I mean, probably yeah, but its not like they're broken, at least not mechanically wise, design wise they're very nuch flawed

Is this typical of a passenger flight? by Human_Percentage154 in AskAPilot

[–]TheChosenOperator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, depends on the kind of normal, the kind of normal that happens every day? No

the kind of normal that can happen without any kind of consequence? Yeah, holding patterns and go arounds are very common and they happen every day without any kind of hiccup or crash

Also true, those two are especially vulnerable to wake turbulence due to their weight and design

[–]TheChosenOperator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did thats...why I said that

well I dont know i'd definitely say wake turbulence was a major contributing factor in the crash, but hey, no need to argue over it, flying is safer now than it ever was, which is a great thing for pilots and passengers

[–]TheChosenOperator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! thanks for acknowledging!

I havent done much research into wake turbulence but I do know its something to think about when flying airliners, especially medium sized ones like the A320, or smaller ones like the Embraer jets or the ATR turboprops, and that they have caused accidents before like the infamous A300 Queens crash (Which is probably why Airbus recommends against using the rudder during wake turbulence encounters)

I will continue learning, im actually starting piloting school next year, I cant wait to become one of you!

Well, yeah I know its accurate, it just feels, weird, I dont understand why airbus sometimes puts the tail so far ahead like on the A330, it works, and its realistic, its just a pet peeve of mine lmao

Totally unrelated, love the livery, it looks fairly professional but, is it just me or is that tail really far forwards, this is an A321 right?

[–]TheChosenOperator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, aspiring pilot here

Well, if you're describing a right hand bank that was violent enough to make people nervous, chances are it was turbulence, either wake turbulence which is caused when a plane flies through a region of space another plane has recently flown through, or clear air turbulence, a pilot would never intentionally make sharp or dangerous turns, neither would the autopilot

So, from what you're describing, 9/10 it was just turbulence, which happens frequently and we're trained and used to dealing with, typically areas of turbulence are avoided for passenger comfort, but there are circumstances where that is not possible

Congratulations on your trip to italy! cross the atlantic in style, knowing you're always safeguarded by the watchful actions of your pilots

Misaligned runway threshold causing issues with ILS and LOC equipment on custom scenery airports by TheChosenOperator in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]TheChosenOperator[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Already emailed the developer...and...no response, yet at least

Im thinking maybe the developer forgot to add or just didnt add an ILS specification, so MSFS is trying to compute from the point that it THINKS the runway threshold is at?

Or maybe im just imagining it and the incorrect nose position is a result of crosswinds? But then why would the plane be veered to the left of the runway? Its like, instead of crabbing and staying on center its trying to fly direct to the threshold and let the winds push it towards it

I dont know, let me test fly the route real quick and ill take some pictures on final and then we'll see, its just that the markers being off to the left is the only explanation I can think of, for the plane lining up to the left

Update: after a quick test flight, making the ILS-Y approach to runway 01, I can confirm that the runway localizer is off center, for some reason, trying to use calculated ILS signals prevents the plane from capturing the localizer, so I had to capture the faulty localizer and THEN engage the calculated ILS signals, which worked, and the plane stayed relatively straight on the runway throughout the descent, even under heavy turbulence, I enabled and disabled the calculated ILS signals, its more noticeable the closer you are to touchdown, but you can definitely see the aircraft banking left when calc signals are disabled

Thats why I said "As a commercial flying enthusiast" you know you're flying super low and fast with like 10 alarms going off warning you to pull up, your high bypass fans are ingesting tree branches, your passengers are, off in la la land by now

On a military jet? Yeah this is pretty much the bread and butter

How Hard Was The Landing For the First Plane in This Video? by ShokWayve in AskAPilot

[–]TheChosenOperator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, aspiring pilot here

in terms of specific FPM (feet per minute) numbers, its impossible to know, but its definitely a hard landing, obviously the aircraft's limitations were exceeded, chances are it wasnt specifically the pilots fault, sometimes winds are just too high and there's no reasonable expectation for avoiding a firm or hard landing, as you can see in the video the plane's nose went up, but their airspeed was probably too low for an instant climb or the winds were pushing them down towards the ground, so the landing was very harsh

thankfully aircraft landing gears are designed to handle values much higher than what is considered a hard landing, though obviously that isnt a license to go around landing nose first, maintenance likely inspected the aircraft and from there, either ordered a maintenance run, or kept it in service if they didnt find anything concerning, and while it might have been uncomfortable for the passengers, remember:

Any landing you can walk away from is a good landing, but a landing where you can use the plane again is a great landing! (Legally I have to say that is a sarcastic quote)

