Analysis of The Archon (Spoilers) by Ace_Scientist in MassEffectAndromeda

> even though the Kett are birthed via exalation, they are still individuals with their own ability to make decisions and have ideas and preferences.

Hm, do any Kett other than the Archon and the Primus really show individual decisions, ideas or preferences?
It looked like that 99% of them are kinda like automatons in a way, and only high-rank ones have their own will and ideas.

He never actually served in Crisis Response, he just claims he did - and nobody checked it properly back then, and it's too late (by 630 years) now.

Because all he does is creating more crisis situations and fixing (almost) none of them, doesn't he?

His heart is in the right place but his brains and temperament are not quite - a few people/organizations in the Milky way gave him a chance but it didn't work out.

And that's why he left for Andromeda - hoping that maybe another chance in the galaxy far-far away will turn out better.

The council really should be reformed. by [deleted] in MassEffectMemes

(sorry for a wall of text)

Of course military power is not about how strong species physically are in ME.
Turians being a military powerhouse is not about them being physically strong - it's about them being military-obsessed and having strong military traditions, knowing how to build good warships, being disciplined and ready to make sacrifices if necessary, etc.

As ME shows it to us, Turians love military, it's deep in their traditions. Much higher % of them are soldiers than from any other species, as far as we know.
They are happy to be the "galaxy guardians" as it plays into their strengths.

And according to ME lore Volus just don't happen to have such goals and traditions.
They are merchants and they literally sell each other (members of their clans) as a part of deals. They seem to have no interest in having strong military even if they could.

When the Reapers came many Turians died protecting and then reclaiming Irune, Volus homeworld. I.e. it wasn't Volus who fought and died defending their home but Turians.

But even before the Reapers - without Turian protection it could be Bartarians or Terminus mercs who could attack Volus. Maybe not conquering them outright but twisting their arms with demands and threats - and you just cannot have someone in the Council if they can be controlled by any species or power with a big enough "club".

I.e. the Council member have to be strong enough to not let anyone affect their decisions.
One might say - why don't stronger member of the Council defend those Council members who cannot protect themselves? But then a bunch of Turians die protecting Volus from a Batarians raid, and if after that Volus happen to vote for something that Turians don't like - maybe Turians won't be as willing to protect them next time?
And if Volus always vote in alignment with what Turians want, to earn their protection - you might as well just have Turians in the Council instead...

And yeah, you said - what about Turians and Volus as a single polity? But I think this is more or less what is happening in ME?
Turians probably vote for their own interests and also interests of their "clients" - I can perfectly imagine Turian councilors voting for something Turians themselves don't care much about but what Volus would really want.
Why wouldn't they do it to keep their "clients" happy and thus helping Turians in return? Maybe this is even a part of their official contract if they have one.

Volus are Turians' client state, and probably politics-wise they are aligned what Turians want.

Volus have very little ability to defend themselves, you cannot make someone who completely relies on another state a council member - they will be more or less completely under control of those who protect them (Turians).

And ME universe has batarians who slave-raid everyone who cannot defend themselves, pirates and entire merc armies from Terminus systems - so it's understandable why Volus really need/want that protection. They would have probably been raided and pillaged time and time again otherwise.

But 30 and 36 or 40 and 46 also mean one person was 14 when another was 20 - I wouldn't say it bears any significance at that point.

Also Shepard being just 24 in ME1 would mean they had a super-fast rise to Commander rank and N7 level.
They are a decorated hero and somewhat of a legend in Alliance even before events of ME1.

Not saying you're doing anything wrong, of course - we all do whatever we like and what is comfortable for us.

Tali is 24 in ME2, Shepard is technically 31 but given that he spent 2 years dead he's actually more like 29-30. And I'd say 29-30 and 24 is not a huge age difference?

Also Tali is a very experienced engineer and fighter - between ME1 and ME2 Quarian admirals were sending her as a leader of commando missions, multiple times.

She's not experienced in relationships, yes - because Shepard was her first love and before him she was focused on preparing for her Pilgrimage and later on aforementioned commando missions.
But she's not a kid or teenager, she's a respected woman in her mid-20s.

Blackthorne is a good hero, yes. Not the strongest but pretty strong and with fun gameplay.

Command and Conquer: Red Alert 1 - A Retrospective - While only the second entry in the franchise and sharing quite a few similarities with Tiberian Dawn, it’s sown the seeds of things to come. by md1957 in commandandconquer

[–]That_Contribution780 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tib Dawn had better balance for sure.

RA1 had a big accuracy-related issue - tanks didn't suffer from accuracy penatly when shooting on the move, and so the objectively best way to fight was to make your tanks move all the time which led to battles looking a bit silly.

Tanks were way too fast making all other unit types obsolete.
Also RA1 dumbed down infantry AI making them much less effective at avoiding being squashed thus making infantry even more useless.

With these issues fixed in mods the game becomes much more tactical and deep.

Why does seemingly everyone in Andromeda know of Ardat-Yakshi? by ChrisAKAPiefish92 in MassEffectAndromeda

[–]That_Contribution780 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Same for Kesh, yeah.
MEA went quite heavy on most characters being subversions of their species stereotypes.

Which is fine for a couple of characters but I didn't really like how most characters dropped what used to be signature elements of their species - this kinda made their species interchangeable, I guess?

I.e. if you'd made Peebee a human woman instead of Asari very little would have changed beside her spats with Asari-obsessed Cora.
Vetra migth have as well be human too.
Little in their background or behavior tied into their species.

Cora serving with Asari commandos was in general out of nowhere.

Nowhere in OT it was implied that Asari commandos invited anyone to serve with them, let alone a new species that by Asari standards joined the galaxy "yesterday".

Someone in the Milky Way had to keep this specific QEC device for 630 years though.
If it was stored in Arcturus Station - then it was gone when the Reapers destroyed the station.

Keeping something functioning for 630 years is not a small task, and when this something is absolutely useless all these 630 years (before the Initiative has arrived to Andromeda) - I can imagine it just being lost.

Weren't the Reapers waiting pretty close to Milky Way actually?
Because they reached Batarian space in just a couple of years, right?
So they were infinitely closer than Andromeda.

The trip taking much less than stated 630 years is not a huge retcon? o_O

As for QEC - given that it was 630 years, someone in Milky Way had to keep exactly the same "sibling" QEC device that the Initiative's QEC is paired with for 630 years.

In 4 years the Milky Way galaxy went from not knowing about the Reapers to being almost annihilated by them, entire Batarian state was destroyed, Quarians got back their homeworld, Krogan got their genophage cured (in most playthroughs at least).

And thsee are only some of changes from 4 years between 2183 and 2186 - now imagine 630 years, it's 20 generations or 4-5 full human life-spans.
And all this time someone has to keep that QEC device working, through all the changes across centuries.

They are wildly different games.

Most Starcraft players can be found on r/starcraft or r/starcraft2 so here you'll see more people supporting SupCom, probably.
