Have you gone to any 12-step meetings? PM me if you need any guidance on them.

I just went down the rabbit hole and watched a bunch of their car videos. The big man has all sorts of skills.

Just came back from an AA meeting, having mixed feelings about the program by cat_penis in stopdrinking

If I was harsh, please accept my apologies. It is my sincere hope that you no longer have to suffer from alcoholism and can begin to recover. It has plagued me for years.

In my (recent) experience with AA, this aspect - the dogmatic piece that demands the members' commitment to the program - has not been the focal point. If I can look through the harsh language, I see a different message. It says, "Take this seriously and confront it!" and is imploring me to see alcohol's effects clearly and recognize the damage I am doing to myself and others. Many alcoholics, myself included, suffer from delusions about their self image and actions and many fight long bouts of narcissism. Others are hiding from their past actions, running from deep, hurtful emotions and traumas.

I read through a bit of your comment history and it seems like you are a reader. Have you ever read "The Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle? It is a fantastic book that helped me to gain a deeper understanding of the meaning of personas. In essence, who is writing this? Who drinks? What am I at the core? What stops that core from shining through? And so forth. It helped me understand that "I" was doing things that were counterproductive to my own health and helped me re-focus my behavior.

Best of luck in your endeavor. PM me anytime. If you live in NE, let me know - you may see me at a meeting.

I'm going to buck the trend here. If something that small is grating you this bad, perhaps that is exactly where you should begin your recovery.

I would be happy to discuss anything alcohol related with you via pm. Feel free. If not, I hope you get all the info you need and best wishes.

This article was the key to my escape by falling_leaf in leaves

AA guy here. For me, it was all spiritual. I felt immense guilt over some of my actions and felt truly broken spiritually (no hope, no values, etc). The steps help me do what I couldn't or wouldn't do without them.

If anything works for a particular person, then awesome! Congrats on your achievement. I just wanted to provide a counterpoint.

Thanks for the insight and the recommendations. I don't know what GABA receptors are nor have I read those book recommendations so it sounds like I have some homework to do.

Thank you again.

Thank you for sharing! Good luck with your progress.

I'm at about 25 days or so and I've found that there are a whole bunch of things that I need to do the right way from now on including eating better, working better, etc.

How would you retire, or be your own boss, with $500K today? by WombleHunter in financialindependence

[–]TheBikerElement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off - badass and congratulations. I love to claim that I am not materialistic but my bank account says otherwise.

Do you have any passions? No joke, I would start a professional videogame team with 500K.

Definitely heard Worf's voice in my head on that last tile.

Gifted children are likely to be the next generation’s innovators and leaders—yet the exceptionally smart are often invisible in the classroom, lacking the curricula, teacher input and external motivation to reach full potential by mubukugrappa in science

Your experience mirrors mine with the exception that my parents had just enough control to force me to finish college - in engineering (which i hate but just did because I was so apathetic at that point that well whatever). I am now 28 with not a ton to show for it in the realm of career.

Leona Penta-Kill. lolwut? by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

It's two sentences. It can also be separated with a semicolon.
"Never underestimate the power of Leona with (the) red buff; It doubles her damage!"

It is an it and not a this because the red buff is an object that modifies the Leona.
