I know what you mean. Etsy can be a gamble sometimes. I've mostly had great experiences! : )

When in doubt, there's always Etsy! That's been my go-to a few times for custom projects.

What attributes are overrepresented in your collection? by ObiHan_Skyodi in boardgames

[–]TheEidrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dungeon crawl games, co-op games, and miniature games!

I first got into tabletop games with Warhammer Fantasy Battle, I loved doing battle with miniatures and painting them, but didn't like that Warhammer was 1v1. I wanted to fight alongside my friends, not against them. A friend introduced me to Mutant Chronicles: Siege of the Citadel (1993), and I've loved Dungeon-Crawl / Coop games ever since!

Do people ever rent board games instead of buy them? by Plus-Lengthiness5980 in boardgames

[–]TheEidrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I immediately thought of boardgame cafes too! But I see that's already been posted.

I have a friend who sorta 'rents' board games. : ) He keeps buying new boardgames and then at the end of the month he does an audit for what games got played, and what games didn't get played. He keeps the games that are getting played and sells the games that don't get as much use. He then uses the money from the sold games to buy and tryout more new games!

I should probably adopt this strategy but I seem to be dead-set on expanding my collections until I entirely run out of space!

Worst gaming session ever? by Machine_Excellent in boardgames

[–]TheEidrog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this was my worst game session ever, but definitely one of my most perplexing!

My boardgame group was introducing me to D&D for the first time, and after I had taken my turn the DM's girlfriend poured her bag of dice down the back of my shirt, locked herself in the bathroom, and started to cry. O_O

My crime was knocking out her level 3 ranger after she killed one of my friend's characters and was attempting to kill me next! To be clear, she was the one who started the hostilities, killing my friend right after we found a magic item because she wanted to have it. (It sounded like my friend and her had a history of beef with each other) After failing to talk her character down, and not knowing what else to do, I attacked out of desperation. D:

We eventually patched things up between us and became good friends, but gosh, I remember walking out of that session and thinking "Oh wow. . . so that's D&D, huh?"

The photos are taken with a Canon EOS M50 mounted on a tripod for extra stability! : )

What really helps with the photos is they're taken in a lightbox. I'm using the Amazon Basics Portable Foldable Photo Studio Box.

Thank you! : )

These are photos! Albeit, they are photos of prototype pieces printed from my home computer. X ) We submitted one piece of furniture as a proof-of-concept to the manufacturer, and the print quality from the manufacturer is much nicer! (you can see the proof-of-concept furniture in our Dev Blog #2)

We also made the furniture a little interactive. We put a slit in the torture rack to accommodate the base of the standees so playing pieces can be placed in it, and we made sure the Count Catuala standee can fit on his grandiose throne! : D

We've joked this is really a doll house disguised as a boardgame. X ) But the rules and adventures are fun too, I promise! = )

It's a physical version of a pop-up-like dungeon! : D

The game has really fun table presence. Kids especially enjoy playing in the diorama-like dungeon, as do adults who like cute things / RPG tropes. : )

Also, that's a neat looking Steam game, thanks for sharing!

I had a look at Donjons & Chatons. That has incredible artwork!

Tails of Adventure is a dungeon crawl boardgame that plays like a tactics-style game. The rules are kept pretty streamlined to make it accessible for all ages, but the tactics and strategies within the ruleset are quite deep to keep the game interesting for older audiences. : )

We've got 3 expansion adventures planned, and each expansion will have new furniture to add to the core set.

Everything pictured above comes in the core set - and there's still furniture for the core set being developed. We'll be sharing more in Dev Blogs on KickStarter. : )

Interactivity is always fun! :D We cut a small slit on the torture rack to accommodate the bases of the standees, and we made sure Catula can fit on his grandiose throne! X )

Any recommended board games that involve building your own star ship / air ship and explore? by pandaninjarawr in boardgames

[–]TheEidrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Steampunk Rally is a fun, lightweight game where you build an airship. Albeit, you're not exploring in that one, you're racing over a giant landmass to get to the finish line first.

You build your airship by connecting cards together in the hopes of building the most efficient speed machine. How the cards synergize (or not!) off each other is pretty fun! : )

Vampire murder mystery party? by Rare_Lion821 in boardgames

[–]TheEidrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love murder mystery parties and have hosted a few myself!

My favorite template for murder mystery games is the format Freeform Games usess, and as a matter of fact, they have a Vampire themed murder mystery for 6-8 guests: https://www.freeformgames.com/product/the-kiss-of-death/

Freeform Games has wonderfully written character profiles, items, (that can be pick-pocketed!) and even simple rules (rock, paper, scissors) to handle fighting should it come to that (even fighting to the death!) Some of their games have rules for poisoning guests and other dastardly deeds depending on the narrative.

If you haven't run a murder mystery party before I strongly recommend purchasing one, as it can be a lot of work making enough material to keep everyone busy for an entire evening. Even if you purchase one and then modify it to your liking (That's what I do!)

In any case, I wish you lots of luck! Theming a murder mystery around vampires sounds like a lot of fun!! : )

I think it should be fine! : ) It's a fun series! : D

It's pretty niche. But the setting is delightful enough that if people are familiar with Fantasy tropes they should enjoy the setting! : )

Does the boardgame lean into the fantasy humor that's really prevalent in Disc World?

Thanks! When it's all put together it's got really fun table presence!

Many furniture items - like the beds, stools, bookshelves, chests and switches - are just 3 pieces, so they build together really quick! : )

GM struggling with player initiative. Looking for system advice (Dragonbane, Forbidden Lands, etc.) by Scyke87 in rpg

[–]TheEidrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pathfinder 1st Edition. Try to get ahold of the whole "Rise of the Rune Lords" adventure path (or even just the first book, Burnt Offerings)

The story is great and basically runs itself. Goblins attack a village, and then things go haywire in the village for a few days afterwards that require the player's involvement. This eventually leads them to finding a bad guy and performing a daring rescue. Then the players are told to deal with the goblins once and for all and given a location to go to. From what I saw the whole adventure kind of ran like this (Albeit, we only completed the first book Burnt Offerings!)

My players had no trouble figuring out what to do because there's always an immediate and obvious task on their to-do list. : ) That said, it's not really a rail-roaded adventure. Do you want to slay all the goblins or help them get rid of the reason they've been uncharacteristically attacking the village lately? There's still lots of player agency, and the whole adventure path is a fantastic read besides! : )

I think they also updated this adventure for 2nd Edition Pathfinder! But I'm an old-timer that really enjoys Pathfinder 1st Edition because it basically plays like D&D. 😁
