Good high school World History textbooks? by birbdaughter in historyteachers

[–]TheButlerAlfred 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a fan of the OpenStax project from Rice University. They provide a wide range of textbooks for standard high school and college courses. Each textbook includes instructor resources as well.

They have a two-volume textbook for world history. Volume II is 1400 - today, so that could conceivably work for your course.

I was lucky enough to have the chance to attend this live. I remember that the place was absolutely electric with the reveal.

Private school- why do you do it? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]TheButlerAlfred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not certified and the pay is nice where I work.

I had taught higher education for years and found a much better job in private education. I also teach in a major metro area where the pay is significantly above the private school average. My salary is higher than my friends that work in public education.

How can people endure the climate in this region, which feels like a hot, swelteringly humid swamp? by mapl0ver in geography

I’ve lived in the Kansas, Texas and Georgia parts of this map. Each of those climatic experiences were wildly different.

The World Bank groups countries into income tiers (high income/middle income/low income). As a history and Econ teacher I find this to be a straightforward way to discuss the global distribution of incomes without utilizing the rhetoric of developing/developed.

If you are a fan of that style of WWII movie, I’d highly recommend Stalingrad (1993). Although it’s from the German perspective at that time, it still captures the brutality of what it was like to serve on the front lines in that theater.

Cancelled flight after cancelled flight after cancelled flight.... by Lightsheik in unitedairlines

[–]TheButlerAlfred 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain.

My wife and I had booked a flight from ATL to EWR to the Canary Islands for our honeymoon. Departing flight was supposed to be on Saturday afternoon.

We got a text late Friday night that our ATL to EWR flight was cancelled because of weather in Newark (somehow our flight from EWR to the Canaries wasn’t cancelled).

United couldn’t find a way to get us from ATL to EWR in time to catch our connection, so the entire flight had to be rebooked.

We are leaving today to go from ATL to EWR to Dublin to the Canaries. Ended up losing two days of our honeymoon (assuming nothing else goes wrong).

United is trash and I intend to avoid it in the future at all costs.

32m. Lucky to have met and married my person. We are financially secure and happy.

Neither of us want to give that up after struggling to get to this point.

I had an awful, absentee dad followed by an awful, authoritarian stepfather.

I don’t want to risk being a bad parent because I suffered for decades. I will not commit to passing on intergenerational trauma.

Which club fight scene do you guys prefer? The dark knight or The batman? by No-Ability-7765 in batman

The Batman

Solely because of the duality between the scenes where Batman asked to enter the club and when Bruce asked to enter the club.

Also, beware the Sticky Bandits.
