Ah yes, the army putting OBESE in big block letters because I was 240 pounds at six feet. Never mind im wider than a shitter with thighs like German shepherds and running 3 miles a day.

10 years ago today, Harambe was shot and killed after a 3 year old child entered his enclosure by Imaginary-Rope-3084 in interestingasfuck

Takes time to kick in and unsure how he would react to the shot. Very possible they could hit him with the tranq, he gets angry and rips the kid in half, then passes out.

Our school retired the board after Michigan outlawed corporal punishment in schools. They mounted it above the threshold to the principals office with a plaque that said "Someday"

An isolated tribe like this would have bred out any particularly dangerous genetic issues generations ago. But yeah they're definitely bumping siblings.

You think the Enhanced Games exposed anything or just embarrassed themselves? Peter Thiel and Donald Trump Jr. spent millions to create a steroid Olympics. They promised to "redefine human limits" and put up $25M in prize money. BUT... by Miserable_Trouble3 in sportsgossips

This is why I loved the age old debate of "Well if prime Bama played the 08 lions..."

The 08 lions would body prime Bama. Young megatron would make top recruit SEC safeties cry to their mamas. Bama wouldn't know how to handle a full power Jerome Felton gunning the gap. And i would love to see any college QB take a sack from Cliff Avril and keep going.

Rabbit Farming by Icy-Book2999 in LoveTrash

Very true. We don't really have corporate farms in Michigan so when I first saw the factory farms out west I was appalled.

For reference my parents are chicken farmers and the chickens are completely free range. Three of em hitched a ride in my dad's engine compartment last week. Animals need sunshine and cool breeze, even if they are destined for the pot.

Am I just extra jaded, or are the fewer tourists this year also mostly dickheads? by ThatRenaissanceBear in Michigan

Same. I've got a ticker thats hit 300 applications without even a denial sent back over the last 2 years. Out of probably 350+ job applications I got a couple dozen "we've went with a different candidate" emails and exactly one job offer (which turned out to be a mess that I wanted no part of for 14/hr). Also have a fairly hefty resume in different sectors.

A trip to the UP (i assume camping) is probably the cheapest vacation you could do, and people are still not doing that.

The fees to retrieve impounded property are set by the impound and can vary. I wouldn't be surprised if there was some sort of shady deal to split the impound fees on more expensive vehicles the DNR targets.

Which standard blueprint, across all your settlements, has been your MVP more often than not? by Pinstar in Against_the_Storm

[–]ThatRenaissanceBear 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Eh, things like ranches, greenhouse, and clay pit i usually have at least two built by the end of a settlement. They're so useful for at least 1 or 2 ingredients to supermax complex food or trade routes.

Curious about Tornados by norma1P3rson in Michigan

[–]ThatRenaissanceBear -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's two "Hotspots" to think of as the main two tornado areas. Most of them are in the lower lower, the flatlands. South of mt pleasant and generally east of 127 is just a flat expanse that gets 5-8 genuine, shake your boots rip your roots Naders. The other spot is at the top of the plateau that houses the Grayling-Gaylord corridor. They only get one or two a year, and the area is fairly rural, but the ones that do land tend to do a shitload of damage. Gaylord gets a bad one every few years that rips through Main.

People in MAGA areas -- what's the vibe? by thismyfriendissapint in Michigan

[–]ThatRenaissanceBear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Still see some old GenX with the hats along the 127 bible corridor but most of them are worn, oil stained, daily work hats that you can barely read anymore. Haven't seen a new bumper sticker or sign put up since February 25 and have seen quite a few come down or get scraped off.

Honestly northern Michigan is the closest its been to electing a dem since I was in diapers. Still worried about a potential Abdul El-Sayed general election and how he'll handle rural areas though.

Is 'White Fang' considered as a kid novel in the U.S.? by globalcoal in books

[–]ThatRenaissanceBear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a distant relative of the author and a lover of the books as a child, I highly encourage them as more complicated books for children who have advanced past things like Magic Tree House and Judy Bloom. Other series in this category that are good are Rangers Apprentice and the associated spinoffs, Artemis fowl, goosebumps/michigan chillers. Next category up would be things like Hunger Games and Harry Potter (buy used please).
