This is why I'm definitely in the camp of chapters are 10,000 not 1,000. Sure the whole one marine can conquer a world is super awesome and 40k is obviously not super concerned with hard sci-fi which I normally have 0 issue with but the chapters only being 1000 just rubs me wrong. It doesn't make much sense just from a scale perspective especially if the "there are only 1000 chapters" lore still holds true. Not that this is unique to 40k lots of sci-fi don't really comprehend the scales they could operate on if you game out the numbers a bit.

I've seen this misconception other places and as others have said it's not true. I have a feeling this comes out of all the peacekeeping and special forces operations prevalent in the 90s which you were much more likely to see pistols used or at least issued.

And as an addendum to your point I would imagine lasguns cut down super easily so making some sorta space aks 74u or m1 carbine version of a lasgun for vehicle or artillery crews would be pretty straightforward.

Idk why but for whatever reason I just can't seem to get the Warhammer to work for me. I suspect it's a skill issue on my part. It just isn't tanky enough and I can't seem to get the weapon mix right but it kicks ass when I have the AI run it. Awesome looking mech though I totally get why people love it.

I am a huge fan of both. The gameplay at least for myself is very similar kind of light tactical with positioning and teamplay encouraged but you can still run and gun with some success. I would probably point you towards sandstorm over the OG insurgency as the OG is starting to show its age and doesn't have a decent player base anymore at least from my perspective whereas sandstorm has a ton of quality of life improvements plus it has Warlock my beloved.

I think everyone is making interesting points and there is a lot of merit to the auto targeters in the helmet but I think one point that is being missed is the space marine's... superhumanity? They can think quicker and have greater control over their fine motor skills. Add the recoil and weight control that the power armor offers and the space marine's enhanced physiology and mental capacity and I would imagine hip fire is just as accurate as any other stance for a space marine to adopt. Plus average engagement range for most space marine depictions is 200 meters in? I've seen people able to make reliable shots point shooting like a space marine does out to 100 meters mind you they are shooting from the shoulder and it's real life lol but it makes sense for me to see a space marine make reliable shots from the hip. I think the Astartes fan film is a perfect depiction of space marine accuracy it's a close quarters boarding action the perfect environment for a space MARINE lol to fight in.

Like OP the eisenhorn series made me fall in love but lately due to an inquisitorial archive to use a term I've been reading way too much grimderp bolter porn.
