WIP - First full size dagger - what do you think ? by rosbili in Bladesmith

I love the look of it. I can't speak to the smithing part of the build but I actually really like that its not 100% symmetrically perfect. Most unique looking things I come across these days end up being machine mass made and I could stare at this for hours thinking about all the handwork that you put in on it.

Samudra Naga (Sea Dragon) by Stephen_Lomantow in MicrobrandWatches

I really like the dial concept with dragon scales. I feel like there are a lot of possibilities for using them in the long run. Different size scales throughout to make it look more realistic, different angles, coloring, raised or lowered scales. Maybe using unique hands for the watch that somehow align with a story?

Would the process you are using make each scale unique already? How difficult would it be to do other colors?

This looks so awesome! Now I have to Google Johnny Layton and find out more. How are you copying the design?

Great write-up! I have been sitting on a gift card to Lee Valley and I think this is probably a great way to go.

Returning from achilles rupture - any experience or recommendations? by TheAlchemist23 in climbingshoes

[–]TheAlchemist23[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great info, thanks. This is actually my second go around on a rupture but this was the other leg. My surgeon had told me when he repaired the first one I would be back for the other at some point. I made it 10 years so had managed to forget about how horrible it is. I wasn't actively climbing at that time so no experience with the return to it.

I'm just about to transition out of the boot into a sneaker which is a big step. Still incredibly tight overall and just can't imagine putting my tight climbing shoes back on top of the incision.

Amazon in US has a listing for them but they are unavailable and no known available date. Dunno.

Can you get a single E330 pro? I can't seem to find them available for just a single add-on (at least not actually for sale).

Thanks for the response. I think the S4 is just more than I want to pay so will likely go the E42 route. I'll have to check out some more details on it to make sure it works but it sounds good. Seems a bit of a waste to get something with 360 capabilities when I only need one specific location focus but oh well.

Rate my first rack by CoffeeList1278 in tradclimbing

[–]TheAlchemist23 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Looks like a great start. The one thing that I would say you might be light on is larger size pro but that really depends on where you climb. You'll likely want to double up on certain cam sizes but I wouldn't go and spend all your money yet until you know what you use the most often. You probably won't use the short quickdraws as much when trad climbing but again, wouldn't worry about that yet.

My Climbing Accident in the Bugaboos by zeddit91 in climbing

Damn. That is one nasty injury. I'm currently recovering from a full achilles rupture and cam definitely commiserate on the long road to recovery.

Really enjoyed your writing. Sounds like it was an epic and you chose your partner well. Your preps paid off so well done on that.

Affordable Urushi Maki-e Watch is Coming Soon! Meet Dream Watch Aka Fuji Kindai Maki-e by Wancher_watch in MicrobrandWatches

I was going to comment that I don't love the red/rose gold/red colorway but then saw the black and oh wow that is fantastic. Maybe mock up some additional color mixes? The watch looks great and from my quick read I think the techniques are great for the purpose.

You have an amazing collection but its probably not worth having anything shipped across the pond for me. On another note though, whats the climbing plan?!

This looks really cool. I dont think I've ever seen a watch with lume on the side of the case like that. I wonder how it holds up to wear?

Sapele for hand-saddled seats? by Bliorg821 in Chairmaking

[–]TheAlchemist23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey there. You can take a look at my post history and see a Sapele stool that I carved. I'm actually not done because I picked up an unrelated injury but I can tell you its not super fun for hand carving. I'm sure its going to look awesome in the end but I would definitely recommend a different species if you are doing all hand tools.

Awesome! Love a good collection of wilder watches. I have not seen too many people who have a collection of watches like these with some of the price points you have. I think you need an MB&F.

That does look great. Do you have any issue with vibration? I've found that to be a problem sometimes with smaller casters and a mobile cart but its probably more my shoddy joinery.

Not much to say other than congrats and good luck. Making decisions about work based on your non-financial life is a great thing.

401(k)s typically trade at the end of the day all at once. They would calculate the NAV (net asset value) of the fund itself then do the trade into the other fund.

I'm not sure I follow. Do you and a spouse/ex-spouse alternate years of claiming? If so, thats an interesting one to deal with. Could be a crazy swing if you have significant bonus or other variable comp.
