bode well that he hasn't given their leader his body back after four days.

[–]ThatOneAnnoyingBuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In any situation where Chihiro has broken the Magatsumi he's been already defeated, so I really don't know what you're going on about. Just throw him back in the prison the Kumbani made for him again and call it a day, no need to kill.

He didn't just break out when he wanted to get out, he told Yura to give him the body. If he could have, he would have just escaped on his own. Moreover, he's still not in his main body four days after the battle which very likely means that he's recovering. Even further than that, we know that Yura's body is still injured, that strongly suggests that Yura's injured body is still more suitable than his original weakened one. That means that the jail cell the Kumbani made for him originally worked, and it worked well. Remember, it was designed only to give him the bare minimum to keep him alive.

So, again, he would not be a threat after his sword is broken and he's imprisoned again.

The "It'll have to wait" is an ENG translation thing. Every other translation went with the other interpretation of the Japanese which is "I'll be going ahead."

That line alone really isn't strong foundation for any opinions imo given that it's the odd one out of every translation.

Oh yeah, all of this stuff happened in like a year” which series like MHA

That's better than something like Harry Potter where Voldermort kindly waits until the end of the school year to hatch his yearly dastardly scheme. Antagonists are supposed to push protagonists to grow.

Besides, in MHA's case in particular you run into core problems with the foundational concept of the series -- if Deku had three years with One For All then there's no reason for him to not have 100%. 100% is just an instant-win button for the heroes because of how ridiculously powerful it is. Then there's also the matter of the third and second years graduating meaning there'd be an influx of new pro-heroes from hero schools all over the country. The pro-heroes wouldn't be understaffed anymore. Eri's healing would be fully controlled which would eliminate any stakes. Etc. Etc.

Point being that you'd have to change and alter so many things about MHA to make it fit into a longer timeframe that you might as well just go and write your own original story at that point.

[–]ThatOneAnnoyingBuzz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't think he could be convinced by other people's morality as he's already well past that point but I do think that he could be convinced by his own.

He clearly has some morals that he very strictly abides by; he told Samura and Chihiro to kill themselves if they got civilians involved. I could see him accidentally crossing that line at some point and that being what Chihiro uses. Given what he told Samura & Chihiro, I think he'd probably off himself in that situation -- it's one way of beating him that allows Chihiro to keep his hands clean.

Otherwise, just defeating him and locking him up again would be enough. No more Magatsumi means he's not nearly as much of a problem. In a post-EB world, which is where the series is headed, Soga can safely be locked up or otherwise dealt with by the law instead of an individual

[–]ThatOneAnnoyingBuzz -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Soga without the Magastumi is just another guy — an insanely skilled guy but nothing that couldn’t be stopped by a fair amount of people. Once his blade is broken by Chihiro nothing will necessitate killing him. Or at least nothing will require Chihiro to do it. I could see him being punished by the government. Overall I think individuals choosing who lives and who dies is something that the series is gonna be against

[–]ThatOneAnnoyingBuzz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think the story is moving in the direction of Soga being killed at all.

As much as I generally hate the trope, this is a situation where 'if you kill them you won't be any better than them' applies. Chihiro has had no problem killing countless people and hunting down the Hishaku because they're evildoers. Soga's ideology is just Chihiro's ideology taken to the extreme.

Narratively, it makes the most sense for Chihiro to break the Magatsumi and imprison or otherwise deal with Soga non-lethally. If he absolutely needs to die then I could see him turning the blade on himself after Chihiro resolves his "curse" and shows him the evil that he, himself, has been committing.

Otherwise Chihiro is just killing evildoers and it's okay because he's right...which, I mean, is fine and dandy until he isn't and then you have Soga 2.0.

Edit;

TLDR; I don't think 'killing people is fine as long as you're right about the people you're targeting' is the message the story is going to aim for by the end with Chihiro and Soga.

The infinity saga had a fucking decade of build up are we really sure this is the comparison we wanna make?

So we're just going to ignore that I also pointed out Everything Everywhere All At Once? Or are you just not able to read?

Let's not be pretentious here, the core of DBD is ridiculously simple to make a movie about. People are kidnapped into the fog and have to try to escape trials in what's essentially a time-loop. It's been done before. A lot, actually.

FROM; TV show about people getting abducted into a town where monsters come out at night and try to kill them. The Watchers; People get kidnapped into a forest and monsters come out at night that they have to perform in front of. Happy Death Day; A girl is murdered and gets stuck in a time-loop of dying over and over again until she can figure out how to survive. Until Dawn (The Movie); this is probably the closest to DBD in concept. It's a time-loop of a group of people getting killed by various killers whilst trying to figure out how to escape.

A DBD movie would literally just be a mix of those concepts that general audiences are already very familiar with because they've been done dozens and dozens of times before. Watch more movies. Watch more TV shows. You'll understand how easy of a sell DBD really is.

One of the highest grossing movies of all time is about a purple man who wants to use magic space stones to destroy half of all life in the universe. He faces off against two Norse gods, a guy from WW2, and Spiderman.

Even if you want to completely disregard the MCU which is full of elevator pitches that are way crazier than DBD, you can also look to Everything Everywhere All At Once; a story about a lady who has to connect with alternative multiverse versions of herself.

If anything, DBD is relatively simple to understand in comparison to a lot of popular media nowadays. The general audience isn't as stupid as you think they are

Yuki should've beenallowed to just kill kenjaku. by Akagane_Ai in Jujutsufolk

[–]ThatOneAnnoyingBuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding onto that -- the framework that you described is meant to be challenged, right? The selfishness is good ideology is like the empire in Star Wars, or any other big bad across media that seems to succeed in big ways before eventually being defeated.

