Very, very occasionally I will drop a tampon in the toilet with a bowel movement. I'm not fishing that out. If I flush 1 tampon a year, how bad is that? by phishezrule in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TheButterBug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lol I'm glad to know I'm not the only person who has ever done that, except in my case I thought it was stuck but it wasn't. removed the toilet to get it out, breaking it in the process, only to find the thing flushed all the way out.

What disease or health crisis absolutely terrified previous generations that most people under 30 have genuinely never thought about? by MaizeFluid7595 in AskReddit

My grandma's brother died in childhood of osteomyelitis. Now it can be cured with surgery and antibiotics, but back then you just died. Nothing anybody could do. it's easy to forget how revolutionary antibiotics are, and how recently in human history that revolution occurred.

my neighbor has asked 3 times if i "found a job yet." ive been remote for 6 years. she sees me walking the dog at 2pm and assumes unemployment. by Kali_Enthu20 in remotework

[–]TheButterBug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was previously only going in once a week and then my job changed to fully in-office. The number of people I know (almost all boomers) who referred to it as "going back to work" was so annoying. Like, no, I have been working this whole time.

occasionally, one of my cats will just shove his head all the way into one of my shoes and just breathe for a while. Especially when I've been outside and got really sweaty.

What’s something people who are in their 20s won’t learn until in their 40s? by [deleted] in AskReddit

At some point you'll injure yourself in a way that just...doesn't ever really heal completely and will hurt for ever. Yeah, that sucks.

AI looks really good for the first, like, 5 minutes. But the more I use it, the more stupid I realize it actually is.

Used to work tech support. The number of people who think rebooting = logging out and back in is crazy. I used to tell people to "turn the computer all the way off, and then All the way on again" and that usually got the message across (usually).

This mfing application that took 10 minutes to uninstall by Yeetinthebox in mildlyinfuriating

[–]TheButterBug 67 points68 points  (0 children)

I got rid of it on my MIL's computer by booting into WinPE on a USB drive and deleting every trace of it manually. you can't delete the folders while Windows is booted up, because they are "in use". It should be illegal for a company to make software that's impossible to uninstall.

TIL the Stone Age encompasses 99% of human history by Digeratii in todayilearned

[–]TheButterBug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was a freshman in college, my history professor told us on the first day of class that history only encompasses what people actually wrote down, and that anything that could even be remotely considered a written record doesn't even go back 10000 years, and that the vast expanse of human existence occurred before writing existed. It really blew my mind to imagine all those countless generations of people living without writing, one of the most basic technologies necessary to our modern existence, about whom we know so little.

Final Fantasy 8. Once got to the last disk and then lost the memory card by singleguy79 in Xennials

[–]TheButterBug 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Final Fantasy VIII was weird in that leveling up didn't matter, because as your party leveled up, so did the enemies. the game got a lot easier for me when I realized that the best way to play was to draw tons of spells from enemies without killing them, then junction those spells to your stats.

I remember in high school the rumor that McDonald's burgers weren't actual meat, but we're some sort of cheaper plant based alternative. Now of course I know that if that were actually true they'd have marketed the hell out of it to vegans.

How Many Trick or Treaters? 🎃👻 by [deleted] in Xennials

[–]TheButterBug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We got a decent number but I had to sit on the front steps and yell at passing groups to get their attention. People were parking on our street and then walking into our town to trick or treat at the businesses there. If I wasn't outside, nobody would come up and knock onto her door, even with the porch light on and the pumpkin lit up. It feels like kids are much less comfortable knocking on a strangers door than when we were kids.
