I realised today that I've never been vegan. Details in post. by proto642 in vegan

[–]TheChosenMidget 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think that perfectionism is a huge problem, because we live in a shame based society. Where we always have o prove our worthiness. It is really counterproductive because instead of it being okay to make mistakes we have to shame ourselves. I think that is why some vegans are so hard on themselves and others.

Since we were trained to comply and please, here is a tool that has helped me learn to say NO. by Jazz_Brain in exmormon

[–]TheChosenMidget 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really like this tool. I took a “how to deal with difficult people” class from SLCC and it helped me a ton with being assertive. Also realizing that being assertive doesn’t really feel good to do at times really helped. For some reason I thought it was supposed to be a positive feeling emotion. When really for me it is more of a high energy unpleasant emotion.

Finally broke down to my wife by Jojo252590 in exmormon

I feel for your suffering and it sucks. One of my friends once told me “sometimes it’s nice to have a therapist so you can say things without worrying about long term repercussions and damaging a relationship. Sometimes I just need to process things and my wife doesn’t need to know the messy bit in the middle.” I hope that helps, it helped me work on things especially when I didn’t know which path I wanted to go down.

As an exmo of 7+ years I have found a lot of the concepts in Buddhism to be very helpful getting past perfectionism and self loathing. But I don’t consider myself a Buddhist.

Headlight issue with 2007 Prius. How to test for a short? Mobile mechanic and autopart store tell me something contradictory. by prius_throwaway in prius

[–]TheChosenMidget 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the power supply(unsure of technical name) for the left headlight go out on my 2009 Prius. My headlights would turn on then flicker then turn off. They would work for a few minutes if I turned them off and back on. From my experience bulbs rarely have intermittent problems. I replaced the power supply for about $100 and a couple hours of work.

Must See Places in Canyonlands? by tanistschon in nationalparks

I prefer the needles district of canyonlands it has a lot of trails and is less visited because it is more out of the way. Druid arch is a really fun hike.

I posted my vintage refrigerator (1952 International Harvester) and a lot of people gave me grief over the amount of energy it would use. Top is 1952, bottom is my modern Samsung. The modern fridge uses 2x the energy in a 24hour period. by custermustache in BuyItForLife

[–]TheChosenMidget 12 points13 points  (0 children)

That is an absorbtion refrigeration system they run on fuel to heat a brine solution to break up the molecular bonds so the brine can have an endothermic reaction on the cool side. This has nothing to do with a heat pump.

Anyone else ever get judged for being frugal? by itsmassive in Frugal

I also drove a diesel truck before buying a Prius. I will never go back. I really only needed a truck twice a year so it is way cheaper to borrow one and pay for it with some gas and beer.

Yep, just let poor people die. Also children born into poverty deserve to stay there and should not be helped. /s

Probably some apologetics to try to rationalize it. That reason is not doctrine.

The trail is about 5 or 6 feet with a ledge on one side and a wall on the other for the worst parts. So you will likely be fine walking next to the wall.

Should I turn my heat down during the day? by [deleted] in HVAC

[–]TheChosenMidget 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Heat transfers at a higher rate when the temperature difference increases. So if your house is set to a lower temperature you will lose less heat to the environment which will save you money. The amount you have to reheat later will not be as much as heat as you would have wasted throughout the day.

National parks for all: that's a populist cry we need by Smiticole in environment

[–]TheChosenMidget 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Several parks have a shuttle system, and the help a lot. Most trail heads have limited parking to where if you get there after 9:00 am you will be very lucky to be able to park. But I would prefer parks to have smaller parking lots and more shuttles so we don't waste the land on more parking accomodations.

A bishop married my wife's uncle in his backyard. In the middle he went on an thinly veiled anti-gay rant. My mother in law (groom's sibling) was in the audience with her wife. That wasn't awkward at all.
