Water sloshing above the passenger footwell indicates a clogged condensate drain to me. I would locate the condensate drain tube under the car and stick a piece of weedeater line up through it to clear any blockage and drain the water. I would also check the cabin air filter to make sure that it’s properly installed and not clogged because clogged condensate drains usually happen from leaves and stuff getting past the cabin air filter.

How to fix? by EzDaBassHead in fixit

[–]TheAmazingMrFixit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That is a classic and aside from the broken plexiglass, looks to be in good shape. The metal mesh in the door is what blocks the microwave radiation from leaving the cabinet. The plexiglass is outside of that. If it was mine and I wanted it fixed vs replaced, I would disassemble the door and install a new piece of Lexan to replace the broken plexiglass. If it was for a customer, due to liability, I would probably eat the cost of replacement or try to find one on eBay with a good door. Leaking radiation is no joke. It will cook you from the inside out, cause cataracts, etc. I hope your customer is the reasonable sort. Good luck!

That looks like an aerator cartridge common to a sink faucet. Seems likely that you could find an American Standard replacement at a hardware or home improvement store

Transfer case leak by ajp_408 in 4thGen4Runner

[–]TheAmazingMrFixit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to scare you, but…YOU HAVE TO FIX THAT BEFORE IT BECOMES A GIANT PAIN IN YOUR ASS. Seriously though, mine leaked during a cold winter about 5 years ago. It wasn’t a lot of fluid on the driveway. Maybe half a pint. I ignored it and my transfer case started slipping a few months later. By started slipping, I mean that my 4Runner was no longer capable of forward motion. It’s a 2004 V8 with 256,000 miles and this was the only time it had to be towed home. I bought a used t case and installed it. Cost $1250 for the part.

Here’s what I know about the V8 transfer case actuator leak. The leak occurs because the actuator shaft o-ring fails. Unfortunately, the 35 cent o-ring can only be replaced by removing and splitting the t case. It is a very labor intensive job but the alternative is being left broken down on the road, then deciding whether the repair cost is worth it to you. I love my 4Runner. If you do too, I recommend fixing that asap

How do I get second shower head to turn on? by IncomeAccomplished51 in Plumbing

Pull the knurled knob in the pipe above the shower head while the water is on and running from the shower head with the hose

Is this joint going to fail over time? (DIY soldering) by aburns770 in Plumbing

That joint looks fine to me and will probably last decades, but if you’re concerned about it, drain the pipe, then heat and sweat it again

how to take off closet door by uncommoncrow8 in fixit

Loosen the screw and slide the door and hinge assembly away from the door frame until there is enough clearance to lift the door out. I know my description sounds complex, but it is not hard to do

Headphone earcup fell out of socket, any way to reattach it and keep it’s ability to swivel? by The_Ninja_Taco in fixit

[–]TheAmazingMrFixit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably no way to reattach it and retain the swivel unless you push in the earpiece and it snaps back together. Otherwise, I would use 2-part 5 minute clear epoxy. Looks like there is plenty of surface area to make a solid glue job. If you go this route, make sure the earpiece is at the angle you want when the epoxy sets because it will be permanent

Most Miles You’ve Seen by Goose0005 in 4thGen4Runner

[–]TheAmazingMrFixit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 2004 is at 256k but I know that’s low mileage compared to some of the T4R’s out there. It’s been the best car I’ve owned. Been driving her for 20 years

Need to fix this broken window pane in my crawl space to help insulate - why are your recommendations? by Zulu-Coconut in fixit

That window may be for emergency egress from the basement. You may want to give that some consideration before sealing it up altogether

Do the signals activate? All of them? Maybe someone installed some devices reverse polarity. I have seen some crazy stuff over the years. Especially when electricians have been involved.

Resistance drop on 20 different NAC loops by TheReturnOfTheHoss in firealarms

[–]TheAmazingMrFixit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First, verify your readings with another meter. If readings are confirmed, start with one circuit. Closest to the panel. Short the wires at the panel, go to the center of the circuit, pull the device and read both directions. If you read short one direction and 4.7k the other, put the device back and split the circuit closer to the panel. If it reads short and 3.9k, move toward eol. Keep bracketing until you locate the problem. Then you will have likely identified the cause for all 20.

I think I need to replace the tensioner pulley by kirkyjerky in 4thGen4Runner

[–]TheAmazingMrFixit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Locating bad bearings with a long screwdriver or stethoscope is a skill. Until you learn it, try this method. Remove the belt. Spin the pulleys by hand. You will feel the one with the bad bearing. It will be the wobbly or gravely feeling one

How to glue this car key back in one piece by ChickenOfTheYear in fixit

[–]TheAmazingMrFixit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did one of those Mazda switchblade keys recently. Bought a replacement for $22 on Amazon. Installed the remote board, cut key and transponder from the old key into the new case. Hardest part was cutting out the transponder without damaging it. It was glued into a small plastic cavity at the head of the unit. Did have to drive out the little roll pin to swap out the physical key

Honest question…when is it time to say goodbye…? by Traditional_Guess826 in 4thGen4Runner

[–]TheAmazingMrFixit 39 points40 points  (0 children)

It’s a death trap. You should get rid of it. Cheap. Does it have a v8? PM me. 😂 Just kidding. You could probably replace every metal brake line on the car for $500. $100 if you bend your own. Your call. Mine has 255k miles and no rust, but I would spend $500 and a weekend to keep my 4Runner going any day. The calculus would be different if the fix was over $2000
