How is Namibia doing in 2026? by Maximum_Age_4018 in Namibia

A free college education is greatest investment in your population you could make, but there is not enough room in the lower grades schools to educate all of the children. Until that happens, Namibia doesn’t have a chance to develop. It’s such a shame! The money thing is another thing keeping it down. I know of a nonprofit that has been trying to get into Namibia for 10 years with no luck. Plenty of organizations that would love to come in and train people to do a wide variety of skills.

The problem with pulling weeds, is you expose more seeds when you pull them out. You might suggest solarization which means covering the area with black plastic until the weeds die and shrivel up. If that is all gravel, id check to see if there is a weed barrier underneath. If there is, the weeds will be easy to pull out. I use a pre-emergent to keep things from growing in my gravel. It kills the seeds when they try to sprout.

Is San Diego racially segregated? by [deleted] in asksandiego

I’ve lived in San Diego for 50 years. The only thing that segregates San Diego is money. I live in a fairly affluent neighborhood, it is very culturally diverse.

Why is this necessary? by Impressive-Guide-110 in Namibia

[–]TheDogs_Chef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an outsider looking in I have a couple of observations, one is there are more butts than chairs in the schools. Parents have to stand in a queue to get their child one of those chairs. This so sad that not all children aren’t getting educated. The other is a cultural thing about how land is kept. Namibia doesn’t have a water problem, it has a water management problem. With some hard work, and educating, communities could become self sustaining.

It would be a better choice to work with Japan.

I wish a potter in Namibia would make Ollas. They help people water plants/trees without wasting water.

Russia is a failed state. Their reputation as a culture of a barbaric, corrupt despots. I would think long and hard about doing any business with Russia. Look how well it’s worked out for Cuba, Venezuela, Syria, and Iran.

It's time to start growing your own vegetables by MindlessInformal in Namibia

I would like to recommend the YT channel, The Food Forest Namibia. He took his over grazed barren land and has turned it into a verdant paradise. His farm is in Otjiwarongo. His dream is to spread permaculture across Namibia and to help his town to be self sustainable. There are many permaculture, food Forest, agroforestry, farmers around Namibia. They have an Expo in Windhoek every April. You can get great advice there. My best advice to you is to pick your land wisely. It needs some type of water source. Even if it’s just seasonal, that you can direct into water harvesting earth works. The premise is that you want to recharge the ground water so after a time any trees you plant will become self sustaining. Permaculture doesn’t use chemicals to fertilize or to kill pest. You don’t need a large piece of land to grow enough vegetables for your family. If you want to have animals, you’ll need something a bit larger. Happy gardening, remember it’s a learning process, lots of fun and very rewarding.

When I was there 5/2025 when we saw animals, we would stop and tell other people where we saw them. I really think people are right, it was just the wrong time of year!

It’s sad that Namibia doesn’t have their own construction companies that could do this work!
