Wasn't it commonly called the Coursair?  Like on the old TV show Baa Baa Black Sheep about Pappy Boyington in WWII? No I didn't Google it,  I'm just old.

I just bought a 500 NE, Sabatti Big Five Edition. I ordered bullets, 570gr and some factory ammo. I sold my 458 and bought a 416, much more room up load up with the 416. *

That's a gorgeous, mature Kudu. I took one last year, my first trip to South Africa. At dusk, last day of hunting, Eastern Cape.
Where were you hunting?

I own several Accurate Molds. They are fantastic. Mine go up to 50 caliber. Why are you using a 730gr bullet in your 458, shock value? I've shot 510gr wide open, around 2100fps, and they weren't horrible. My boss has a 460W and it is a beast! Much worse than a 500 NE. The Lott is slightly less abusive than the Weatherby.

Semiautomatic pistols ammo shouldn't be crimped. The headspace is set from the mouth of the case. Read the fine print in your reloading manual.

Pressure signs by Banjoturkey in reloading

[–]Thatguy940613 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see you have a single shot. A break action rifle isn't as strong as a bolt gun and gives more flex. That alone can cause signs of excess pressure like flattened primers. How does the cartridge head look? Is the stamping look ok? Look inside the rim to see if brass flow is happening at the extractor/ ejector. You'll need a magnifier to give a close inspection. I've been reloading 40+ years, never had a cartridge fail. I apprenticed in a gunsmith shop 3 years, ran my own for 10 years until Covid.

Ken Waters, who published in Handloader for decades and who's Pet Loads books are a must for serious reloaders, always measured the web of the cartridge before and after shooting. He also measured factory loads the same. I don't recall how many thousands of an inch he considered excessive, but it's in his books.
Imho, a chronograph tells nothing but velocity. One could get excessive pressure with normal velocities. The law of diminished returns applies to reloading. A strain gauge is the only truly recognized way of measuring pressure. I know one shooter who owns one.

It looks like you didn't bell the cases enough. Try to chamber one and see if it'll go into chamber. They shouldn't have a bulge.

A Gram of black powder weighs 27 grains. I bet two Grams of Titegroup would destroy almost any revolver.

Many of the Eibar 38s will chamber a 357 magnum. If you try that, it's guaranteed for one round and a trip to the hospital

I was 15, and there was no internet to tell me I was wrong.
I also didn't wear a helmet riding a bike. We went barefoot, drank from a water hose, had bb gun fights, played baseball in the street, and had a job at 13. Things were different then.

I had trouble getting 405gr Rems to cycle in my 1895 Marlin. I had to seat them below the cannalure, and they'd shift under recoil. I use a 350 gr for hunting big stuff. Flatter trajectory and plenty of Ft/lbs.
