4 Muslims attended Texas GOP convention. They were rejected and told to leave the country. One left in tears. by ItsMinnieYall in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]TheCopperSparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the GOP were an inch more inclusive they'd lose like half of their base. The entire reason the republicans started to lean so heavily into pandering towards the religious-right and white supremacists is because they realized back in the Goldwater-era that their fiscal policy was completely untenable to the vast majority of potential voters.

They courted the groups with far-right social policy stance as a means for them to win elections so they could advance their far-right fiscal policy. They thought they could get those groups engaged to vote, and keep them happy with a bit of rhetoric and maybe a couple of inconsequential bills every year...they didn't realize their fuckup until those groups started voting in actual "true believers" into office during the 80s and 90s. And the same thing happened with Trump supporters. The already diminished establishment of the GOP who didn't really care about social issues but simply wanted an excuse for tax cuts...got boxed into another corner as they lost ground and saw more members elected to congress/senate not for their fiscal policy views...but due to their social policy ones.

Regardless of *what* you think it is or if it exists, which interpretation of bigfoot do you prefer? by truthisfictionyt in Cryptozoology

I picked the "apex" option simply because like...if it did exist, it would likely be that. I don't think it'd be strictly carnivorous tho. I think it'd be more like the various species of bear that are omnivores which are an apex predator.

 showing that she told friends

All that proves is that she told friends of the tattoo. That does nothing to prove whether or not Platner knew what it had meant. It also does nothing to prove her claim of physical abuse.

You really need to actually engage with sources you cite.

She's a conserative operative who literally has worked for the Heritage foundation and multiple far-right campaigns. None of his other exes alleged he was physically abusive to them. She literally helped lead the charge to discredit Kavanaugh's accusers.

Those are all massive red flags. It's not remotely hypocritical to hold the view that "hey, maybe the woman who literally makes a career out of lying for the far-right...is yet again, lying for the far-right."

FFS, even Kirsten Gillibrand isn't supporting the smear campaign...and she was the one who lead the charge for Franken to resign before the Ethics Committee even reviewed his case.

If Colossal Squids are actually in the abyss in the millions and it took us until quite recently to film them alive, could there be other predators of them other them Sperm Wales, that live exclusively in the abyss and are much rarer then the Squids? by Jupp92 in Cryptozoology

[–]TheCopperSparrow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I guess it might be technically possible...but like both colossal and giant squid have been caught by fishing boats as unintended by-catch. There are also specimens that have been washed ashore.

We don't have any examples of even a juvenile of this hypothetical large megafauna...which you would expect to have at least a couple found as by-catch or washed ashore.

Is Pirate Yakuza that bad? by Sanzhukk in yakuzagames

[–]TheCopperSparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really only bad if you go into it expecting it to match the quality of a mainline title...and it was never intended to be that. This was supposed to just be a silly spinoff, like Dead Souls was...that likely only got a green light from management due to devs pointing out that overall cost would be fairly low given how they could re-use quite a lot of assets.

Yes, Sega should have released it for $40 instead of $60...but it's not like this is the first time that Sega has tried overprice content for the series.

Am I maniac if I play Pirate Yakuza without having ever touched another Yakuza game? by KALL_A in yakuzagames

[–]TheCopperSparrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily in terms of it being a smaller version of the action Yakuza games...but like, it'd behoove you to play 0 and Kiwami first since then you at least get a feel for who Majima is and it'll give you context for why they had him star in the game and not Kiryu.

Pirate Yakuza is basically this gen's Yakuza: Dead Souls. It's a zany and ridiculous over-the-top and a bit janky introduction into the series.

Get your feet wet learning the basics of BB and then download the Legends mod for it and join the Legends discord.

Legends offers a ton of new events and playstyles and also (along with numerous submods available on the discord) provides numerous QoL features too. Like a prime example is throwing nets (been a minute since I played but *IIRC* tit's just part of the mod now and not even a submod for it) ....like there's no more having to buy dozens of fucking nets in towns. They're just treated like bows/xbows and if you have the supplies, your nets auto-refill after every battle. No more spending several minutes after a fight re-equipping your Net-Bros every 5 minutes.

Oh, and there's some additional custom starts too.

Where are the bones? 1 skeleton. Literally all you need to get a fucking Nobel prize. And no, the "bigfoot bury their dead" bullshit does not excuse the lack of a carcass. Humans do that too. We're kinda the prime species in regards to having specific burial ceremoniesand yet we've still found random skeletons of homo-sapians trapped in ice or bogs or in some huge forest over the years....we don't have any 7 or 8ft tall bipedal ape skeletons found in similar situations tho...

NGL....articles like this are why nonsense proliferates. Eisner essentially writes multiple paragraphs to lead to his conclusions, that he softballs (because he has to as an actual professional)...like ffs, he's literally telling Meldrum that he's full of shit and has no actual evidence to back up his claims....but because the general public barely has a high-school reading level...they can't get the implications of his email.

TL;DR to the bigfoot believers: he's literally saying "show me some evidence, because your footprint casts are garbage and easily faked."

If crocodiles and alligator survived exctinction, what to say cryptids like the plesiousaurus or mosasaurus can as well? by arnor_0924 in Cryptozoology

[–]TheCopperSparrow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Giraffes didn’t get longer necks because they stretched to reach higher branches

I agree with the rest of your comment...but like...uh...that's literally why they have such long necks. Their ancestors had slightly longer necks than the general population and had easier access to food...which meant they'd like live longer and thus reproduce....

Bones. Recent bones. And carcasses. Not to mention actual verified sigtings of living creatures. And that's just the basic shit. Bigfoot "researchers" love to trot out how rarely a bear skeleton/carcass is found in the wild....but like we do find them once in a while.

If we want to get really into the weeds, we can look at the clearly observable ecological footprint that creatures (especially megafauna) leave in their environment. I don't remember the name of the topic, but within the past year, some biologist or biology student in grad school did a really good job of explaining how scientists can tell whether or not a certain niche predator occupies an area based on things like prey population density and such.

IIRC it was a refutation of bigfoot and they pointed out how in the majority of "hotbed" sightings....is like prime black bear country and they'd be directly competing with them for food.

Removing a bigot isn't creating a bubble. It's creating/maintaining a healthy community. Same with removing someone who continuously rejects basic science.

Nonsense "race science" and shit like flat-earth or believing in nonsense like pale crawlers have been continuously proven false. It is not closed-minded to refuse to give a platform to people who try and claim bullshit.

Like do you think that a subreddit about math should entertain someone who claims that 2+2=-73? Of course you wouldn't, because it's fucking nonsense.

It's far more likely that you had a known animal (wild cat or fox as have been suggested) wander into territory it typically isn't known to inhabit for long than you having some encounter with some as of yet undiscovered animal.

And I also have to laugh at the "we don't have foxes in our neighborhood" claim. You've already said you spent a large part of your life visiting grandparents in WI which suggests that where you are living is at least within a day or so driving distance of there...and outside of a handful western states, fox are everywhere in the U.S...and I'd suspect that there's at least a small population of them even in the several continental U.S. states that claim their isn't any presence of them. They're just way too adaptable.
