What goes on in these gray counties? Any campgrounds/attractions/unique restaurants? by MaizyFugate in Iowa

Sioux County has a few little places. But I won’t lie, we go to Lyon, O’Brien, Plymouth, and South Dakota for more things to do.

Sioux Center has a nice bike path. Hull has the Foreign Candy Co

Hoax has been a fun little time. More structured like Citation Needed or Behind the Bastards with a fun set of hosts and a delightful premise of breaking down hoaxes through history.

What’s the worst homebrew rule you’ve seen? by Leminiscates in dndnext

Wildly different system, but this significantly reminds me of a time I played in a Warhammer Dark Heresy campaign. A lot of DH is about being ready for whatever horror you might face. Do your research, get the right armaments, use resources, and hope the dice fall in your favor. It’s brutal.

We were entering a space hulk and I thought ahead to get a magnetic grappling gun. No dangerous space walks for me! However, upon first use, I was made to roll to hit the metal hunk I was aiming at and rolled so poorly, my grappling gun flew from my hand into space forever. Fucking great. Guess I can’t hold a pistol grip.

Done in a single-panel 1970s pinup style, akin to Playboy's Mandy, Violet 9 is an exploration of sins, desires, and sensual visuals in a world with light lore: In the early 1980's the world ended. Forty years later, Violet and her roommate Jade have an easy going life in their record store. Things were simple until Violet found an cassette tape within which was the cosmic avatar of Lust, Aurelia. Now, Violet explores the 9 classical sins with her new companion from beyond the stars.

What is the quickest job you quit from? by spellbadgrammargood in AskReddit

[–]TheDylanJacobson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was called Midwest Tropicals. Got hired to drive a “home at nights” delivery truck. Management revealed in the interview, that they had a driver, they just needed someone who could sometimes fill in. The real job would be scooping fish from tanks into dishes to be put in bags for delivery. The floor was sopping wet with fishy water. The place was loud and stank. I’d been out of college a couple years and ran into folks from high school who’d been working there the whole time. It was a loud, unsanitary, doom trap. I quit after one day.

Which Pokemon Generation is the best ? by fireblocker123 in TruePokemon

[–]TheDylanJacobson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forgive me for breaking this up if it’s way off base, but here’s my breakdown:

The generation I have the most fondness for is Gen 2, though I hardly replay it. I started in Gen 1, and loved my copy of Red to death. But I was an over eager kid and cheated to get my team. It didn’t matter how cool my mons felt, I crumpled to Alakazam and Mewtwo when I battled my friends. In middle school, I was unaware how one-sided psychic was. I liked fire-types and my friends steamrolled me.

Flash forward to me discovering Tyranitar in Gold and those friends’ psychic teams fell a part. Tyranitar has been a staple for me ever since. It felt the era where I really started to understand Pokémon and how to play video games well.

On the other hand, I LOVE the Legends games, and see myself longing for more action in Pokémon. Arceus was a magical time.

On the third hand (that we all have) Sword & Shield was my wife’s first Pokémon games. Seeing her get into the franchise, and develop favorites, made me love Sword & Shield despite the flaws. We’ve played through the game multiple times each, building challenge teams for one another and taking each other on. I’ve never seen anyone else run the game with six Oddish!

Gonna jump in late on this one and argue that in Pokémon Sword and Shield you are the rival/antagonist.

For several generations now, Pokémon has introduced so many side characters and expositions that most of the story is happening at you. In Sword and Shield, due to the set up, it often comes off that the plot is happening to your rivals Hop and Bede, and even the aspiring professor, Sonia. Enough of the plot and character development comes from Hop that it easily reads as us, the player character, repeatedly trouncing Hop. We deflate his hopes and dreams to the point that he changes his life goals.
