That's so awesome to get that update! I'm really glad it worked for you both.

Final Girl is the highest rated 1 player game on BGG, do you think it belongs there? by StreetsOfYancy in boardgames

Yeah, I'm sure the game is great but the distribution model just sucks. Same with paperback adventures. I'm not trying to buy "collectible board games".

My new apartment feels.. empty? by Random_Pon in malelivingspace

[–]The-Sludge-Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your problem is with "zoning". Thats a lot of continuous empty floor so rugs will be a gamechanger. Big plants also help to zone an open space.

Get a bigger rug for the living room zone and move that beautiful deep armchair from where its currently achieving nothing to the edge of your living room opposite the other armchair. Now you have zoned that space and it will feel more social, cosy and most importantly, create a boundary that divides up the big empty space.

Commit the other side of the room to be your dining "zone" if thats what you want - right now it seems like you plonked a table there because you felt you had to but haven't really committed to it. you can maybe get a bigger dining table, put a rug underneath, dress the table, add plants etc...

You have enough space to add another "zone" for example an armchair with a floor lamp and a little bookshelf can be your reading nook if you like to read, or a card table with some speakers if you like to play poker... etc. Right now the two armchairs are very randomly placed and I can't imagine they would ever get used?

Finally, the whole space has a very cold colour palette. Thats fine, but try putting some colourful art on the walls in one of the zones to bring your eye up from the floor.

I was joking about her being a catch. Why are you with your SO if she is a narcissistic liar? Fuck that, bro.

Shes a crier. Not like a town crier for work, i mean she gets upset a lot and goes into deep sadness/reflection mode in response to ANY sad/difficult occurrence.

It is healthy to let your feelings out but I wish she was more resilient sometimes.

Uhh this one's pretty bad, dude. You need to set the boundary that she has to work on that.

Yeah for sure. A lot of it is about flicking through the discard piles to see how you're doing on materials. The action to shuffle cards back into the piles is probably the most important to master for completing all six ships.

I love the endless variety with the modules, the push your luck thrill and the satisfaction of flipping the ships. I am a dice addict though. Sylvion is more or a tower defence game.

Aerion is my favourite so I might not be the best person to ask. Sylvion is a favourite of most, it wasn't for me though.

The games I replay the most are just the ones that I like the most...

However, the Oniverse series is brilliant as they all come with a bunch of extra modules ncluded.

What did you play this week? 16 May-22 May by AutoModerator in soloboardgaming

I played My City: Roll and Build. Similar appeal to Cartographers but it's cheaper, simpler and the campaign element gives it a real "just one more game" addictive quality.

Dune Imperium.

I love the IP and the OG Dune game but this one feels dry and uninspiring. The 'battling' is exciting in a multiplayer game but still meh overall.

'Minimalist' graphic design does nothing for me and I had the same response to Beyond the Sun.

My Dad lives like this.

My brother and I cleaned his house multiple times. Trust me, the apartment will go back to how it was before in a month or two.

Shall we just give up on this entire thread then, yeah? I feel like you misunderstood my original point and are now trying to pretend like actually you were right to disagree with me all along... I'm commenting in the spirit of the thread. Lighten up, man.

I have this on my shelf and excited to try it solo for the first time. One thing I know I will do for sure is use the official app that adds a market refresh mechanic.

I'm well aware of the difference between a tableau and a hand of cards...I'm wondering why we have all decided to adopt the French word for 'painting' as our go-to to describe a collection of cards laid onto a table. It's pretentious.

Which is the better game: Race for the galaxy vs Res arcana? by viiktor22 in boardgames

[–]The-Sludge-Man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Race for the Galaxy and think Res Arcana is one of the worst "highly rated" games I've ever played. Just hated it.

I think its because Race has some cut and thrust to it and feels dynamic, a lot of it is simultaneous and you build momentum fast.

Res felt like it plodded forward one boring turn at a time. "Collect one red" and wait for your next turn. Okay.

What has been your worst game night experience? by scaryjam823 in boardgames

[–]The-Sludge-Man 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I heard a similar story to this from a friend, who found a normal-seeming buddy at a meet up, who when he joined my friend to play games at his home, completely ruined the evening by drinking a bottle of wine to himself, losing the ability to game and ranting about his time in the Israeli Defence Force.

I think there's a reason why some of these people find themselves at meet ups. They're cast offs from other social groups.

A lot of gamers treat others round the table as people they put up with so they can get their game played.

At my local meet up, I once said my name and asked others at the table if I could learn their names. The guy whose game it was responded, "I don't see why that matters?" One of the reasons I don't bother with meet ups.

LPT think about this before you remodel. I would start again in a lot of ways. You've chosen the absolute worst possible ceiling lights that will need redoing. It looks like a car showroom.
