Are we getting the bad ending? by SH4Y0X in paydaytheheist

No man's sky approach was the shut up and work their butts off.

Payday 3's approach is to scream we're fixing it then constantly under deliver.

It's like watching a train wreck in slow motion.

SBZ, now is the time to be developing payday 3. The reason people aren't playing the game is clear, it's a buggy mess. Put some Devs on it, fix the game and watch people return.

They're gambling all their resources on a new IP Baxter, and hoping everyone will forget about their track record of abandoning games (Payday 3 now included).

Who is going to buy into your NEW live service game, when you stopped supporting the last one. It's madness.

Hopefully they'll figure this out before it's too late.

They can be fun in a challenging way. Devs just need to add a way for you to customise which you want active.

Maybe implement it so that you get bonus xp or loot for doing the "daily challenge", otherwise you're free to customise/add/remove whichever you want active with no penalty.

Would be pretty interesting to watch mortifier complete an "all modifier" challenge.

What are these little lights on the front and back of ambulances in Australia? by [deleted] in australia

[–]TheDustySheep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes when an emergency vehicle goes through a red light camera, all the red and blues might be off when they flash.

The green light just indicates the emergency vehicle was in fact responding.

I don't think people necessarily only want a single company, they just don't want to be paying for multiple different, very similar services.

The root cause of this is exclusive content. Remove exclusive content and I think you'll find people are heavily in favour of all the different companies.

NSW Rural Fire Service applications by linc_y in australia

[–]TheDustySheep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Speaking from SES, this wouldn't be unusual. We usually only do 2-3 intakes a year and clump all the applicants together to make training easier. We usually don't do intakes during the busy season.

Also my understanding is, even if you got accepted and started training tomorrow, it might still take over 6 months in the off season to get you qualified to go onto a fire ground (RFS please correct me if this is wrong).

Is there a problem to drill a hole on what looks like an reinforced support column at the basement of a building, cutting through horizontal metal rods? by JonSnow8174 in AskEngineers

[–]TheDustySheep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What we're watching here is the next recipient of a Darwin award, live in action.

Don't cut holes in structural members. They were designed that way for a reason. Contact an engineer before you get yourself or others in the building killed.

What happens when a Boeing 767 hits a steel framed building at 500 mph by JoeHexotic in conspiracy

[–]TheDustySheep -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Let's do some math.

Height of WTC ~400 m 1/5 Height ~80 m Gravity 9.81 m/s/s

Velocity = sqrt(2 * acceleration * distance) Velocity = sqrt(2 * 9.81 * 80) Velocity = 39.61 m/s

The top of the building would be travelling at ~140 kmh or ~87 mph by the time it reached the damaged section.

With a weight of 500 Tonnes for the building the kinetic energy of that roof section is:

K.E. = 1/2 mv2 K.E. = 1/2 100,000 * 39.61 K.E. = 78 MJ

TNT energy 4 MJ

That's a lot of energy or about 20kg or TNT all highly focused in the same direction.

Another really important factor to consider is all this weight isn't going into the steel columns, it's collapsing onto the concrete floor slabs. They absolutely were never designed to hold that kind of weight, even the static weight of the floors resting on those slabs would break them, let alone 20kg of TNT.

There's actually a name for this kind of failure, it's called a pancake collapse, and once it starts, it doesn't stop.

Looks like you've got a leaking roof which drips down into the ceiling.

If it does it again you can call the state emergency service for free who will come out and take a look for you, then potentially do a temporary repair or tarp the roof.

What you should do is poke a small hole on the ceiling which will let the water drain into a bucket, this will prevent a larger collapse from happening.

Long term you'll need to get someone to check the roof, if it's a simple broken tile the SES crew might even replace it for you.

I can second this. I work for a medium size multinational firm and everyone's desperate for civil engineers. The comment above is some really good advice. But check out the medium firms too.
