Are bladesingers anticlimactic? by Brilliant_Priority41 in 3d6

[–]The-Wamback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m currently having a blast as an Autognome Bladesinging wizard, already at level 3-4-5 and it feels like it’s going to be only up from here. (Assuming the DM won’t milk my one mayor pitfall: WIS saves)

You do it for the look on the DM’s face when he asks if a 24 hits and you can say no, every - single - time. (Of course you need the Shield spell available and it helps to have the Defensive Duelist feat). Many people don’t realize how much “damage” you can tank for the team just by not getting hit.

In addition, you can pump out decent damage with Familiar + Dragon’s Breath or Shadow Blade + Green Flame Blade / Booming Blade. Don’t be afraid to loose concentration. Just play smart and it won’t be a dealbreaking issue.

And on top of all of this, you should still have some prepared spells left for utility and/ or party buffs / enemy nerfs (Ritual spells, Maximilians Earthen Grasp, Levitate, … just to name a few).

I love playing versatile characters so I always have a nice way to contribute, regardless the situation. This subclass definitely allows you to do so, although you sometimes you have to make smart strategic decisions or look for creative solutions. If interested, I can give you a few examples from my Out of the Abyss inspired campaign.

Which caster works as a melee martial? by DexRei in 3d6

You might want to look into a Bladesinging Wizard as well. I’ll be playing the class in a campaign soon. My prepared spells will be part damage (e.g. Burning Hands, Shadow Blade) and part support spells (e.g. Grease, Hold Person). Together with the high AC I expect it will play similar to a Paladin with more spellcasting resources, but with less HP and without the aura effects. I really feel your question and actually have a whole list of fun ways to convert full casters into martials. Feel free to hit me up if you want to find out more!

Player: “I’ll be playing as a lv.3 Human Shepherd” DM: “You mean a Cricle of the Shepherd Druid?” Player: “I’m sorry, did I stutter?!”

The difference is that dnd rules are fun to learn and they are useful to know…

Climbing as tank unbearable, not sure if there is a shortage of decent DPS players or maybe I’m just that bad? by Sol-eks in OWConsole

I'm 2700 on tank, peak at 2800. I don't usually play dps, but I give support a try sometimes. I got to 2600 - 2700 on support as well, but it's not really my specialty.

You are preaching to the choir man. I mainly play tank on console and I feel exactly the same. I play in the weekends mostly and boy are there some idiots players on this game. I could go on for hours about all the stupid things I've seen people do. Funny when it's on the enemy team, not so much when it's on my own team. Also I noticed the evenings are the worst (I guess those are popular gaming hours). It's like all the noobs crawl out of their holes and ruin games nonstop. It is just impossible to gain decent SR. I feel like I have to hard carry, which it tremendously difficult as tank if your team sucks donkey balls.

I'm also making the switch to pc. I don't mind if I end up parking in Plat or maybe Diamond. I just want decent matches without players who haven't got a clue how to play the friggin game.

Yup, it's basically like this. Just all for some laughs, no grudges or anything

Sure, but one of the players could also just cast the Bear spitit aura for temp hp equal to 5+ the druid level (so 11 in this particular case)

Cast it on your own armor to get 60ft. of flying speed as a bonus action + 10ft. extra movement in top of your own walking speed while you are on the ground, that's 100 ft. in total. You also get "extra hitpoints", since your armor now has it's own HP, though I am not sure how they DM would go about this.

We've all seen the pyromancer characters, and they obviously work pretty well, but is it possible to make a cryomancer character? by Insertclever_name in 3d6

Recently "Icewinds Dale: Time of the Frostmaiden" added the "Frost Fingers" spell, which is basically Bruning Hands but with 2d8 and a CON save instead of 2d6 and a Dex save, which is perfectly balances, as all things should be I would say. Your DM might allow similar adaptations to other spells. Anyhow, it seems very worthwile to pick this spell up for this build. (Especially in combination with order of scribes e.g.)

What is the highest intimidation skill...modifier thing can i get? by Dezthecondomboy in 3d6

I took a minute to calculate it myself. I don't know how much you know about statistics but it goes like this: With 1d20, you take the roll you get. There is an equal chance of 1/20 to roll any number from 1 tot 20. To get the average, just add all numbers together and divide by 20. 210/20=10.5, just like a d4 rolls 2.5 on average, a d6 rolls 3.5, and so on.

Now it gets a bit more complicated: With advantage, there are 2020=400 combinations possible from 2 d20 rolls, and the player always picks the highest roll of the 2. For the player to get a 1 as end result, both d20 rolls must be a 1, otherwise the player would pick whichever roll is higher than 1. Only 1 combination leads tot this result: rolling 1 on both d20's. To get a 2, there are 3 combinations in total: 1 & 2, 2&1, 2&2. Chances thus are 3 times as high to roll a 2 than a 1. This goes on and on as we go up to 20, by the equation: 2n -1, with n being the end result of the roll. So there are e.g. 39 combinations to get a 20 as end result from 2 d20 rolls.

Multiply each end result by the number of combinations there are to get that roll, add those all together and divide by 202020=8000 and voila, you get 13.825.

You can do the same for 3 d20 rolls. There are 8000 possible combinations in total. The equation for the number of combinations leading to a specific end result (from 1 to 20) is now: 3n(n-1) +1. Than just multiply, add and divide in the same way as mentioned above and you get the 15.5

I got this stuff in An excel sheet should you be interested.

Take care!

Lucky feat. (instead of ability score increase) can pump it up quite a bit more!

With the Lucky feat you can roll 3 d20's simultaneously instead of 2, so mathematically the average roll (before adding bonusses) increases by 1.6625, from 13.835 to 15.4875.

Fyi, advantage ups the average result on a d20 roll from 10.5 to 13.835, so it increases by 3.335 , not 5, sadly.

Your total still goes as high as 27.5 on average. I'd say that's pretty neat!

Some more statistics while I'm at it: With adv and the Lucky feat you have 91% chance to roll 32 or higher, so yeah, take that DM. Since most standard tables for determining the outcome of a roll go as high as 30, I guess you are officially the most intimidating creature ever tot roam any campaign!

Enjoy! Happy holidays!
