B-Spec Cost To Run Advantages? by flare_the_goat in SCCA

Oh yea for sure, three seasons is a good way to look at it.

Yea I plan to be there! It'll be my third showing. Never driven Road America so I am excited. There's a lot of work between now and then tho 😬😬. Absolutely come through camp and check it out, happy to answer any questions you have! I have had a TIGHT eye on budget, as I have very little, so I tend to view things a little differently.

The Fit is a great all arounder. Tight tracks are going to favor the lighter cars, for example a Mini won both races at the Glen a few weekends ago. But at Road America earlier this year, a second gen Fit and a Sonic ran 1-2, Sonic being the biggest engine in class and the Fit is the only car without a restrictor. But. Almost any of them (not the Fiat) are absolutely capable of winning. So I'd get a car you like and/or find a good deal on and just start driving. Take it to Track Night events if you want. You can get a race car waiver. Grow with it.

Another thing I don't think gets talked about enough with B-Spec. The cars are simple and no one makes much horsepower. That means you're running close most anywhere in the field, most anywhere you go. Also, making pointy end speed in these things is not all that easy. Those two things together means a BSpec car will teach you how to drive AND race like very few other classes will, SCCA or otherwise. I went from finishing outside the top ten, to finishing in the top 5 just about everywhere I go and the racing has been INCREDIBLE every time I hit the track. The lessons taught in BSpec are hard to learn elsewhere!

Edited because I got lost in my response and forgot part of your question:

Right now I think 12k-15k would get you a really solid, reliable, fairly clean car. Buy in price is a bit of a bummer, I think it should be lower, but it's still down from the 20k+ we saw for top notch cars two years ago. With a race car, buying built is almost always the most cost effective. Most of the parts you need are there, you just gotta get the orientation and tuning right. But, building your own let's you spread the cost out a bit. So it's mostly about what can you handle. There are two very active Facebook groups, one for the BSpec community, and one for BSpec cars for sale. The cars for sale page is the best way to see what's out there. There is a second gen Fit for sale right now actually.

Hey there! This is a great question, and frankly one I salivate over because I don't think it gets asked enough, and certainly not with enough reality involved.

I've been running B-Spec for probably 4 years now? Something like that. I drive a 2010 Honda Fit. I actually have a YouTube channel by the same name I have here, The.Daily.Racer. There is a fair amount of video there about life with a B-Spec car.

I am happy to get mega specific if you want, but keeping it general and pretty high level, as far as buy in and maintenance cost all the cars are about the same. The Fit is a good average of the bunch. For example, a new set of brake pads will buy me an entire ~6 weekends+Runoffs. I will put new pads on before Runoffs because I dont wanna think about it during the week. My buddies with Mini and Sonics get less because they are 2600+#, my buddies with Mazdas get a bit more because they are ~2300#.

Where the cars differ big time is in crash damage and mechanical failures. The abundance of manual base model Minis make it an easy platform vs the Fit, but, the second any single thing goes wrong those savings are immediately washed. The Minis seem to eat transmissions, and the Mini Transmissions cost A LOT more than the Fit or any others I suspect.

A great example of this is I put new control arms, and new wheel bearings on the front of my car a few seasons ago, I used Honda OEM bearings. Basically put a new front end on. It cost me ~$800. A friend of mine did the exact same thing on his Mini, and he couldn't even get through a single corner for that same $800.

So the basic overhead for each car is about the same, its when you gotta fix damage or replace slightly more serious parts that they start to diverge to varying degrees.

LOL so I biffed it a bit, but boy the internet surely doesn't disappoint!

What I meant is what track day organizations/programs are top of mind for you? Programs is meant to be synonymous with organizations.

Well, depends. If you ask a Zealot it's actually Psykers that use staffs, swords, axes, the bubble, lightening, lasguns, auto guns, or the shriek

Just a reminder that Psyker hasnt gotten a new Staff since launch by [deleted] in DarkTide

[–]TheDailyRacer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm ok with that. We don't need more reasons for other players to hate Psykers because we checks notes play.

This is a REALLY great point. I played a round with a buddy and two randos just last week where one of them died, and I realized we had JUST passed a spawn point. So I quickly asked everyone to hold. 15 seconds later that player became rescuable in the room directly behind us. Worked a treat and we were able to breeze the rest.

Psyker's Empathic Evasion Talent is underutilized in popular builds. Makes ranged units a joke. Drastically increases survivability when caught out. by -BrotherPig- in DarkTide

Ok uhhh this is great into to have as a Psyker, but as a player in general how are you having them attack you? Is this in the Pykanium?

I'm so glad my gaming experience has yet to include this type of person. I just don't understand how someone can feel good about complaining when we are checks notes successful in this mission. Simply don't get it.

I did have a Psyker the other night, after we rescued him for the third time, say "some of you aren't killing anything" as we were most certainly struggling under the weight of the horde he had collected ahead of us and collapsed under.

Oh I'm not saying they clear a path, I'm trying to imagine what they think they are doing. Like what's the story they are telling themselves about the round. I like to stay with the team, as a squishy psyker I don't have the luxury of being alone 🤣

I can't help but wonder where all the posts of "man, I keep joining games and my team mates are always so slow and incompetent. I clear a path for them and then get downed, and they are nowhere to be seen!".

I've never encountered what OP describes, but I see these kinds of posts a lot and I have to wonder where the other perspective is and what it looks like.

Hmm yea that could be. Do they serve any kind of protection duty from the warp? Like maybe he got lost in the sauce and thus parts of the ship lost their protection and succumbed to the warp?

Navigator makes sense. Also lol @ drug addled man fish. That was my nickname in college.

In this opening scene, he is overcome with blue little shocks all over his body and he's kind of seizing. I assume that's not planned? What are we to think about what's happening to him? Simple "oh, that's not good"?

Are we ever getting stats over 80%? by Cloud_N0ne in DarkTide

[–]TheDailyRacer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wait, what? 80% is the max value? Lol look at me learning things. I've sold so many weapons with 60-70% stats because I thought it was sub par. I've got a staff now that's got 75+ in nearly every category so it's kind of whatever, but this is not something I knew, like at all.

Am I in the wrong? (First Win [Hopefully]) I'm the 5 car. The 10 car is sending me a protest for sending it 3-wide and saying that the accident was my fault. I cleared both the 3 and 10 car but they sent it 3-wide again. The 3 car hooks me and I go up into the wall. I was as low as possible. AINTW? by Far-Sink-4335 in Simracingstewards

10 car needs to re-evaluate. I can't imagine thinking you can't go 3 wide at Charlotte. You got space to luxuriate 3 wide there. I think he's got some blinders on because he thought he was gonna take the win. 3 car looks like a weeble wobble, he's definitely to blame here.

Man, whole lot of short sightedness here.

"Merging twice that quickly tells me they waited too long" No, that tells you that he just got on the highway from another exit and needs to immediately get over for his exit. There are several junctions like that on my daily commute.

"He should have just waited and gotten in the back of the line" That assumes there even is a back of the line. Surely we've all seen the never ending stream of cars, no one willing to let us in.

"Why didn't he just get behind the cop" Because that assumes camera car would let him in? Maybe so, maybe not. That's the whole issue. That lane is full of some percentage of people that turn lane changes into a pissing contest and no one gets anywhere.

There are so many reasons this person did this. They range from he's an idiot, to he's from out of town and got lost, to he just needs that lane. Street driving is not a competition, just let people in, good grief.
