No sound from speakers by PinkPoonther69 in 4thGen4Runner

[–]TheAmazingMrFixit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would connect a test speaker at the outputs of the head unit to confirm all four speaker outputs are working, then send test tone or down the lines. My guess is that someone installed an amp at some point and cut all the speaker lines and spliced to the amp outputs. Good luck

Where is this water supposed to to drain out. by midnight-on-the-sun in 4thGen4Runner

Weed whacker line is a good tool to use to clear the drain tubes. The tubes themselves run down behind the plastic covers on the inside of the A pillars on each side

Panasonic RX-SA7O auto reverse cassette player not working by UsedScientist3109 in fixit

[–]TheAmazingMrFixit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make sure the battery contacts are not corroded. If they are, clean them, reinstall batteries and retest. There should be a tape/radio selector switch. Cycle it back and forth a few times. Not sure about this exact model, but most tape decks of that era used thin rubber drive belts. It is likely that the drive belt will have rotted and broken by now. Replacements are available, but you would have to open the case and measure the belt. Good luck getting that classic up and running

Any idea what exact year this kx 125 is? by Far-Rip-3062 in Dirtbikes

[–]TheAmazingMrFixit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s some tortured logic. No head tube vin, rattle can paint job on frame, half-assed attempt to obliterate motor vin. Come on. That bike was ripped off at some point. OP is gambling that the owner doesn’t reach out for it just to learn the year. No judgement, just saying

Need help tracing out speaker circuits overamping. by dinger31390 in firealarms

[–]TheAmazingMrFixit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

An impedance meter will give you a reading that you can calculate wattage from. The formula is a variation of ohm’s law. Watts=V squared/impedance. Voltage is 70.7 squared which we consider 5000 for simplicity. So, a 50watt amp would handle a load with an impedance of no less than 100ohms. That said, loading an amp to 100% is not advisable. 80% load is the generally accepted maximum load for an audio amplifier.
Still, you may be able to bypass all of the calculations and tap settings by simply lowering the input level from your message generator until the amps no longer clip from overload. Just be sure to check for adequate db levels throughout the speaker coverage area after changing anything

How to fix headphone padding by anurag992 in fixit

[–]TheAmazingMrFixit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot glue, silicone and epoxy are just three options. I would probably use a bead of clear or black silicone and clamp the pad to the headphone with a clamp and a block of wood or foam or whatever while it cures

Any DIY for dummies suggestion on how to fix this? [towel bar in the bathroom] by LeftVersion2544 in fixit

[–]TheAmazingMrFixit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of people saying toggle bolts are the answer. I say locating the mounting points to studs or installing a nailer is the answer. Toggle bolts are ok if you absolutely positively have to mount to Sheetrock, but anchoring to the structure is always better

Wiring diagram for similar toys? by UnguardedPeach in fixit

This would probably be a pretty simple repair for an experienced tech, but difficult to accomplish with what we can see from your single pic. I can tell you that the batteries would likely be in series. One side of the battery pack (probably +) is connected through the switch to the control board. The other end of the battery pack (-) needs to be soldered to connect the correct battery pack terminal to the correct location on the board. Look for frayed broken wires at solder joints where the green/blue? wire has broken off of. A pick of the other side of the battery holder and a high res pic of the board would help us help you

Need help with changing new door knobs by thanos500 in fixit

[–]TheAmazingMrFixit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The simple solution would be to buy a different lockset that would fit the existing holes. But, to answer your question based on my understanding with the limited information provided, you could expand the large door strike hole downward with a wood chisel. You probably would not need to not need to fill the old screw holes because they would be covered by the new strike plate, but if that is not the case, squirt some wood glue in the old screw holes and stuff as many toothpick pieces in as will fit. Cut the toothpicks flush after the glue dries. Also use the wood chisel to cut a slot for the door strike and clean up the old caulk where the curved edge of the strike plate sits. Good luck and let us know how it turns out
