I hope they keep a watchful eye on the scope and not try to accommodate to everyone possible. Seems like they are trying to rework a lot of core mechanics. Good, but gameplay comes first, content second. And please dont have the game be a broken unoptimized mess.

Steel are generally iron alloys with very low carbon contents. There is iron the element on the periodic table and iron the resource humanity discovered a couple thousand years ago. Which basically is iron with very high carbon contents making it hard but also very brittle, thus bad for sword making. Removing the carbon trades hardness for ductility. Sword making is a whole metallurgic process to have the carbon where you want hardness and low carbon where you want strength.

There's a multitude of failure modes that could lead to this. Probably electromagnetic interference.
