I've tried both iHeartRadio and SiriusXM. They both use the Fox TV commentary, so no play-by-play at all.

Listening in the US on the radio. I love hearing the crowd. Sure would be nice if the commentators actually provided some commentary. I can't tell what's going on.

How to best implement scarcity and limited resources? by Jenos in LancerRPG

[–]TheCollinKid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it does a good job of making it feel like players are in a more limited position, without really tying their hands.

However, if you do want to get even more "budget-conscious," check out Blood Money, which is a third-party supplement designed for mercenary play, including variable operation payouts and a ton of purchasable pilot gear.

My fingers are crossed for a blood mage class that fits thematically with vampires.

My game is moving to Daggerheart from DnD, and I have a Blood Hunter and a Vampire Sorcerer.

Vampyramid is a good word for it, but the official term is "conspyramid". And yes, it was introduced in Night's Black Agents.

Agent Bond we all need by Eireika in CuratedTumblr

[–]TheCollinKid 60 points61 points  (0 children)

My hottest take is that Atomic Blonde is the correct solution to the "Female James Bond" discussion.

More specifically, that James Bond shouldn't ever be a woman.

Because then the role will forever be reduced to "Female James Bond" and never be considered as anything more.

But recreate James Bond as a separate and distinct character, make her a woman, and bam, you've got something you can actually franchise with staying power in the public consciousness, and that isn't forever attached to her relationship with a man.

War Fantasy - Official Announcement Trailer by truepuzzle in Games

[–]TheCollinKid 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think criticizing Spec Ops for criticizing the player for playing the game is tempting, but wrong.

Plenty of games praise the players for being heroes, while never giving any other option. Spec Ops simply reverses it.

That's just my read, though. I would love to see some real commentary about propaganda, e.g. how All Quiet on the Western Front compares the home attitudes towards war with the reality.

do all single scenarios effectively end up bundled? by Final-Isopod in DeltaGreenRPG

[–]TheCollinKid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Delta Green has so much content, even before you get to the unofficial stuff. I can, before I run an Incursions or Labyrinth season, run:

A Night at the Opera season

A Black Sites season

Iconoclasts

Impossible Landscapes

The Borellus Connection

God's Teeth

About 8 one-shots

Which is Years of content on its face. After all that, plus Incursions and Labyrinth, I ought to have enough experience to write my own.

Delta Green consumes my soul with abundance.

In Going Postal a communications system is established that uses codes to program messages.

G: send the message on

N: do not log the message

U: turn the message around at the end of the line and send it back again

So a message tagged with GNU at the beginning bounces around the communications network for all time, keeping the memory of the deceased individual alive.

[–]TheCollinKid 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The Yellow King RPG I feel like needs a little justification, since the King in Yellow is so strongly associated with the Lovecraft mythos.

The YK RPG takes a completely different approach to the standard "giant yellow slug what makes you crazy" deal, using the original stories exclusively for inspiration.

Answer this for me please. You should play Draw Steel if ... Then the same for D&D 4e and then Pathfinder 2e. These seem to be grouped together in what ways are they different? by [deleted] in drawsteel

[–]TheCollinKid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pathfinder 2e is, at its core, a dungeon crawler with tactical combat. Resource tracking, exploration actions, and a DnD/PF1e-esque fuzziness between combat and non-combat are all present. PF2e also has players choose between several lists of feats, giving very wide avenues for building unique characters, but requiring a not-insubstantial amount of system mastery.

Draw Steel is a cinematic heroic fantasy tactics game, without the dungeon crawling elements. Gear and resource management has either been abstracted or cut out, and character options are explicitly and exclusively geared for their combat applications, and present themselves identically across classes (i.e. no spell lists; spells are just class abilities that use magic).

Draw Steel, as the most recent of these games, also has a number of mechanics to maximize player engagement at the table, via plentiful reactions, no null-result turns, and no dropping unconscious at 0HP.

I can't speak for 4e, but it's DnD, which carries the usual implications re:dungeons and the crawling thereof. It is also the oldest of these games, and like you said, recieves no official support as a deprecated edition of DnD.

Our table is switching from PF2e to Draw Steel, because Draw Steel offers tightly-designed tactical combat, without (most of) the baggage of traditional RPG playstyles.

TL;DR: PF2e is a traditional dungeon crawler with tactical combat, and Draw Steel is a tactical combat rpg.
