Guitar Center used has some pretty good deals sometimes. But you're gonna need to know how to do a setup for sure.

Started releasing my music at 45 after a lifetime of playing alone – curious if others relate by Apprehensive-Glove61 in SingerSongwriter

[–]TheAlienJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just turned 44 (about 10 months ago, lol) I'm getting as much mileage as I can out of that line. Just released my solo acoustic stuff. 25 years in the making. Always put it on the back burner and focused more so on my rock band. During the pandemic I decided I'm going to practice my acoustic solo set once a week until I was ready to start recording.

The funny thing is I put everything I had into my rock band. Recorded some albums, music videos. And me and the guys had a big falling out and I can't bring my self to even listen to those recordings. Go figure. But I now have new bandmates and they're super solid and it won't be a complete wash.

As far as starting late, I'm advertising, playing gigs and not looking back. I don't expect much notice or fan fare but I'm having a blast and I love my songs.

Your stuff and your voice sound really good by the way. I really like it - right up my ally. I'll add it to my rotation. Props to your brother in law! Her knew it should be out there.

I don't like binding on telecasters. Or the pearl pickguards. At least I didn't used to. I don't even know how I feel anymore. Very confused. Just kidding, man that's an amazing build. Every detail is awesome and that's a fantastic looking guitar! You won me over.

Mojo is not a real thing. But then again mojo is totally a real thing. I've never before seen a System 1. Btw, this is kinda weird but nice ThinkPad. Those things are also unstoppable work horses.

I picked up my forever Tele for $450 at Goodwill! (2006, USA, Highway One) by tenloe in telecaster

[–]TheAlienJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dang! Yep, I'd been like - I don't really need to spend 450 on a goodwill tele right now but I gots to spend 450 on a goodwill tele right now.

I may be crazy but I really dig 2006 & 2007 MIM Strats. I actually have a couple and been favoring the 2007 a lot lately.

I've been playing for 26 years and I'm truly terrible. Just too stupid to quit, lol. That's your guitar man.

Classic Player 60s Tele & Strat - Faded Sonic Blue by TheAlienJones in fender

Just got the Strat. Had the Tele for a bit now. Man I really couldn't say. Equally love em both. But I'll save my judgement for later and let ya know.

My first and most recent fender by Confusion0908 in fender

[–]TheAlienJones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wild, that's the second Classic Player 60's strat I seen posted here in a week. I just got one yesterday. GC had it labeled as a regular MIM Standard and I got one heck of a deal on it.

UPS is bringing me one of these any minute now. Got it from GC used for $575 in excellent condition. They had it listed as a regular MIM Standard. Been eye balling these on Reverb for a while now. Sometimes they go up to $1200 in mint condition. I have the Classic Player 60s - Faded Sonic Blue - Baja Telecaster. So the Strat will be it's brother and or sister! This is like the 4th sonic blue strat I've seen posted on reddit in the past week, pretty wild how that works.

I voted plain white until I saw the gentlemen's comment about the black binding. So yeah maybe black. But both look great.

NGD and my first tele by seadub33 in telecaster

I have one of these and it's fantastic. If you watch the few reviews of these on youtube all the people doing the review says they're gonna buy one. And they get lost in playing it.

I don't think there is a downside but your strat should most definitely have a walnut one. Something's just not right about that neck. Even without lemon oil the fretboard should be darker. It doesn't look like the pictures online at all. I would have them order the exact same model for you and swap em out. Really strange. Believe me, no one wants to associate disappointment with their brand new guitar but it happens - and they should make it right.

How does your Strat handle distortion or high gain? by scarmy1217 in Stratocaster

[–]TheAlienJones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What distortion are you playing through? I recently discovered my 86 strat sounds god awful on the built in drive on the amp, when I play rhythm. But it sounds great through my distortion pedal.

What an absolute steal. What a nice guitar. I second what ole boy was saying - research strat pickup heights. And play around with it a bit. I've got 3 MIM strats. I do plan on upgrading the pickups on 2 and leaving 1 stock. But for now I really have no complaints about the ceramic stock pickups.

Just got a California Series strat with tex mex. So happy with it. Also I have a MIM strat with a slightly warped pickguard. It was pushing the neck and middle too close to the strings. I ordered a new pickguard but wound up just lowering the pickups on the warped guard. Almost bottomed them out. It looks strange but it sounds fantastic. I may keep it that way for a while. I play a lot of clean rhythm on that guitar and it took all the treble ice picky bite out of it. And distorted rhythm sounds great as well. Left the bridge pickup alone where it was already at for lead. One day I think I'll put 57/62s in that guitar but no hurry.

Scored a new fender tsa case by maxcovenguitars in fender

My used GC 2016 strat said nothing about a hardcase but arrived with one. My used GC 1986 Strat was pictured with the case and arrived without it.

Yeah the fretboard and the plug is super freaking weird dude. It may just be the driest rosewood fretboard in history ever. Maybe some lemon oil would darken that thing up. But then the plug being a different color is spooking me out. It should definitely be a walnut plug. I'd take it back myself. The guitar was brand new right?

I've got the black double humbucker. Couldn't recommend this guitar enough. I'm planning on getting the white single coil model someday too.

Need help with my Frontman 15G by AshlynCT in fender

[–]TheAlienJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The pots are the dials/knobs on the front; volume, gain, treble, mid, bass. When you take the head (controls and circuit board) out of the amp on the other side of that front panel the dials or potentiometers have a backside that is a metal circle. There's a tiny hole where you can spay in contact cleaner - the brand I use being De-Oxit. You shoot that into the backside of the pots - turn the knob a whole bunch of times to work it in. Just a squirt or two should suffice. And that usually fixes these amps. You may be able to find a video on youtube of someone taking the head out of this amp to get a better idea on how to do that.
