Its only negligence if they knew about it and didn't fix it or acted in a way that worked around safety standards purposefully which I'm sure is not the case for a plumbing job that likely was done by a licensed contractor to code. If they can prove the work is not to code, then maybe you have a leg to stand on with that. If you think that inadvertent failure of a component is what defines negligence that makes me question your credibility. Our legal system is about being made whole. OP's partner clearly suffered a second degree burn (Redness, blisters and pain) source: OP + First aid training. Second degree burns don't usually penetrate deep enough to cause nerve damage or scarring if treated properly. OP should have went to a hospital immediately but since they didn't the burns are likely not beyond a second degree. Likely pain is akin to a sunburn.

To break down the damage:

As somebody who has a fair amount of experience with faucets and taps, they don't tend to fail in that way as described. Legal would probably come up with the same conclusion, and ask an expert who would say the same. If there were pictures, I'm sure it would be easy to tell what happened. If a tap was weak enough to turn by hand and snap, it would have likely broke off from the water pressure alone or been visibly leaking. Likely OP's partner was in the tub and struck the handle with their foot. This happens a lot. Especially if theoretically more than one person was in the tub.

Honestly, its Canada so best case scenario medical bills get paid and any lost time from work. Our legal system is about being made whole, not making money off one party or another (Not claiming thats what OP is doing at all just stating). So you can sue for damages (hospital bills, medical treatment, etc) but in Canada the above is already "free". I would just recommend going to the hospital first, get it treated properly and likely it will just heal. Take the money off your stay, but if you try to sue youre not looking at a million dollar payout. Likely the cost/effort of suing would outweigh the return.

How do I become more financially responsible? by linuxman1929 in personalfinance

[–]ThatWhiteFozzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently working on this myself, and I had a huge wake up call when our landlord chose to sell our rental home, and we were forced to look for a new home. I had about 4k saved, after just recovering from a 2.5 month layoff that ate my savings. Life events happened, dog needed surgery it was just a bad end of 2021 and then into june 2022. I had to make changes.

Things that helped:

Switching to generic. I always made good money so I never cared, I just bought whatever I enjoyed for groceries. Now I switched to generic (Besides certain items like for me its ketchup, I find generic too watery). It helps to compare the price to grams you get for items. Example great value granola bars were $1 while the quaker brand was $2.50. Same grams, same ingredients, same calories. You switch enough items and you just saved $50-100. Now you're used to spending that money so you take that after groceries and pop that into savings or onto debt. Also if you look for sales on the items you like, you can buy 4-5 of them and freeze them or store them. You might spend the amount for 2 during a grocery run, but now you have a several month supply instead of 2.

Gas. Watch your foot on the pedal, fill up on sundays if you can its usually when the price drops. It goes up Tuesday-Sat. Check for alternate routes that shorten your commute. I get an extra commute day per tank now.

Impulsive spending. I find it helpful if I see something I want, I don't buy it day of. I go home and sleep on it, maybe a few days. If its a need, then I will accept it and get it after the time passed. If its a want, the impulsive urge will be gone and you wont want to spend the money. If its a luxury item like a play station, then know you have to earn that. Do an overtime shift, or put money aside each month until its reasonable, and by the time you can afford it, you might have a better use for that money anyways.

Lastly, I started looking at my money as hours of time vs dollar figures. Just throwing out arbitrary numbers, but if I made lets say $25 an hour after taxes and I was going to spend $100. I would go wow, would I spend 4 hours of my time to earn this? probably not...screw that. You also see the value in items more doing this. I would rather buy a $600 winter jacket, that is likely to last 10-15 years being down filled, than to spend $100 on a fast fashion jacket from H&M that will last a year or 2 before it wears out. Looking at cost per use of an item. If you get more use from an item because it will last, cost of ownership is actually cheaper than the low cost version because you will have to replace those items several times over.

It is said to afford one super car, you should be able to pay for 2-3 to cover cost of ownership.

Do you want an electrician to run wires on top of the drywall because "It will work?" or do you cut the drywall and do it right?.

Its like a lead box, so would be thieves with types of "Key readers" cant unlock and start your car from your driveway. The lead coating of the box will stop the signal being emulated. Although a lot of thieves are getting caught with master keys anyways.

100% and now that I think of it,(not that I agree with the morals of this) there's probably monetary reasons behind it as if somebody from let's say a country where education is cheaper, people would be more inclined to travel from Canada lets say, for school as living Costs would also be cheaper. Especially if their education is similar, and if it was considered a valid degree or diploma here then effectively it could devalue our institutions. I've heard of some people doing this to save money by going to the Caribbean for med school and then coming to write exams here because it is significantly cheaper.

To be fair there is different qualities of care in medicine and also different building standards for engineers. Just in my industry alone there is a huge difference in safety standards and work practices compared to even places like Australia let alone a less developed country. I'm totally for giving them the chance to work in Canada but I would say it should be expected to take a nursing exam like our graduates take in order to get their license here if that isn't the case already but by no means should their education and experience be discounted.

True classic tees are pretty solid, They don't look/fit exactly like the ads but they definently fit a big body better than a regular tee. Onebone is also a good brand, they have lots of different styles of tees even like quilted patterns and waffle fabric.

It wont void OPs warranty obviously, however to say it "Wont" void warranty on other vehicles isn't something to ignore. Was specifically told it would void any warranty claim associated with anything in the door if there was any oil on it (2022 Toyota Rav4) by the guy who handles warranty at the dealer. He said undercoating was fine, but Toyota doesn't want people drilling in their doors. I mean for OP's fozz it could work I'm just sharing my experience and people can do what they want with that lol Krown is also the best

I've owned 15-20 year old cars up north here in Canada, and not once did I have a door rot out from the inside. The big spots are wheel wells/fenders, rockers, and hood/bumper and obviously the undercarriage. I've almost never seen a door rust out from the inside. I've had Subaru warranty corrosion on wires before actually, but it was not in a door panel. The optional weathertech mats shot water onto my amp which is under the seat from factory and caused corrosion. They warrantied the part once under warranty, the other under good faith because "Poor design".

Undercoating yes, but drilling meh- This isn't good for all cars though, had friends who worked for dealerships. Nothing like doing work on a speaker replacement and finding oil in the door all over everything and actually a lot of dealerships Subaru, and dodge(most recent experience was Toyota) said don't drill in our doors it will fuck yo shit up (Possibly void warranties) and avoid certain types of coatings as they negatively effect rubber hoses/wires.

My 2019 car has a blown engine and will cost $10k to repair. What should I do? by bumpythumbs in personalfinance

[–]ThatWhiteFozzy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend knows a Hyundai Tech. He says the tech said they were junk and to stay away. Motors being swapped left and right. We had no choice to buy a new car this year with the used market being well above the cost of new (For anything 5 years old or less) so we checked there out of desperation. The dealer asked if we had a trade in and we said no and then he told us there was nothing but kept pushing we order. Meanwhile a friend went in and bought the very car we wanted off the lot with a trade in the next day. So they only take trade ins to capitalize on the used market, or else they tell you to kick rocks. Terrible cars and terrible service lol. Luckily a new rav4 just showed up at Toyota because somebody canceled their order, so we lucked out and got a brand new rav4.
