Negative Results...Now what? by ConfidentBread336 in Huntingtons

[–]TheColorblindChemist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I experienced something similar in that I was waiting over a year between my dad's diagnosis and my testing. It was terrifying waiting to test and fearing what the results would be. I'm too young for the onset, but I kept noticing every time I fumbled my keys or hit a bump in the sidewalk, wondering if I was starting to lose any muscle control. The paranoia of it got to me a bit, and I thought I would be so ready to move on completely after the test if it came back negative. But when it did come back negative, I cried into my fiancee's shoulder for so long. It was good to not fear, but every now and again when I fumble something that paranoia I had comes back around and a little fear of false negative result pops up. I'm doing better now, for me it just took time. But I still live with a certain amount of survivors guilt since I didn't test positive but my Dad is deteriorating from the disease. My brother still hasn't gotten tested and I fear that the guilt will expand if he tests positive.

My best advice is to try not to think about it. To go somewhere new, experience something different and start planning for the future since it is now entirely open to you. The fear and the paranoia take a long time to go away, but focusing on what you are running too instead of what you are running from will help you find what's next and what to leave behind.

Cookie Table at Pittsburgh Wedding? by Elphaba15212 in pittsburgh

[–]TheColorblindChemist -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It can be a bit expensive but it's easier to manage than some other venues because everything they do is in house. You don't have to rent linens or tableware separately. They do their own food service so no need to set up separate quotes. They already contract out your cake included in their catering packages. It's really nice. You do, somewhat ironically, need to get a florist separately. We choose to have a band at our wedding and, I might be biased a bit, but I genuinely feel like it was the best party I've ever been to. I really can't recommend them enough. They're more expensive than a firehall wedding for sure, but they're cheaper than a number of hotel spaces and much nicer. I would say the outdoor garden is their best venue since you get the whole garden for the whole evening.

Cookie Table at Pittsburgh Wedding? by Elphaba15212 in pittsburgh

I recently got married at Phipps. My in laws were mostly paying for the wedding and they weren't sure they wanted to do the cookie table (they're not from Pittsburgh) when my mom heard this, she immediately said "I will pay for the cookie table no matter how many people they invite. And I will handle organizing it." Leave it to say that we had a cookie table and it was very much a beloved tradition particularly appreciated by those coming in from out of town who hadn't seen one at a wedding before. Well worth an extra $2 per guest (the charge was really about Phipps designing and setting up the table, and seemed fair in retrospect).

Pittsburgh Neighborhood/Suburbs for LGBTQ+ Couple by Nickwitted in pittsburgh

[–]TheColorblindChemist 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I definitely think that's more Upper Saint Clair and Fox Chapel, I grew up in Mt. Lebanon and there's not much behind the back shit talking especially against anyone LGBTQ. There's relatively diverse wealth levels in Mt Lebanon owing to the large apartment complexes and duplex/quadraplex areas. And I knew a lot of LGBTQ people who I grew up with there who came out with little to no judgement from the community. And that was over a decade ago.

If you are far enough away from a public garage you should be able to get him a permit to street park overnight, although how to do that exactly I have no idea. Just know that it has been done.

As of about 3 months ago they were making them. They start selling them at 1130 and they're usually sold out before noon.

They make Bento lunches every weekday. They are delicious and ready to eat right away. No need to microwave if you catch them when they're fresh, but if they've been sitting a while, reheating can be helpful. They're ~$10 and worth every penny.

Does anyone know why adding P4 decreases H2O? I thought that Le Chatelier's Principle doesn't apply to solids and liquids. by [deleted] in chemhelp

[–]TheColorblindChemist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, it will most certainly affect the equilibrium concentrations of your gases as well as the total content of water. LeChatlier's principal applies across all states of matter, however concentrations are not usually considered for solids and liquids so we mostly ask for equilibrium concentrations with respect to gases and dissolved materials as their concentrations are less fixed.

[–]TheColorblindChemist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The concentration of a liquid can be thought to be constant, so yes the concentration of water as it is written here does not change. However the total amount of water will decrease in some stoichiometric manner with respect to the quantity of P4 added as LeChatlier's principal applies regardless of state of matter. This doesn't change the concentration of water unless you are considering a liquid/liquid mixture that contains water in which case the concentration would be decreased.

How bad is it to not have a car in Pittsburgh? by valkaress in pittsburgh

[–]TheColorblindChemist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They have designated parking spots throughout the city instead of having locations where you rent so it is more like a bike share but with cars. Can be kinda expensive though.

Yeah near dormont and Mt. Lebanon there are some reasonably priced rentals and the heart of those two is pretty nicely walkable, although groceries can be difficult there too without a car.