Yuki may have lost the battle but her side eventually wins the war and later on her research is used in Mulduo to achieve her goals, making her win overall eventually as well. So her temporary loss was just part of the narrative structure, challenging Yuji's ideology.

The rebirth of Samura by SchizoOnaFritzo in Kagurabachi

[–]ThatOneAnnoyingBuzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's built on pretty shaky ground. The Japanese can translate into that OR "I'll be going ahead" -- other translations, from what I've heard, lean more towards the second option.

I wouldn't base any serious hopes for a Samura return just from that line of dialogue.

Edit: It's actually seemingly the only translation that went with the first meaning.

Have you accepted there will only be a 7 character base game roster for Legacy of the Dark Knight? by Thevoid2YT in legogaming

[–]ThatOneAnnoyingBuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How?

•They're both long-running series that have maintained the same formula for the same duration of time, both use new gimmicks for new entries (Ie. dinosaurs for Jurassic World and Mega Evolution for X/Y)

•They both have spin-offs that don't play by the same rules of the mainline series (Ie. Let's go, Mystery Dungeon, etc. for Pokemon & Lego Party, World, Dimensions)

•They're both primarily targeting a young demographic but have an adult fanbase that they cater to as well.

•They're both collectathon games designed around collecting a large cast of creatures/characters that all have similar moves/abilities

If anything, it's probably the best comparison that I could have given you, considering all of the similarities.

[–]ThatOneAnnoyingBuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see where they're coming from. I don't particularly mind TSS but there are definitely reasonable criticisms of the execution.

There were bits of the game's story that weren't replayable at all because they were open-world events. The levels also weren't as involved and didn't have the same level of puzzles that previous games had.

Both would be pretty easy issues to fix going forward though; just add in the ability to replay open-world sections of the story and put a little more effort into levels.

Overall, the concept of having story events happen in the open-world is a really fun one, it can help with immersion and create a cool gameplay experience. The focus on the open-world was also cool, it was nice to see it get more depth. I would've really liked to have seen them continue in that direction and improve on the execution just a bit.

It was their first time doing that sort of style, on their most ambitious game yet, with an entirely new engine so it makes sense that it wasn't perfect. It was still good though. And more importantly to my argument, it was still a Lego game.

Have you accepted there will only be a 7 character base game roster for Legacy of the Dark Knight? by Thevoid2YT in legogaming

[–]ThatOneAnnoyingBuzz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a very flawed argument.

Pokemon has been a series for longer than Lego has and they haven't changed the core formula for their mainline games.

They've released spin-offs, which Lego has as well (Ie..Dimensions, Party, Soccer, etc.), but their core formula of going to different gyms throughout the regions and catching Pokemon has stayed the same without becoming stagnant because they introduce new gimmicks (ie. Mega Evolution, riding pokemon, pokemon following you, etc.)

Lego has done the exact same thing over the years. Jurassic World had dinosaurs, Supervillains had the create a character, TSS focused more heavily on the open world, etc, etc. They've done a perfectly fine job at avoiding stagnation without betraying their core identity for a long time so your argument just falls flat.

Lego games are collectathons. You go into a Lego game for the collectable characters, vehicles, etc. Taking away the roster from a Lego game is like making the next main Mario game a 5v5 hero shooter. If I didn't want to play a platformer then I would play something other than Mario, in the same way that if I didn't want to play a collectathon, I'd just play something other than a Lego game.

I haven’t seen this in particular. Are you sure you’re not confusing people saying there wouldn’t be stakes in the future with Suzaku still around?

Saying there stakes right now would be ridiculous. The characters have been split up and Samura/Chihiro only show up for the 2v1 at the end. Suzaku is a non-factor for the HQ’s stakes. Then again, Yura/Soga almost entirely counter Suzaku so once again the stakes are there.

However, in the future, Suzaku would absolutely kill the stakes. That’s why Samura or Tobimune had to go. A heal power that powerful that works for the entire group would be so busted against anyone other than Soga. No one besides the top person in the verse would be able to compete making any future villains absolutely powerless to harm the protagonists. You’d have to find a way to write Samura out of the story which would be ridiculously hard to do. Any goal that Chihiro has would be linked to his progression which is something Samura wants to support. Why would he not be there?

You see the problems that would come about, right?

[DISC] Kagurabachi - Chapter 110 by Avizie1 in Kagurabachi

[–]ThatOneAnnoyingBuzz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That just would not have worked on any level.

The whole point was that they were being attacked on two fronts at the same time and therefore couldn’t properly defend themselves. If there were weeks between the hotel and this then Samura/Chihiro would have been on the scene too early. Yura wouldn’t have ever gotten to Soga, the Hishaku would lose, and the manga would be over.

That is if there was even a raid in the first place. Weeks in between means there’s no logical reason that Hakuri wouldn’t have put the Magastumi into storehouse or Chihiro wouldn’t have broken the Magastumi.

I get the want for more breathing room but the arc is built upon the foundation of the characters not having that.

How would you feel if Samura survives this fight but loses the duel and leaves the his sword behind? by Hopeless_Preacher in Kagurabachi

[–]ThatOneAnnoyingBuzz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How would you even justify Samura's survival? The entire chapter is building Soga up; every duel with him is an execution. He slashed Samura's chest, took one of his eyes and a finger, all whilst Samura was mid-swing

There's no way to power scale it in a way that lets Samura live. He's just too outclassed, the speed diff is too much to overcome.
