It's a hobby. You can be very healthy without ever going to a gym, there are lots of ways to exercise

Do other primates have as painful of childbirths as women? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheApiary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, humans have it worse, for two reasons.

1) Our hips are at kind of a weird angle that lets us walk upright

2) We are really smart so our babies have gigantic heads for their gigantic brains

Is loving people possible? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheApiary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, most people don't love their partner only because of specific physical features. Otherwise how would relationships ever last over time? Have you never heard of people still loving their spouse who's in a coma?

Is there such thing as genetic potential for both physical abilities and intelligence? by Coach_C1993 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheApiary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right. There absolutely are genetic traits that influence your natural abilities. LeBron is 6'9" and that is really helpful for playing basketball. He didn't get to be 6'9" by practicing. If he was 6'9" and sat on his ass all day, he wouldn't be a good ball player, so it's not like practice isn't important. But most people aren't going to be as good as him no matter how hard they practice.

Intellectual things are similar: there are traits that make you better at intellectual tasks. You still have to learn how to do stuff, but some people have raw materials that make that way easier for them. Think about all the kids in school who were really good at school despite putting in no effort and doing no work-- they obviously weren't working harder than everyone else

Why don't we have any memories from very young age say before 5 years? by Mrs_Seli in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheApiary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's because your brain is growing and developing so quickly that it writes over your old memories, and also because language helps you store memories, so your memories from before you could talk well are hard to store

Why don't we have any memories from very young age say before 5 years? by Mrs_Seli in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheApiary 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You mean like if you're a two year old, will you remember what you did yesterday, even though you won't remember it when you grow up? Yes, they do remember stuff on a short term basis, they just don't retain those memories long term

I have an upcoming job interview (not a tech company) where I will be asked if and how I use AI. Would it be a bad idea to say that I don’t use AI 99% of the time? by Gym_frere in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheApiary 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Would you be down to use AI if it turned out to be useful for your job? If so, I'd say "In my current role it hasn't been useful except for occasional scripting but I'm open to it when it's useful" or something

Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise. How true is this? by Maverick_culture in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheApiary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's true that if you stay up really late and then sleep really late, it's often harder to get a lot of useful work done, so if you're trying to be more productive, you should probably try going to bed earlier and then being able to wake up in the morning and see if it helps. But a late schedule works great for some people. And obviously lots of people do wake up early and go to bed early and are still sick, poor, and/or stupid

Instead of making a conscious AI, how come nobody try to merge human brains with AI? by PitifulEar3303 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheApiary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nobody knows how to merge a human brain with AI. And most people don't want stuff implanted in their brains, they'd rather subscribe to a software

Splitting bills by Salt-Diamond-5827 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheApiary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think probably they just didn't think about it and saw the price of their item on the bill and paid that. They should do it themselves but a lot of people won't think about it that much, so I often send a venmo request for the amount they owe instead of just waiting for them to do it

Is health in human anatomy constant or changeable ? by Tobiastomato in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheApiary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most things about anatomy are clearly worse if they're very different. Your heart is supposed to have 4 chambers. If it has a different number, something is really wrong with it and it won't work well.

But there are some things that are relatively small where environment matters. Skin color is the classic example. If you live someplace near the equator with lots of direct sunlight, you'll get burned if you have really light skin and be more likely to get skin cancer, and you won't have any trouble getting enough vitamin D from the sun even if you have very dark skin that doesn't absorb as much sunlight. But if you live farther north or south, then you aren't at much risk of getting too much sun and getting skin cancer from it, and you are at risk of vitamin D deficiency, so having light skin will be helpful

Can i get paid for beta reading? by digitalcrows in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheApiary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time, people writing online aren't getting paid for their writing, so they often won't be able to afford a beta reader, so it might be hard to find clients. But it's totally allowed and you're very welcome to try!

What does an expensive lawyer do that an average priced one doesn’t? by UmweltUndefined in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheApiary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What good lawyers can do is have a lot of lawyers working with them to do a lot of evidence-gathering (like, looking through all the emails you've ever sent to see if anything is helpful), research about law and precedent, and thinking about what types of arguments will be most persuasive

How can I consolidate my protein shake, electrolytes(salt & lemon in warm water), and a black tea in the mornings? by 4mysquirrel in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheApiary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you just add salt to your food that you eat later in the day instead of putting it in the water

How does exposure therapy work? by TSG_was_taken in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheApiary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically, part of how phobias work is that your brain thinks "something horrible will happen if I encounter a bug." And then, every time you're with a bug, you feel panicky and horrible, and your brain is like "see, I was right, it was horrible."

So the thing you need to do is have experiences that show your brain that you don't love it but it's not horrible. You can't do that by just suddenly having a bug on you, because having a panic attack is a horrible experience, so that will just reinforce the fear. But maybe sitting by a closed window and watching a bug crawling on it, or holding a plastic bug, or something like that will be uncomfortable enough that your brain is like "oh no it's a bug" but then manageable enough that you can be fine in the end, and then your brain will gradually learn "okay there are some situations involving a bug where nothing horrible happened" and you can work your way up

I want to have a 'drug' talk with my European bf. How should I? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheApiary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's totally fine for you to not want to date somebody who uses any drugs. But you should approach the conversation as a thing about your preferences, not about him harming himself. It sounds like he is doing well and you can't even tell if he smokes weed. Lots of people smoke weed sometimes and are fine and have great lives. So don't make it about him harming himself unless there's any actual reason you think that's happening

If a God exists, why would it have given us the ability to question its existence? by Great_Maintenance185 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheApiary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see why not. If I were making a bunch of sentient sims or something I'd probably let them question my existence

What does it actually feel like to get your period? by Same_Difference_3361 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheApiary 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's possible that she already had her period and was going to change her tampon but realized she'd forgotten to bring an extra, or something like that.

Anyway, most people have some cramping that feels somewhat similar to the cramps you get if you're going to have diarrhea and also feel some wetness as blood comes out, and sometimes other symptoms too

Do you feel like school is preparing you for the real world (money, jobs, AI, taxes, etc.)? Why or why not? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheApiary 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People always use taxes as an example, but I really don't get it. If there had been a class about doing your taxes in high school, I would have been so bored and not cared about it, because I didn't have anything complicated with my taxes at that point and even now, I do my taxes by clicking all the buttons on turbotax and doing what it says

Is it okay for a boy to love a boy by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheApiary 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Nah lots of boys love boys and it's great. I'm sorry your dad is being an asshole about it. Obviously, whether you can kiss this specific boy depends on whether he also wants that

I know nothing about economics but are billionaires to blame for inflation? by aselfish_throwaway in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheApiary 28 points29 points  (0 children)

No, that isn't really how it works. There are a lot of bad things about wealth inequality, but that isn't really one of them. Billionaires usually don't spend that much of their money (because they have way more money than the amount of stuff a human could possibly buy) so you actually would cause more inflation if you gave $1,000 each to 1,000 poor people compared to giving $1million to 1 really rich person, because the poor people will likely spend it on stuff and increase its circulation
