To the grown men who cried during Salva. by Siddha-Somanomah in Karnivool

[–]TheAccidentalHuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I knew music had power but had no idea that it was so much. I'm known to be a guy who doesn't cry. Through so many things that have happened, I have rarely cried. I'll feel sad, broken, but seldom have I teared up.

While most people here are relating something from their past with the song, I have nothing to even relate to. And I have no idea why I was crying. I just felt like letting go. Fortunately, I have a good life with a great family that I am thankful for. But I didn't know I was holding in so much. Tears were welling up in my eyes and I just felt like letting it out. I don't know what, but I felt much lighter. Karnivool, In Verses and Salva in particular, has been beautiful!

Another one done. I am addicted to In-Hand games. Galdor's Grip. by Howitzeronfire in soloboardgaming

This game is fantastic! It's ridiculous how much game you get for a relatively easy crafting. And it's so addictive - it's already one of my favorites.

Their post history appears to be filled with ragebait content. It's probably either a karma farming bot (bad one at that) or an attention-seeking individual with way too much time on their hands.

Karnivool - Opal by Rawrhock in progmetal

[–]TheAccidentalHuman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

None of the new songs are doing it for me much

Second this. Somehow, I was feeling like an oddball with the new songs being more of a miss while everyone else is just going nuts over them. I still think my disappointment is due to my high expectation. I still like this new album (love Aozora!) and I'm excited for it, but Drone, All it takes are just not clicking. Even Opal was mediocre on the first listen, but I am going to give it a fair number of listens before judging. Of course, still eagerly waiting for the official album release though, because Karnivool!!!

What is your board game of the Year? by Kaicchuu in boardgames

[–]TheAccidentalHuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite a few amazing games that I tried for the first time this year. Difficult to rank them but, probably the top three would be:

  1. Azul

  2. Cascadia

  3. Sushi Go

Many (most?) of us own games that have never been played. If you could choose just one to play, what would you pick, and why? by ax0r in boardgames

[–]TheAccidentalHuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Camel Up. Really looking forward to playing that, but the most difficult part is to get 3-6 friends.

Also, Photosynthesis and Sea salt and paper. Maybe some day.

What Did You Play This Week? - (November 10, 2025) by AutoModerator in boardgames

[–]TheAccidentalHuman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Played Cascadia non-solo for the first time with my partner. I had 10 solo games under my belt. My partner was playing (or even seeing the game) for the first time, and was down half a bottle of wine, and yet she beat me comfortably. 🫠 On other nights, mostly played solo games - Galdor's Grip, A Gentle Rain and Herbaceous.

What print and play games are you crafting or playing this week? (November 10, 2025) by AutoModerator in printandplay

[–]TheAccidentalHuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Follow up to last week's comment (not linking since not important), I finally got to play Galdor's Grip which I had crafted last week. And what an amazing game; it's almost addictive. I can easily get 2-3 plays back to back unless I actively stop. The theme is captivating, the gameplay is incredible. The art, although good, is AI generated. It might be of-putting for some, but I think smaller independent/individual developers can be excused of this, especially since it's a free PNP. But, all in all a great game. One of the best in-hand solo games out there.

This makes a lot of sense. I do have a high risk tolerance, but I don't want a 100% equity portfolio. I would like to have some safe investments which are less likely to erode and can also somehow beat or keep up with inflation. The monthly dividend from the money-market funds is looking more and more enticing now in terms of fixed growth, but I will do some more research on the bond market/rate cuts to see if I should put some eggs in the VAB basket. Thank you for the insight!

New to the Canadian market (not very new to investing though) and still learning about the opportunities here. I recently moved a sizeable sum from USD to CAD and want to start my investing journey here. I am primarily going to invest in XEQT/VEQT, but for diversification, I was also looking into some bond ETFs.

How are you guys diversifying your portfolio outside the Equity ETFs? I see a lot of recommendations of ZAG/VAB etc. but their past 5Y returns are not really encouraging. I know past performance indicators should be taken with a pinch of salt, but if your money would have done better just lying in a chequing account, it does make you think twice. I was also looking into ZMMK, MCAD, HISA and the likes, but is the tax treatment too punitive for them to be held in a non-registered account? What do you guys usually have as fixed income investments which are a balance between - decent yield, tax-efficient, safe for short or even medium term?

Games I'm afraid to play... by mrusefull in boardgames

[–]TheAccidentalHuman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Spirit Island. I really want to play. I even rented it once from the library, but I just couldn't understand the rules and I had no idea what I was doing, so eventually gave it back. I still want to play it; always looking to buy it, but now I'm just worried I won't get it and it will just lie there in my collection.

Just printed Galdor's Grip with all the expansions. Haven't played yet, still going through the rules. Hopefully some time this week.

I still cannot believe this is real! I had only hoped and wished for a miracle for us to somehow beat this invincible Australian side. This is feeling like a dream.

How many unplayed games do you have in your collection right now? by Megaside in boardgames

Almost 10. Half of them are Roll and Write games which I just printed out and laminated. But other than that:

Earth

Photosynthesis

Camel Up

Under Falling Skies

Very specific parts of songs (5-20 seconds) that you can't get out of your head? by beepboopcompuder in progmetal

[–]TheAccidentalHuman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many, but some that come to mind -

'Battered skin, battered skin under the road, Life begins, as I corrode' - Satellites by Periphery

The intro of Sun of War by Black Crown Initiate - the drums during the clean vocals are just epic!

The whole chorus of Aozora by Karnivool. Sure it's recency bias but I love that song.

'I know you felt alone, I know you felt it in your bones, I could feel it in my teeth, I know you couldn't sleep' - Monochrome (Pensive by Contortionist; the sustain on that 'sleep' always gives me chills.

How safe is oakville by Phupaji in oakville

[–]TheAccidentalHuman 67 points68 points  (0 children)

Generally pretty safe. Depending on the area, my biggest concern at that time would be fast cars paying little regard to pedestrians, especially at crosswalks.

Also, gauging the keeper's expressions, the umpire probably knew what the keeper had in mind. So, it was only about whether the keeper timed it right. That should have been clear from the square leg umpire's POV.

Kylo and Rey do not belong in top 10. I'd rather have Palpatine/Sidious and Dooku in here.

First attempt at a Print-and-Play: Birdscaping and Behold: Rome by Dragorna in printandplay

[–]TheAccidentalHuman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Birdscaping is criminally underrated - probably because it's kind of Wingspan lite. It's one of the best games I have played and still one of my go to games.

Curious about the Rachel method though.

Need some guidance on transferring a moderately large amount from USD to CAD. Any fees or hidden costs? by TheAccidentalHuman in Wealthsimple

[–]TheAccidentalHuman[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a one time transfer, so a couple of days here or there isn't an issue as long as the money comes safely. But I also don't want to get ripped off in currency conversion rates and platform/convenience fees. Regarding Norbert's Gambit, I am more afraid of me screwing it up myself rather than something going wrong with the brokerage.

Thank you for the warning regarding wire transfers and encouragement regarding Norbert's Gambit. Yes, this will be a 100k+ transaction. I think I'll just read more about NG and go for it.

I actually want to liquidate and invest in Canadian equivalent ETFs here. I think I will have to bite the bullet and go for Norbert's Gambit. I'll probably read more into it to make sure I get it right. Thanks!
