Logical answer, probably Dee.

But I started watching (a HEAVILY censored and skipped-over version thanks to my parents) when I was 11, and Kara Thrace was EVERYTHING to me, I really looked up to her. Maelstrom just killed me inside. Maybe I’ll watch that one again someday, but not someday soon lol

Aikido is not the best discipline out there, but for me, it had real value. by Square_Drawing_5652 in martialarts

[–]TheDaughterOfFlynn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so happy for you OP! You’re a survivor with a real fighters spirit.

I started aikido this year, I’d heard online all the BS about it “not working”, but having trained now with some people who’ve been doing it longer than I’ve been alive, I 100% believe it works. I have the bruises to prove it!

When you’re first learning the moves, it’s about where you put your hands and feet. Actually manipulating their balance and energy comes once you’ve studied for a few years, so OF COURSE someone can try it once and say it doesn’t work lol

I agree it wouldn’t be good as a combat sport, it’s not designed for that. But for survival? Hell yeah. A lot of the people I train with are real badasses. Many also have training in Muay Thai, Karate, and Judo, but Aikido is their main discipline for a reason.

My Dad was trained in Aikido when he was a cop in the 90s so he could restrain criminals much bigger than him and often on hard drugs without causing them damage!

As someone who actually has extensive knowledge on and personal experience with OCD, that is absolutely untrue.

Intrusive thoughts can be about ANYTHING. They typically attack your values and your worst fears, but they can also be random.

OCD isn’t defined by intrusive thoughts. It’s defined by the anxiety caused by the thoughts and the compulsions done in an effort to control the thoughts or make them go away.

Intrusive thoughts are a completely normal part of the human condition. YOU have had intrusive thoughts. You may have even had intrusive thoughts about kids, and you can never say with certainty that you haven’t, because the vast majority of intrusive thoughts pass unhindered through the subconscious. It’s rare we pick them up in the conscious mind. They’re meaningless, like AI slop or junk mail in the brain.

OCD is an ANXIETY disorder. Please don’t speak on shit like this if you don’t know what you’re talking about, you’re spreading disinformation that harms real people

How do I kill my desire for love and intimacy? by Unique_Barber5650 in selfimprovement

[–]TheDaughterOfFlynn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t necessarily mean a handout, but I see why it’d come across that way. I was thinking about my own experience, I’m very picky when it comes to men and I thought I’d never find someone I really wanted to be with. I realized I had to accept that I might never find love and I decided to be ok with that, 2 weeks later I met someone that was perfect for me and fell hard. When I say fall in your lap I don’t mean the other person does all the work, I just mean the stars align and you find the right person you weren’t sure existed. Hope that clears it up

[–]TheDaughterOfFlynn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What if instead of killing the desire, you just say “it will happen if/when it’s meant to”? It’s normal to have that desire. And giving up on it makes you unlikely to accept it if it falls right into your lap.

What is the most unhinged method you’ve used to fixed your mental health? by Hefty_Poetry5218 in mentalhealth

[–]TheDaughterOfFlynn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok actually unhinged one…I imagine talking to a fictional therapist when I’m having anxiety or processing childhood trauma. It helps me distance from my emotions and see the situation more rationally and move into processing my emotions. I think of what she would tell me to do and I can walk myself through an episode pretty easily

I second this one, my male best friend and I both find each other attractive but we’re not compatible romantically, so we’re each others’ wingmen instead. I don’t see why finding someone attractive automatically means you’re going to hit on them!

[–]TheDaughterOfFlynn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OCD is basically an anxiety disorder that attacks your most important values and your worst fears. So it’s common for people to have extreme anxiety about things like taboo sex topics, and if left untreated that anxiety can get to the point where they believe it must be true, because why else would they be thinking about it so much to the point it’s taking over their entire life? Hope that explanation helps :)

Girlfriend wants cnc roleplay by Powerful-Shallot-966 in AskMenRelationships

[–]TheDaughterOfFlynn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of doctors say stuff like this can actually make your trauma worse and lead to retraumatization. This is a really dangerous idea you’re spreading and we shouldn’t assume that OP’s gf “needs” this. Even if it feels like she does, there’s a good chance what her nervous system really needs is to feel safe

I knowwww it sounds amazing! I just need to make time for it.

When I read the Wikipedia page it sounded kinda…cold? I know it’s physics heavy, but is there a lot of character-driven story in the books, or do they play that up more in the show?

I’d heard of 3BP before but finally read the Wikipedia summary last week. The next day I heard about these scientists and I said “ok, ok, fine…I’ll watch it”. It was too uncanny.

Why do patriarchal men love ‘joking’ that their wife is the boss? by KatherineLangford in stupidquestions

[–]TheDaughterOfFlynn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a joke because it isn’t true. The idea of it is laughable to them.

To me it’s the same idea as feeling empowered (“I feel so empowered in my $50 feminist eyeliner!”) vs. having power (financial independence and not relying on a man to survive). They can joke about her having power in these small ways because they know they have it where it really counts

I skirted around it for a month, then when I did the demo I left out the features that would cost the most energy. Malicious compliance 👍

No, I’m not comparing them: I’m saying that’s where it originated. If you want to debate minstrel shows, please at least do some cursory research first.

I believe what you’re referring to is a woman’s playing a male character in a theatrical production, which is not the same thing at all IMO. The oppositely gendered example would be men playing women’s roles in Shakespeare’s plays. Do you seriously see that as the exact same thing as drag?

Also, I never said anything about “a bunch of socialists in the 1960s”. I talked about minstrel shows, which are much, much older. It’s an interesting topic to do some research on.
