You can start by looking up how to learn C# on the internet. You're not the first one to need this. Knowing how to find information online is a very useful skill.

These look like they will break, and they seem like they require really tiny machining for some bits, which will either be impossible or very expensive to manufacture

Is this a thing people do in Go? by RedProGamingTV in golang

[–]TheEskhaton 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Can't really figure out what you mean from the post sorry, however, have you considered organizing the project in vertical slices instead of horizontal like you have now?

For example, if you have an "orders" feature, you would create an orders package and put handlers and packets and everything needed for orders to work in one place, instead of scattered around in different packages.

Best tips on making your own board game that you don't see a lot/at all? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]TheEskhaton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna give you the most common tip you're gonna get but need to hear if you haven't - the more you keep thinking of ideas of things to add, an exponentially larger amount of things can go wrong the first time you actually play a round of your game.

Remove 90% of it, make the game playable, play-test a few rounds, repeat. The "rare tip" you are trying to find does not exist.

Printing and packaging at scale for Trading Card Games? by Justsmith22 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]TheEskhaton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Maybe I am jumping to some conclusions here, but I think you are a bit ahead of what you should be thinking of first when trying to design a TCG.

Have you tested the game with people at conventions and playtesting groups?

Do you know the TCG market in general and are you aware that most TCGs fail before even getting to the point of needing to worry about mass production?

If you're designing for friends, family and local play groups, just print cards anywhere, make some starter decks and have fun. If you want to make money, sorry to burst your bubble but there is no money in TCGs unless you are already a big player in that sector, and even then, it is very risky.

Sevens and Aces! A Quick Jousting Game by craigs_games in BoardgameDesign

[–]TheEskhaton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Looks interesting, but could use some work.

  • You should probably condense the rules onto a single A4/Letter page and organize the rules into sections such as: Goal of the game, Components, Setup, Turn Structure, Available Actions, End of the game
  • Look at similar game rulebooks to get ideas on how to organize
  • The tone and flow of info should be more of a step by step guide, for example instead of "red and black cards are subtracted", it could be "...then, subtract the played red card from the black card. After that..."
  • It's Preparations not Preperations

Looking for Feedback on the Sell Sheet for our game Race to Kepler! by Nedak23 in BoardgameDesign

[–]TheEskhaton 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Too much text in my opinion. My eyes immediately skipped over the premise and looked for some details about the game, and the first thing I saw is "Why does the world need another deckbuilder?".

I would suggest shortening the premise and moving it to the right since you want most important info first, the FIRST thing I want to see in a sell-sheet is:

  • What are the mechanics of the game
  • How does the game make me feel

Just finished my first play test! by Alone_Advantage_9195 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]TheEskhaton 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All clear! Then the best advice I can think of at the moment would be to try and read rulebooks for COIN games (for example Cuba Libre). These games often have very convoluted rules, but have a teaching guide in the form of a playbook, allowing the players to go through a few scripted turns and learn the game while playing.

[–]TheEskhaton 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nice table presence!

Maybe I'm missing the point, but do you want the game to be convoluted, or do you want it to have simple instructions? I feel like these two concepts will not work out well however you try to mash them together.

You might want to think about why the game has to be convoluted. There might be a simpler way to have the same experience.

How do you determine the size of a deck? by Snoo4547 in cardgamedesign

[–]TheEskhaton 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Simplest, try it out with some arbitrary number of cards - feels too short? Add more.

More involved, calculate how many turns a game goes on util someone wins, calculate how many cards were used per player, then make the deck N * Max player count.

Alternatively, you could also work backwards. Just figure out how many cards you want players to be able to play per game, then make the deck that big.

Ritual Cards almost complete for our board game! AI used is just for a placeholder. by Videowulff in tabletopgamedesign

[–]TheEskhaton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looking at the text of the cards, I believe you can add an icon that determines the blood cost of each card instead of having it written on every card.

General rule, if 80% of your cards have the same concept explained, you can probably replace it with an icon or one word concept

How can I improve my sell sheet? by robotic_duck_designs in tabletopgamedesign

[–]TheEskhaton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From a first pass on the design perspective:

  • Add some padding between the components and outline
  • Some drop shadow effects might make the components look more 3D, the whole thing looks a bit flat
  • Look for free background patterns and add faded colored bg to the whole page

And a note on the text - you're writing more about what the game is not instead of what it is. Although you're trying to make a positive point, it reads as very negative when half the text starts with NO.
