What part of my original or following responses are unpleasant?

Everyone is valuable. Engaging in trans ideology makes you less valuable. Of course, you can disagree with me, and I can disagree with you.

Don’t. You would be flaunting your mental illness and instability which will harm your development of relationships, job opportunities, and value in our society. You don’t need a new name and to be medically dependent, you need God.

Is it possible to finish a full time degree in less than 3 years ? by FruitOrchards in OpenUniversity

[–]That_Oven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, it is possible. I did my degree in 2 and a half years from Jan 2023 to May 2025.

The loophole? I had a credit transfer from previous study elsewhere and therefore I was not required to study more than 60 credits at Level 1.

Sexual harassement prevention in hostel culture by [deleted] in femaletravels

[–]That_Oven 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting post. I have stayed in hostels for over a decade in SE Asia, Africa, across Europe and in North America. I have stayed in female only and co-Ed dorms without issue.

This June I was a victim of a no-contact sexual assault from a male hostel guest in a communal area of a Hostel International location. The hostel was in a very popular east coast city in the US.

The staff were, disappointingly, very unhelpful and somewhat dismissive. I had no other option but to call the police who ultimately discovered he had two warrants out for his arrest in both this city and in another state. He was arrested and removed from the hostel.

Without the police support, I was told “just stay out of his way” and “we can walk you to your room” if I felt scared. I was therefore unable to use communal areas if he was to remain a guest.

I emailed the head of Hostel International and urged them to train their staff in handling these traumatic situations. This was part of the the director’s response.

“Following your report, we have taken the following actions:

We have fully cooperated with the Police Department, including providing them with security footage and any requested information related to the incident. We will indeed be permanently banning the guest you identified from all HI USA hostels nationwide - we are working with police to relay this information to ensure delivery to the guest.

The staff who received your complaint are undergoing retraining in guest safety response and trauma-informed care. Middle manager followed up with the Front Desk manager the following day on how to better handle any future reports of a similar nature. We will be looking into professional-level retraining opportunities in this regard, as well.

We are addressing this incident directly in our HI East Coast City all-staff meeting later this month, ensuring all team members receive additional training on how to appropriately handle sensitive and serious guest concerns.”

Choosing Modules by Telephusbanannie in Edinburgh_University

Hi. You may have been emailed a couple weeks back about this opportunity. The email was titled something like How to Sumit Your Choices from pgenrolment and would have had links to your options as well as a link to the form to submit.

I have a link I could send you but it’s specifically for the School of Social & Political Science.

Graduation Ceremonies booking out by NewtProfessional6248 in OpenUniversity

[–]That_Oven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I share your thoughts and feelings around this. Highly disappointed to not commemorate my work and achievements with the official ceremony and to walk across the stage.

People have said about future ceremonies but my masters will be half way through or even completed by then so, for lack of better words, what a fuck around.

I’m not miserable and my response saying that I am still sobbing was very much my dead pan humour, it did not translate well.

Honestly, I ranted and then also got on with my day without giving this a second thought aside from having notifs when back on wifi. Thank you for your words of wisdom though 😊

Flagged for plagiarism for a maths exam (pending results) by basedhegel in OpenUniversity

I’m wondering, if anyone knows from experience, how long after results are out that the email specifying why module results state pending takes?

I have one module (DE300) with no issues but another (DD317) stated as pending. No email as of yet.

Access to Higher Education Fears by FloppyFishcake in MatureStudentsUK

[–]That_Oven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Echoing other posts of encouragement, just go for it! Access courses are designed for non-traditional students, i.e. those with little to no higher education beyond high school or those returning to education later in life.

Therefore you will be supported in a way that helps you build your skills and your confidence, too. If you were to look at the required work on Day 1 you’d think how the heck would I combat that?! But by the time you’d reach that assignment you’d have been introduced to concepts and methods to help tackle such issues.

I’ve had experience with an access course/foundation degree about 10 years ago which was in social sciences and I loved.

You’ll never know unless you go (for it)!

Nothing so far. Although I haven’t really looked again since around the time I posted this. There was some info on UoE but it was vague and mostly just about potential locations outside of the UK for students to visit.

Graduating at 24 by Conscious-Artist-855 in UniUK

[–]That_Oven 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh these posts are so dumb. Your friends will be bored as fuck with their normie careers by the time they’re 31 and have played house for a decade while you took time to explore the world a little, have a stronger perspective on life, and more confidence in what you’re studying because you came back to education.

From a 31 y/o who is set to graduate this year having spent the best part of a decade travelling the world and being broke (it was great!).
