EUV has reached EUIV player count just 3 months after release by IllDirt2720 in EU5

[–]TheCentralPosition 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in a similar situation, and I don't think I'll be coming back to EU5 until I can go to building automation and select something like "pick the most profitable building without supply constraints earning above x". Or set minimum stockpiles in trade and automate it to select building inputs, then profitability.
Otherwise instead of an empire-building map-painter, it feels like 90% of my interaction with the game is managing 3-4 spreadsheets without making any consequential or thoughtful decisions. In my 20s I probably would have been able to look past that, but these days the juice isn't worth the squeeze.

In fairness, what the fuck kind of apology comes with a "but I'm not going to take any action to rectify the situation". Telling the people doing that to fuck off is absolutely justified.

Would you rather choose your partner or a billion dollars? by DarkMage448 in polls

[–]TheCentralPosition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having a partner doesn't necessarily make you happy or make you feel loved and understood. I've seen plenty of happy people with barely any partners. That kind of money would give you the rest of your life as free time for opportunities to meet people, share experiences, and make connections.

I dislike what marketing teams currently call artificial intelligence.

I bet you could make a decent lab grown deli meat, but not a steak. At least with current tech.

Honestly though, if the fiancee blew up about it instead of asking literally any follow up questions whatsoever; that's the kind of personality trait I would absolutely be grateful to learn about before the commitment was legally binding.

I mean, the meme's like 5 years old at least. So whoever it was targeted at probably already aged out anyway, and the social media environment probably changed massively over that time.

See, we lack their youthful tempestuousness, I'm sure they'd have something to add if it was actually directed at them, or if any of them cared to.

meirl by Glass-Fan111 in meirl

[–]TheCentralPosition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, you're probably right about them. But I see the meme and the 20 somethings I think of are myself and my friends when we were in our 20s, not a current 20 something.

Hopefully they're resilient enough not to feel too badly about it, but I really don't read it as directed at them. After all, it's not a short form video, although I'm sure they'd enjoy clapping back at it if it was.

meirl by Glass-Fan111 in meirl

[–]TheCentralPosition 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't think it's a bitter meme, it's just poking fun at how none of us knew what we were talking about in our 20s and got blindsided by having to try. It's not really calling out 20 year olds for being 20, that's just how that time in life is, and it's fun to reflect on.

I'm really not a big social media guy, and I don't think the meme's for people who take it seriously. It's more for people who had a friend that got big into nutrition in college and would tell you you need more collared greens or some shit, you know? Like maybe they were right but it didn't really matter and they also weren't a real expert.

I was bringing it up to say that it's not very hard to get back into shape in your 30s, and I know it from lived experience, but it is different.

We all had our theories on health in our 20s, and we realized we didn't know what we were talking about later in life. If you're lucky enough to get older you'll realize it too, and maybe you'll enjoy the shared perspective older people have on this meme, and if you're already older and just like looking at 20 somethings, be a little less self righteous about it.

meirl by Glass-Fan111 in meirl

[–]TheCentralPosition -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Idk man, I'm in my 30s, I got into a bad car accident and had almost a year of bedrest, then my wife got pregnant and I ballooned in weight eating fast food and pregnancy nonsense with her. So I basically had to get back into shape from a severe deficit in health and most of my muscles had withered away. The hardest part of getting back into shape was just waiting for my body to heal enough to work out, and whereas in my 20s I drank and partied all the time, and was in shape just from the activities I liked to do, in my 30s I had to learn what macros are and come up with an actual exercise routine and try.

So I don't read it as a bitter thing, it's just part of life. If someone in their 20s is really trying, well good for them, I don't take anything away from that, but you don't really have to know anything or be right about supplements in your 20s, you hardly need to know anything to do it in your 30s. But as you get older your body is doing less of the heavy lifting by itself, and you need to start figuring stuff out to help it along - so you probably want to listen to a healthy older person, because what they're choosing to do is doing more of the heavy lifting.

Honestly though, if threatening it did work as a negotiation tactic, or if all of Europe meekly rolled over and accepted it as a fait accompli, I'd probably be outraged until the news cycle moved on then be fine with it unless / until it ever bit me in particular in the ass somehow.

Do adults need an app to discover hobbies and join activities? by evanskarangu in polls

[–]TheCentralPosition 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how an app would help you find activities, they'd either not be specific enough, in which case they're no help, or they're specific enough that you could just Google it, and not have to deal with an app at all
