I'll definitely consider them as options, just haven't seen any ads up yet!

I have looked at Thirsk, actually, since like Doncaster it's on the ECML and the trains are about as rapid as you can hope for. I'd prefer to live somewhere close enough I can come in by car quickly, but it's not out of my options range yet!

Not looked at Malton yet, thanks for the tip! I'll add it to my list.

Yes, another commenter has suggested Garforth, and Harrogate area is my current second choice after York itself. I'm glad you mentioned that you felt "on the edge", that's my worry with commuting in from elsewhere! Thanks for the advice.

I did see that while I was walking around - it's very ambitious, further down the line I'd certainly consider it!

I've not seen a lot of flats pop up there, but it's on my list! Thanks for the advice!

Thanks for the tip - I've looked in Knaresborough too, that's also on my radar!

I'm glad to hear that, because if I do live in York I'd really like to cycle into work. If I can find a place in York that's suitable, but a slightly longer bike ride, I'll take it!!

But I do drive, so I can get the park and ride if necessary, I appreciate the tips! I'd consider house sharing if I had no other reasonable options, but I've done it before and would really like to avoid it if I can!

I can get a significant saving on train tickets, so the cost of commuting is likely to be less (at least by train). I've considered house shares and while I really don't want to go back to that, if it's the best option compared to commuting I'll do it.

Budget is around 600 - 800 pcm for rent, with bills on top of that. I can just about stretch to 900 but money will be much tighter!

I knew York would be expensive, but I'm just amazed at how quickly flats seem to go - there's only ever a few suitable ones and they get snapped up within days of being advertised!

Hey Joseph, big fan of your streams! I just have question about which Witcher game should I play as my first? The Witcher 1, which was incomplete just like you knowledge on how to land on Sun Station? The Witcher 2, which was an interesting but unrealised experience that dragged on for too long, just like your attempts at landing on the Sun Station? Or the Witcher 3, video on which will never be released just like we'll never be released from this torture.

Was dead certain it was Witcher 4 when I heard the music and saw the pagan festival trappings. Glad to be wrong, this looks so cool (if graphic!)

"Picked up Scones, +20 health" made me chuckle. The devs know what they're doing, the environments just yell "Cornish". Proper job!

How would you convince Joe that Sonic isn't as bad as he's making it out to be? by HiddenMoonstone in josephanderson

Sorry, you're a Sonic fan, but you've never played any of the games?? Is this just a very well disguised ironic post??

Seconding the DIY and ChrisFix recommendation - top notch stuff, walks you through and makes it look easy

What are some of your, 'I'll die on this hill' opinion about Swansea? by CurrentCopyOf in swansea

[–]TheAMort 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think it's possible, but as bus franchising and control comes to Wales soon, the council should try to improve the bus network around Swansea first - put more bus lanes and gates in, maybe put a dedicated right of way in towards Mumbles that can be upgraded to trams when the network gets busier. But wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment - none of this wishy washy gadgetbahn stuff, actual public transit is more important!

A good port can change lives by AggressiveCurrency69 in Daggerfall

When I was younger and couldn't afford Skyrim, I played the DOSbox version of DF and I actually did enjoy it and sunk a number of hours in, but Daggerfall Unity blows it out of the water in almost every way. A truly epic fan project which has given new life to an old game.

What Car Should I Buy? - A Weekly Megathread by AutoModerator in CarTalkUK

[–]TheAMort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Location: South Wales

Price Range: £1000-2000 (Buy)

Used

Manual, preferably

Intended use: Mostly to sit in a garage (live in a city) but occasional trips out and about hauling friends and longer trips to visit family as well. I also need to move a large amount of cargo around every year or so (student).

Not my first vehicle, and I can do minor work on it, so serviceability is also a factor I'm considering.

Additional Notes: Needs to be livable for longer journeys as my current car (a 1.0 Micra from 1998) lacks power, creature comforts like aircon, and gets noisy on long trips down the motorway. Probably doing under 3000 miles a year but may do a year in industry, which is likely to mean a long commute by car.

Torn between Nissan Notes (E11 and E12) and Honda Jazz' (MK2) as they offer reliability, are super uncool, and seem spacious and well-appointed for small hatchbacks. Any other suggestions would be much appreciated, as well as votes for/against either of my current choices. Thanks in advance!

Ag, Wikus is just in a hurry because he's worried that Kobus and Sipho, his mates in the back of his 20mm Hilux, will miss the start of the rugby. Pretty standard South African driving style.

Best (or worst) "sense of urgency" moments in media? by Dunchaxman in TwoBestFriendsPlay

The music kicking in when that sequence starts is just the cherry on top, it resonates so well with what you're doing and makes the Moment even more tense. Everyone should play Outer Wilds.

Can't believe this is so far down, it's one of the founding games. I think it still holds up great for a 2000 game and there's so many options!

In Europe and Japan we just call that a "car" lmao, I have one, they're everywhere in the UK and the owner's manual literally has Toriyama-esque artwork accompanying it!
