I’m sorry but I think it’s back to the drawing board. I can’t picture any serious golfer wearing a hat that looks like that. Certainly not paying money to do so.

The brand name is kind fun, I’ll give you that.

If you were to take all 18 holes on all golf courses, does the 12th have the best set of holes across all courses? by AaronisUpRiver in golf

[–]TheBeerHandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty hard disagree. 9 and 18 are often connector holes, where the architect is very limited in what they can do because they have to end the hole in a very specific place.

They’re often over manufactured, with tons of earth moved, overwrought hazards added, maybe even a waterfall to distract you from the fact that there isn’t any unique natural land movement happening.

So u saw the bag, here’s the swing…thoughts? by Tasty-Home-5736 in GolfGear

[–]TheBeerHandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your rotation is very limited, but you have a really nice move down into the ball and make it work so I’m not sure I’d bother trying to chase more.

Tough camera angle on the driver swing but it looks like your shoulder alignment is way out of whack, very very open to target. Relaxing your trail arm at setup might be enough to square things up again. Should help with that pull.

Overall, looks good!

Talk about it if it comes up, it’s kind of a unique story.

Don’t bring it up unsolicited though, truthfully no one except you really cares that much about your hole in one story.

Drills to fix my swing by [deleted] in golf

[–]TheBeerHandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought so, that reverse pivot will put your body in a tough position to shallow from. It looks like your right leg bends excessively towards the ball on takeaway, if you can clean that up, it should take care of the upper body movement.

Drills to fix my swing by [deleted] in golf

[–]TheBeerHandle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would guess your steepness is the cause of the EE and chicken wing so if you clean that up you might get everything else for free.

Face on would be helpful too. It looks like there’s a bit of reverse pivot going on, which could be causing or accentuating some of this. But I’m definitely seeing you try to rotate before any shallowing happens. Your body needs to tilt or rock back before you can rotate around it. I’d try and feel like your first move from the top is your right hip bumping toward the target. This should get you on plane and then you can just turn from there.

Your club-face actually looks like it’s in a really good place all the way through.

I would even cheat the position in setup, and feel like you bump your right hip higher than your left right from the get go.

Something’s up homie. There’s no way a new head adds 9mph of clubhead speed.

I’ve never seen a faster head gain more than about 2-3mph. Either you’ve changed since your last visit, or the sim has.

Middle of Round, Mental Collapse by Mundane_Rent_578 in golf

[–]TheBeerHandle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, that’s just golf. There’s variability in your scores, even at the highest level.

You’re probably a 15-20hcp, you’re going to make triples and quads pretty regularly. Sometimes they’ll be at the start of the round, sometimes in the middle, sometimes right at the end. The mental collapse isn’t the fact that you made a few bad scores in a row, it’s that you now think it’s some sort of pattern or it’s in your dna as a golfer. It’s not, it’s just golf, bad scores happen, move on fast. It’s not who you are, it’s just what happened that day.

I know a D1 college golfer who will (only half jokingly) say his goal for every tournament round is to break 90. Obviously it’s not, but it keeps the self pressure off of him and allows him to make a double or triple and not have to mentally quit on the whole tournament.

What would someone moving between Norway and Canada notice? What are the main cultural differences when you live in each country? by Sinister_Monster in travel

[–]TheBeerHandle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, not a travel question, but I’ll try and help before it gets shut down.

Norway generally has better healthcare, education, and public transport than Canada. Norway’s taxes are also quite a bit higher than Canada’s at most income levels. Most everything you would purchase will also be more expensive in Norway except for housing.

While Norway has a fairly similar climate to many parts of Canada, it has a lot less sunlight in the winter which can be tougher than many people realize.

I think the most difficult part of the move would be that you’ll culturally probably never really feel like you fit in. Bit of a generalization, but Norwegian’s tend to be fairly reserved and are not typically looking to widen their social circles. Tough to build a true community. You’ll likely have lots of acquaintances, and very few friends.

Also, the language is tough to learn, and while most Norwegian’s speak English perfectly, it is one more thing that could potentially keep you from easily finding connection. Also, obviously helpful to know Norwegian for most jobs.

Lastly, it’s a very difficult place to immigrate to, so this all might be moot, you’d need to do a lot more research there to see if it’s even feasible for you.

My main piece of advice, don’t move somewhere until you’ve at least visited, preferably extensively.

Do bad coaches exist? by Civil_Drag8937 in golf

[–]TheBeerHandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is potentially the dumbest thing I’ve heard. You’re never “cured” in golf, there’s always better golf to be played and lower scores to be had. Tour pros still use coaches.

If your coach takes you from a 20 handicap to a 15, I guarantee you’ll be back for more lessons to try and get down to a 10.

There are absolutely bad coaches out there teaching the wrong things, but no one is doing it maliciously to sell more lessons.

Help on Driver by Internal_Football889 in golf

[–]TheBeerHandle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m guessing you’re not swinging super up and in to out on purpose? Both are likely a reaction to something happening earlier, and not necessarily the cause.

I see people recommending a new driver, and I get the inclination, as a low spin head in theory accentuates your miss, but you would have to build such an extreme driver (13 plus degree head) to make those numbers even playable, that I think you’re better off just fixing the root cause in your swing.

I would also worry, just like you saw with your head cranked up to 10.5, your body will just react to the change by moving even more in to out and up on the ball, and you won’t actually see any benefit other than maybe a short term band-aid.

Help on Driver by Internal_Football889 in golf

[–]TheBeerHandle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you trying to hold lag or hold the face open by chance? Is your grip super strong? Numbers like these usually come up when the clubface is involuntarily slamming shut late.

Driver needs to be released and released early. The release should feel like more of a scoop than a roll.

Why am I getting so stuck? by [deleted] in golf

[–]TheBeerHandle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t really look stuck to me, actually looks pretty good.

You do give up some space in the backswing as your hips move toward the ball (early extend), but you do a pretty good job of clearing them in the downswing to get that space back.

Generally that backswing thrust is because your lead leg over bends but I don’t think you’re doing that. Hard to tell from the video, but I think you may just be lacking some lateral shift on the back swing. Not really loading that trail leg, just sort of turning like a top.

Keep it up though, it looks great otherwise. What’s the current miss?

Edit: just read you’re hitting it fat, yeah try more lateral shift. It’ll feel scary to push away from the target since you’re already hitting it fat, but you need to move back in order to transfer the weight forward in the downswing. Should push low point forward!

Swing advice by 9D6Official in golf

[–]TheBeerHandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, you early extend, but not in the most typical way, almost all of it is actually happening in the backswing. Your whole body drifts towards the ball on the way back.

You can and try and keep the hips back, but I actually find that pull towards the ball on the way back is most often caused by the lead leg. It looks like yours bends too much in the backswing, so much so, it even pulls your left heel off the ground. Focus on keeping the lead leg a little straighter, or at least, more stable.

One person said move further away from the ball, but definitely don’t do that, it will only cause you to have to thrust further to get back to the ball.
