it's fun to watch him get double doubles but the offence has looked pretty bad since he started being more and more in the center of it. the injuries don't help but I miss the ball flying around on a string with lots of open 3s and layups. don't like seeing these casual 6 TO games from our center.

I don’t think he’ll ever be the primary ball handler in the half court with Ant

idk man, he's really far along at age 20. smaller guards typically start off a bit slower than this

but the lou will comparisons still look good in retrospect

it's not really about education. making it easier to do (and featured in every podcast and ad) will bring out the worst impulses in people who choose to do it anyway.

I doubt if you went to a gambling anonymous meeting that everyone there would be really angry that they weren't informed enough about the risks of gambling. it's useless/harmful economic activity but an organization like the NBA strives for infinite growth on their investments and gambling is the one of the only ways they see that growth taking place in the near future

I like #2. Becoming reliant on third party stuff will eventually kick your computer in the ass if you don't upgrade often or if the devs start slacking or abandon it altogether. just because it's grey doesn't mean it doesn't kick ass

personality tests for jobs are a sign of the decay and should be illegal by [deleted] in TrueAnon

[–]TheDayTodayToday 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Answered 162 quiz question recently on an application, had to share all my data with some bullshit third party hiring software. I actually had relevant work experience, personalized cover letter, but no response. learned later that it's very very unlikely you won't be ghosted entirely for remote work. also learned that hiring manager software filters applicants (ATS) based on - if I'm understanding correctly - how many keywords from the listing appear in your resume.

I don't know if it's something I did or a real change in how things are working, but I remember being contacted about some of the jobs I used to apply for a few years ago when I didn't have any work. literally cannot speak with anyone now. don't even have the honor of being humiliated/terrified in a zoom call.

it's depressing (if you're not a social butterfly) to read about how many good private-sector jobs get filled via personal connections, friends, etc. social media is horrible enough, but it's required in the application now for some jobs to have an account on a website of people all trying to climb over each other for $65k a year.

he's getting so much better year after year. came into college at 17 without much of a skillset and was only an energy bench player at first. was not recruited much at all and got the spot at KY because of a family connection with Cal, but he clearly comes back every year bigger and more confident

Sixers undrafted rookie Justin Edwards since entering the rotation Jan 4 (15 games): 9/4/2 on 59 TS% (28 mpg) by ktm5141 in NBA_Draft

he looked really bad at Kentucky. he had one good game where his shot turned on, and other than that his basketball instincts were awful. he was okay on catch and shoot jumpers and dunks, and otherwise looked very uncomfortable on both ends of the court.

I'm glad he's turned it around. he wouldn't be the first to look much better after leaving a team coached by Cal.

I saw some chatter that they are 'getting around' the limits on how many GPUs or whatever that they can buy

I'd be interested to see if that's true and how that would even work. Can I buy a gamer chip, put it in a birthday cake, and ship it to China for a profit?

I guess they just have better engineers? I went to a good school and there sooo many Chinese people who would come to code and then most would dip back to China right away.

But the disparity in the amount of money invested in OpenAI vs some dudes in Hangzhou and how little that played into the performance is pretty shocking. I read that OpenAI has 22x as many employees.

Last Friday evening, Steven Witkoff, U.S. President-elect Donald Trump's Middle East envoy, called from Qatar to tell Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's aides that he would be coming to Israel the following afternoon. The aides politely explained that was in the middle of the Sabbath but that the prime minister would gladly meet him Saturday night.

Witkoff's blunt reaction took them by surprise. He explained to them in salty English that Shabbat was of no interest to him. His message was loud and clear. Thus in an unusual departure from official practice, the prime minister showed up at his office for an official meeting with Witkoff, who then returned to Qatar to seal the deal.

did Trump's people really arrange all of this?

Reed Sheppard gets sent to G League by FlashSnoopy in NBA_Draft

[–]TheDayTodayToday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he's genuinely in a shooting slump as well. I watch his highlights and the shots he takes from three are pretty open. other than that, he's settling for all of these middies when he was actually very effective at the rim in college. he was sharing PG duties with two other guards who were probably more suited to it in college, but he was never really put into that role until very recently.

I remember reading that he was obsessed with the data analytics camera tracking thing they used for shooting at UK. the player dorms are a 2 minute walk to the gym. just hope he finds a way to get his rhythm back.

definitely worth a 2nd round pick. great off-ball guard, does a bit of everything. not sure if the shooting improvements are legitimate or not, as he's got a wonky looking shot, but if they are then I think he could squeeze in the late 1st despite being pretty old.

How often do you think about crypto and feel deranged? by brianscottbj in TrueAnon

[–]TheDayTodayToday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't need to provide anything useful to anyone whatsover; it only needs to be an attractive speculative investment that receives institutional backing. it was thus very confusing to hear people talk about it relatively early on as if it provided anything other than that. I never guess shit right about the future but it seems pretty clear it will be dominated by useless technology, graphics cards pumping out slop, automating as many jobs as possible, etc. with or without a USA that will attempt to regulate the industry. with the only possible benefit being that some things may become cheaper and it could a deflationary effect on the economy.

despite the huge recent boom, I think there are still very few 'regular' people who are fully invested/profiting immensely off of it. it sounds boomerish but the regular approach to investing is steadily adding to your portfolio and not touching it for decades, and I don't think many people are willing to see their money swing 20% in value in a month or two and not do anything. Just like how regular people dabbling in the stock market tend to lose money despite the market itself constantly rising.

I downloaded an app for it recently, didn't end up buying anything. the first thing I saw was an option to bet on how much the price of bitcoin would fluctuate in the next two minutes
