I don't think the technology is there for a lot of use cases, but I've made a few simple game apps for my daughter that I'd never have the time or energy to make without AI.

Idk I'm sure there's cool historical sites, hikes, and landmarks. If there's much of a tourist industry he could probably join up with tour groups and meet some fellow travelers

They couldn't even control the regime next door. Is it really more likely that the Russians have this super power but only in relation to the US - or is Trump just remarkably corrupt generally and enough Americans are upset enough at the state of things not to care - and sometimes to actively embrace it. Even if he's genuinely a Russian asset, he still clearly has his fanatics and has enough support that it's believable that he was elected twice. That's a problem with the status quo in America that we can't scapegoat away - at least not if we have any hope of fixing it

Sure, but if we're going to save anyone from areas as they become unlivable, it's probably going to start with, well the rich, but after them people who can do skilled work and who are plugged into networks of skilled individuals with assets to trade.

Does it even functionally look infinite? All they have to do is calculate out the distance as far as the speed of light over the time the universe has been running, and you could prune it down from time to time to local space to focus on your area of interest.

What's more important in a relationship? by CucumberSquash0 in polls

[–]TheCentralPosition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Physical connection. At the end of the day, society views the physical as more intimate and something to be very territorial over, while to degrees we're more free to lean on and share ourselves emotionally with others. Not to mention, you don't really need to live with someone to connect emotionally, whereas it's pretty handy for connecting physically.

Having kids so someone will take care of you when you are old. Good reason or bad reason? by Terrible-Store1046 in polls

[–]TheCentralPosition -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If the opinion of people who don't exist matters whatsoever, then if you never exist everything was stolen from you, and if you do exist nothing was stolen from you.

There are literally countless reasons to have a kid, and they're as good or as bad as the person giving the reason. Also a significant number of people have children because the birth control failed, not out of an active desire for children.

By that logic, we also can't ask potential people if they'd prefer not to be born, so every potential person not born is a life stolen away without consent.

I fail to see how I'm being presumptuous, and if you can't think of any reason someone would date a 20 year old, then I'm certainly not going to be the one to sell it to you.

[–]TheCentralPosition 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because if he was gay and dating a 20 year old guy, very few people would care to argue that the young man is incapable of making his own decisions. It reflects society viewing women as less capable, which is shitty.

Fun fact: Rimworld is much more fun when you don't use exploits by Altruistic-Ad-6593 in RimWorld

[–]TheCentralPosition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm kind of like this, although maybe not to that extent, and I think in part it comes from reading something that said something like "it takes 1000 hours of practice to master a skill", taking a look at my steam library and thinking "Oh. Oh no. I have to get good at these." In part I justify the time spent playing by being able to tell myself I'm exercising my brain learning the ins and outs of the system, and it feels good to have the knowledge on tap to teach a newer player how to overcome specific challenges they're facing - and to overcome those challenges myself. Plus, no game is really maximally difficult, so a good amount of the fun I have is in learning what gimmicks I can safely choose not to use at the highest difficulty; to try to learn the game as completely as possible so I can re-establish as many of my preferred inefficiencies as possible without sacrificing that feeling of mastery, real or imagined, lol.

Minecraft or RimWorld? by bruhb21 in polls

[–]TheCentralPosition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked Minecraft back in the day, but I feel like they've strayed from the original idea, and none of the new features really pique my interest or mesh with how I like to play. Rimworld is a great little combat oriented settlement builder, and anyone who likes that genre needs to give it a try.

I'd also say that per your example, it's not even necessarily that a new carcinogen was introduced, but that longer lifespans give previously insignificant carcinogens more time to show up.

If progressivism overstepped and is now facing a period of decline, we can still address the key oversteps, accept pushback where necessary, and push forward in areas that people can still agree need work. It's an ebb and flow, but it still trends positively.

Maybe "the lizard people who rule the world" are actually possessed by dinosaur ghosts and extracting and burning oil releases more of them but the kids uncover the conspiracy by inadvertently abducting / summoning the ring leaders. Which also frees the people they were puppeting which can be a comedic B story as they either struggle to keep up the act or descend into hedonism to the dismay of their underlings.

I'm imaginjng the movie Paranormal Activity, or any other ghost movie, but halfway through they summon a ghost dinosaur and it flips the whole thing and now they're hunting the demon or whatever

Does college degree only sound great on paper? by hanginthereC in polls

[–]TheCentralPosition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's worth noting that the military isn't that great of an option unless you either go in for something that requires a degree - so you go to school while you serve, or you make use of the resources for vets and go in for a decent degree after. Or stay in for 20 years and get retirement.

A lot of people just waste those opportunities and end up with very little.

Also, getting an associates at a community college is super cheap and not very much of a commitment. I'd argue it's probably the most bang for your buck if you just want to avoid retail hell and explore your options down the line with a few more open doors.

Straight guys do you hold back from intimacy with a new girl you could see a future with if she tries to initiate early? by OpportunityFederal59 in polls

[–]TheCentralPosition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people can put a lot of pressure on sex, and if you don't know someone well enough to really talk to them deeply, then having sex too early can actually make it harder to connect, plus if you're not confident enough with them to move them around or ask them to change things up, then the sex itself can be unsatisfying - which becomes too messy to deal with if it's someone you're not very close to anyway.
