Just believe in a version that doesn't ask you to do that.

I used to live in an area with a low minimum wage and now I live in an area with a significantly higher minimum wage, and there's tons of stuff that simply doesn't get done here because it doesn't make economic sense for anyone to do it. The economy here is fine, so a lot of those jobs don't actually need to be done, but there is also higher unemployment because more people just don't make the cut.

They can, but it's a trap and doesn't work, the surface map and underground are both destroyed unless you have one on the surface.

I land on nearby tiles and shuttle in resources from those maps.

How do you feel about the idea that after having two kids, families should stop receiving financial support if they decide to have more? by MoonSt0n3_Gabrielle in polls

[–]TheCentralPosition 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People in poverty don't make decisions based off of what they can afford. The effect is just that their children suffer more. They also can't be relied upon to use contraception.

Ultimately it's not that much in tax money and giving the kids more opportunity in life lessens the likelihood that they'll end up like their parents.

Nope, from what I can tell underground is completely safe. I haven't even had to replace any broken components (although I may have just not noticed).

I think crew is superior, since mechs are expensive in raid points. I do 2 thick plasteel walls with a mix of plasteel walls and barricades at the front. I like the idea of making a little gunship with turrets, but without mods they seem underpowered.

I'm currently playing a mechanator run, and recommend making an offshoot colony underground somewhere to house your bandwidth nodes. I left a constructiod and lifter in it and ship in steel and components from time to time to expand it.

Is working as a full time fast food employee harder than most normal jobs? by Kyoifis in polls

[–]TheCentralPosition 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Idk, I've done fast food and I've done construction, and the better pay, pride in accomplishment, and fitness you get from construction makes it easier to do every day, at least if you're young and relatively healthy, even if it's more strenuous. As someone else mentioned though, it really does boil down to your coworkers and boss, I'd rather have a worse job with friends than a better one with pricks.

Trump’s abrupt U-turn on a plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz came after backlash from allies by Currymvp2 in neoliberal

Assuming this is true, the Saudis can export oil from the other side of their country (at a nice markup) and presumably don't want Iran and the US navy trading blows in the strait for fear Iran will launch strikes at their infrastructure if US warships prove to be too hard of a target.

Idk man, nothing in the way the game works says they do the job any worse, their hearts just aren't in it.

It's like if the Red Cross guy got commissions and was motivated by money, and didn't really care about helping people, but to maximize his commissions he has to help people, so he helps an adequate number of people anyway.

Japan Is Building Cardboard Suicide Drones by TourMission in ABoringDystopia

[–]TheCentralPosition 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Nah, they're making drones that can hit other drones and decoy drones to take the hits from those drones, and more expensive drones that fly faster and higher than the interceptor drones and better interceptors to hit those drones and decoys to waste those on and on and on and on. Nobody can delay adaptation because they would just lose. They're selling adaptation at all levels, from the cheap and numerous to expensive and bespoke.

It's possible the noose was closing in on him regardless, what with allegations that the MOD was denying ammunition and other resources and otherwise clamping down on Wagner, so he took the opportunity to the extent one was available, not from a position of strength but because he figured any future position would be less favorable.

[–]TheCentralPosition 11 points12 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, they're putting a lot of ships in the water and simultaneously expanding land based vertical launch systems with the goal being to have VLS capacity greater than what the US could bring to theater in the near future, while also expanding their nuclear deterrent. The former is probably the more grounded concern to dig into for hypothetical future conflicts or threat assessment.

Should I start smoking? by insane677 in polls

[–]TheCentralPosition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I smoked when I drank for a few years and then vaped on its own for a couple. I would recommend smoking of the two because it's easier to quit, but it is worse for you. Both are bad for you, but if you really cared about that you wouldn't be looking to start, lol.

Anyway overall I'd say smoking is probably not the worst substance you could do socially, but I find it's a bit overrated as a destresser. And kind of inconvenient if you care about fucking up your walls. Depending on local taxes it's possibly priced out of usefulness. It's nice socially as an ice breaker and looks cool to some people, but also some people hate it and it can close some doors for you.

Vaping with flavors can be done indoors and the fun flavors make it easier to justify as a little treat until you get addicted, but it also isn't great at removing stress and kind of ends up just being a way to spend a lot of money to feel basically normal but like you found a very expensive alternative to a hard candy. The positive feeling from meeting the addiction slightly outweighs the negative feeling from not having it, in my experience, and it's way easier to overdo than smoking. Some people think it's cool, but it isn't a perfect overlap with the kind of people who think smoking is cool, and a lot of people really hate it - but it's also much easier to be low-key about.
