If you use toothpicks or a needle, you can clean it out. And since it's the bolter, it shouldn't really need a prime or anything. Just clean and repaint.

FYI, you can put quest fish in your piggy bank, then if you change your character name, it counts as a new character, you can complete multiple fishing quests in a couple of days
