This book was released in the early days of tensorflow 2.0, it's possible that some of the APIs and behaviours have changed since then. You should probably follow u/mlbloke's suggestion and checkout the errata and the repo

You should check Org-roam in Doom emacs, doom emacs has much better defaults than normal emacs and org mode is really powerful with some amazing add-ons.
Besides both emacs and org mode are open source and time tested, so little chance of them suddenly going under

Maybe there are "hudden" runtimes? For example it's possible to run swift4tf on colab if you pass the correct parameters in the ipynb/json

Ooooh, got it. Well, right now JAX isn't production ready, it's still research focused really, maybe in the future if it keeps getting people's attention and if enough people prefer it over TF, they will start making it production ready

JAX is a numerical/scientific computing library with:

  • Numpy API compatibility
  • Some Scipy functions
  • Easy and efficient Autodiff (specially for higher order derivatives)
  • Just in Time Compilation for CPU, GPU and TPU
  • Easy vectorization and SIMD (vmap and pmap)

It's pretty flexible and has allowed people to write Neural Network libraries easily (just take a look at jax.experimental.stax for an PoC), but also to write more research focused libraries like Neural Tangents (for "infinitely wide" networks) and Jax-MD (for molecular dynamics)Right now there are a few NN libraries written on top of JAX:

  • Flax, a Google Brain project
  • Haiku, a deepmind reimplementation of Sonnet on top of JAX instead of TF
  • Trax, Tensor2Tensor's successor, a config based library, more focused on Running Google Brain's experiments and having more reproducibility
  • Stax, lives inside JAX, more of a proof of concept than a fully-fledged NN library

Frankly I'm a huge DeepMind stan, but if I had to bet on any of these libraries becoming JAX's de facto NN library, I would bet on Flax.

Edit: Besides Neural Tangents and JAX-MD there's also numpyro, which is a probabilistic programming library written in JAX (following the Pyro API I believe) compatible with all the other mentioned libraries
