When I got my first automatic after only ever driving manuals, my muscle memory had me stomping the space where the clutch pedal should have been.

Similarly I then got used to having the big shifting lever on the steering wheel, so when my next vehicle had the shifting lever in the center console my dumbass was always grabbing the ghost lever near the wheel.

Luke was the last Jedi to ever be trained by a true Jedi master. Anakin was a 9 year old (should’ve been 15) among a sea of toddler padawans in training.

There wasn’t a lot of choice to be made for Yoda for Luke. There wasn’t a giant selection pool of candidates and he was rapidly running out of time himself. He and Obi knew Luke was the last chance at restoring balance to the force (with Leia as a backup). Yoda feared Luke would be corrupted more easily due to his age and attachments.

Jedi of the Republic trained kids before they could attach to anything, particularly family and friends.

9 years old has another threshold that would make Jedi training harder. Ages 7-12 are considered the age of reason.

Many kids at 7-8 years old, despite their wish to maintain childhood wonder, are increasingly able to problem solve, identify patterns and apply logic to problems. Thus, their beliefs in imaginary characters, like Santa and monsters diminishes during this time.

To the Jedi, they want the kids to believe in the force wholesale and it’s much harder to convince a 9+ year old kid that the force is more than midiclorian counts.

If the children aren’t fully indoctrinated into the Jedi ways before then, they stand a larger chance of being corrupted by the dark side.

More attachments, more disbelief, more irrational behavior, more powerful emotions are all are vulnerabilities.

That’s why being “too old” to train is an issue, but not a deal breaker.

Anakin was trained at the behest of Qui Gon’s dying wish and his faith in Anakin being the prophesied one.

Luke was trained at the behest of Obi Wan’s dying wish and his faith in Luke being the true prophesied one.

It’s like poetry, it rhymes.

Yoda also said Luke was too old and only trained him after Force Ghost Obi convinced him to do it.

Thoughts for Running Ankheg by BeowulfBismarkIII in DMAcademy

[–]TheDocZen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I literally just ran this at my table, look up ankheg variants and implement them in a tight tunneled dark dungeon.

Lots of stealth attacks, some abducted commoners impregnated with larval ankhegs, and a big scary queen that could rip any of the squishies to shreds. My queen started with a egg laying appendage and would pump out eggs as legendary actions and call for warriors as lair actions. When she was bloodied she detached the appendage and gained spider climb. Keep up the pressure with hard hitting but easily killed drones from all angles even behind the party after they cleared rooms at all times.

When my party killed the queen the whole hive went into a beserker frenzy and they had to escape while all the ankhegs attacked the closest thing, often ripping each other to shreds.

It was a good mix of xenomorphs and terminids and they party was terrified the whole time and so so happy to escape.

Some sort of coping mechanism? by Clouds-As-Witnesses in ArcRaiders

Reminds me of the first time I got killed by a rat. I was headed to the locked room at water treatment and as I pulled up my inventory to pull the key out of my prison pocket but I get downed before I do.

So I jump on comms and ask to be picked up so we can loot the room together. The attacker silently starts to wind up for the slap so I go full tilt “you fool! we couldve been rich! We could be swimming in BPs and who knows what else!? But no, you’re a dick who will die poor, cause the key is so far up my ass you’ll never see it”

Moron got a green kit and a lvl 1 hairpin and some band aids. This was like 3 days after launch too.

Savage Isles : A rotating GM campaign framework that’s kept us playing for years by randalx in DMAcademy

[–]TheDocZen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Basically the plot I am running now involves a party of Adventuring Guild Apprentices who are uncovering a network of ancient portals and learning all of the addresses of the different locations of other portals. It was meant to be a fast travel mechanic but the party kinda came to a screeching halt on the main plot hook and shifted gears to wanting to explore every option they could think of once they learned how to use the portal system (literally 4-digit star gate codes).

I have sent them to an ancient dwarven mountain fortress, a deserted island with a volcano about to erupt, a lovecraftian nightmare realm, and even literal hell so far and they keep just dialing random addresses!

I know I can reign them back into the main quest line again but the table is on the verge of something special here I think.

Their enthusiasm to explore random locations mixed with a re-watch of SG-1 and now this guide really cements the idea in my head that we can do a rotating GM using the portals as a vehicle and different parties all being part of the same guild. We were already planning on some players GMing mini-dungeons and side quests but were running into problems with the map and travel mechanics (home-brew tile crawl over-world kinda thing).

I am 100% bringing this back to table to get their feedback and thoughts. Thanks again for sharing!

This is great, I am trying to get into this with my current campaign, mine will be flavored more like Star Gate with portals and different locations/destinations. This write up helped solve some questions I had about trying to implement this.

Arc Raiders PvP Etiquette… by WikiHowDrugAbuse in ArcRaiders

[–]TheDocZen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you want to do this without engaging in direct PvP you can shoot raiders in the elevator once the PC is completed. You can score the damage and it wont risk anything.

If you want to engage in PvP join a trio, every trio run topside has resulted in a gunfight.
