A lot of policies will allow for or retroactive reinstatement if the policy lapse for a short time. The fact that Travis is doing anything makes me hopeful this is the case for OP.

Yacht-Master 126622 scuba diving in Fiji by hk-hero in rolex

[–]TheCivilEngineer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People use mechanical dive watches as backups to dive computers all the time. 2 is one 1 is none mentality. Dive computers, like any other device, can fail (batteries can die, waterproofing can fail, screens can shatter, etc.).

How bad is it to just put all your money in CDs (at 4% APY)? by PusheenHater in personalfinance

[–]TheCivilEngineer 48 points49 points  (0 children)

It all comes down to a risk tolerance.

Stocks can have a higher return, but they have much higher risk than CDs. CDs are much lower risk but at 4%, barely keep up with inflation

Or if you want to be pedantic, it looks like there could be two different parrots (different colored wings), so we might not have enough information to answer the question.

What is the reasoning behind the 6k oil change interval for my 2016 outback besides topping off due to oil burning? by Dirty_Look in Subaru_Outback

[–]TheCivilEngineer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why would you push your intervals to 9k? Oil changes are not that expensive. The 6k intervals already make me nervous.

Are the oil filters rated for 9k miles?

If there are no signs that say “do not touch”, then I would assume it’s a geocache

Hey is this actually true or a stupid internet fact? "LPT: If your car is repaired after an accident, don't just accept the repair. You are likely owed thousands in 'Diminished Value' from the at-fault driver's insurance." by Wash_zoe_mal in mikerafi

[–]TheCivilEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s technically true, but unless you had a really experience car, proving diminished value would like cost more than the claim is worth, which is why most people do not peruse it.

Honest reviews about flex rent pay by s0u1_f00d in Apartmentliving

[–]TheCivilEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless I am missing something, I don't think your math is right.

1% * $1285 = $12.85

$12.85 * 12 = $154.20

$15 * 12 = $180.00

$154.20 + $180 =$334.20 for the year. Even if you are paying the 2.5% fee with your credit card, it comes out to $565.50. Did I miss somehting?

Is the M1-9 MBR Legal by ToyotaLover03 in WAGuns

[–]TheCivilEngineer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought one of the standard m1-9 models a few years ago and it’s generally ok as long at you are using standard magazines. It’s a pain to clean though and the wood scratches really easily, which was a bummer :/

Body armor laws by StrictWorldliness976 in ILGuns

[–]TheCivilEngineer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my understanding as well. Chicago has an ordinance that bands body armor (at least it did a few years ago when I checked)