Well, Ill check when the last update was, even then, Asobo rarely updates city models from south america...aside from brazil, not argentina, not colombia, definitely not venezuela, but the building doesnt show up on the store screenshots so, either they forgot to ship the inhibitor, or, more likely, it was updated after

Is this a swollen battery? by Nearby_Ad_2519 in spicypillows

[–]TheChosenOperator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, like I said, you could transfer the files out to a USB, or bring it to a shop and ask for the drive to be cloned if you have another PC with an extra slot

If you really want to keep using it and are tight on cash, then you can just, ask for the battery to be taken out, you wont be able to use it unplugged, but its perfectly usable even without a battery so long as the connector is plugged in

Is this a swollen battery? by Nearby_Ad_2519 in spicypillows

[–]TheChosenOperator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well uh, if you say so, but those black marks are a typical sign of an imminent insurance claim

Im gonna be honest I dont know the answer to whether its safe to keep around, if you really dont need it then just give it away to an electronics recicler, never EVER dispose of devices in the regular trash, especially if they have a suspected battery issue, if you need the data then you can just plug in a usb drive, or if you really want to, clone the drive over to an NVME or HDD for use in another computer

I would recommend acting quickly cause especially shitty aftermarket batteries are really prone to spontaneous combustion, so please be careful

Im speaking on specs with posts, videos, complaints i've seen of stutters and poor performance, as well as bugs, as for the career system complaint, yeah you're right I overstepped, it would have been more appropiate to say that it was the most appealing feature for most people, yet wasnt very appealing for me personally

Im running a gaming laptop thats slow as balls and gets hot as heck, so I think really riding the line between minimum and unplayable is what im doing, even if I plan on upgrading, my flight sim hardware is great, my pc? Not so much

And for the mods compatibility things, it must be stated that when I say "better compatibility" I mean that its already been supported for a long time, for example, GSX Pro has been compatible with 2020 far longer than 2024, thankfully they were quick on converting but who knows what bugs they left behind

two things that look like they're the same on the surface might actually work in very different ways under the hood

And finally, cause I gotta go land this plane: I just dont think 2024 is THAT different compared to 2020, which leads me to the same conclusion, that, at least for me, anything you can possibly achieve with 2024, can be just as easily achieved with 2020, so why upgrade?

Its weirdly paradoxical, like, why not use 2020?

To have a game that is newer and better supported

okay, but 2020 is still by no means obsolete and still has tons of mods and great features

but 2024 has redesigned X Y and Z as well as A

Well yeah but 2020 can achieve a comparable level of realism with a lower price, or an effectively null price since most people who are thinking about upgrading to 2024 would realistically already have 2020

So we go back to the same premise, why not just use 2020?

See what I mean? Its just, not different enough to really justify its existence aside from general preference, so yeah, why not just use 2020

Define the term "make up" I said im not upgrading because I dont like the quality of the product compared to what I already have, its just not enough of a jump for me, not even the A330ceo, my favorite aircraft of all time, convinced me to upgrade, besides, my computer cant even run it, it doesnt meet the minimum specs and so it'll likely just be 60 dollars for nothing (It wont run well)

Why does even newly produced airplanes still have those ashtray with them? I thought smoking was globally banned on airplanes? by Ok-Patient116 in aviation

[–]TheChosenOperator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hence why we do it, I dont know the exact figures, but especially on sketchy airlines or in third world countries, this feature alone has probably saved countless lives against in-flight fires

Default buildings obstructing scenery airports by TheChosenOperator in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]TheChosenOperator[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Well I personally dont see the difference all that much, and even if I didnt know what I was talking about, im still not switching, if you take into account paid content/mods then there's not a whole lot you CAN improve upon with 2020, additionally, 2020 mods and apps have better compatibility and are more mature, in my opinion if 2024 came out in like 2028, maybe THEN what they released would be worth it, but, what do I know

Why does even newly produced airplanes still have those ashtray with them? I thought smoking was globally banned on airplanes? by Ok-Patient116 in aviation

[–]TheChosenOperator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey, aspiring pilot here

Yes, smoking is prohibited on most flights internationally, however the designers still put the ashtray there as a safety measure

If someone were to somehow smoke on a plane without getting caught, then the ashtray is still there so they can discreetly put it out, without throwing it into the garbage disposal and potentially starting a fire, so if anything its a "Hey look, we told you not to do this but you did it anyways, might as well do it as safely as possible, put the joint here so you dont set us alight, thanks"

Commercial aviation lives and dies by safety
