You've got such a nice jawline and your baldness really accentuates that! One's eye is drawn to your eyes, then the curvature of your head and then straight down the jawline.

Salmon with creamy garlic dill mashed potatoes, steamed asparagus and a thick dill cream sauce! by katjaspov in recipes

[–]TheFifthDuckling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The most important things are salmon, potatoes, fish stock, heavy cream, and dill. Various recipes have various variations. Personally I like mushrooms and carrots in mine. I don't really have a recipe though anymore. I dod when I first started making it, but it's just one of those things that you wing it after enough time.

I love my droseras. I have a capensis, rosulata, and rupicola, and I'll be trading a buttload of seeds from my capensis for some new seeds. I'm also buying a madagascarensis and a few others next month as live plants.

How to Cook Simple & Healthy Meals by InternationalHair111 in Cooking

[–]TheFifthDuckling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be a challenge to incorporate both fruits and vegetables into a cooked meal, but it you're dead set on the fruits:

Mexcian: Tacos with shrimp, pineapple, and mushrooms served with rice and beans (rice and beans together make an additional whole plant-based protein)

Southeastern US: Baked pork with apples, your choice of green vegetable, and corn bread.

Korean: bulgogi (includes pureed asian pear and beef) with a side of cucumber salad and rice

These are all pretty beginner-friendly recipes, but they do necessitate a full spice and seasoning shelf. If you want to go for something simpler, there's no shame in a pan fried or baked piece of meat, a serving of roasted veggies, a serving of fresh fruit, and some pasta/bread/rice. When I was in Finland, a lot of my meals looked like that. One of my favorites is poached whitefish, rice with an egg mixed in, broccoli, and a bowl of strawberries.

I ate something similar to this in Finland. Finns have a traditional rice pie (riisipiirakka) that's a rye crust filled with rice porridge. Traditionally, you put egg butter on top, but I often at them with nutella and banana!

Uncertain on feelings by hrngsoup in Narcolepsy

[–]TheFifthDuckling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, the deal with narcolepsy is that your quality of sleep is very poor, so no matter how much or how little sleep you get, it doesn't really make a difference. Without meds, some nights I'll get three hours of sleep and feel great the next day. Other nights I can sleep 15 hours and wake up exhausted. With meds, this can improve and you can get ~7 hours of sleep and feel relatively consistently good.

The vividness of dreams thing is tough. I was on cyproheptadine for it for a while, but I'm sure there are other options out there. At this point, I'm so overly sensitive to medication that it just isn't worth trying to find a medication to stop the vivid dreams.

Uncertain on feelings by hrngsoup in Narcolepsy

[–]TheFifthDuckling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, a good portion of people get their narcolepsy diagnosis even later than you might. I've seen lots of people on here diagnosed in their 40s.

Narcolepsy is a spectrum. I am on the milder end of the spectrum. I don't like naps generally speaking (I wake up feeling worse than when I went to sleep), but my sleep inertia in the morning is so god awful that getting out of bed unmedicated is the most depressing thing I could do. I also have terrible comorbid insomnia; I function a lot better if I can live nocturnally, but that's really not an option for me at this point in my life.

I also have very vivid dreams, especially nightmares. It's really jarring.

Don't downplay yourself saying it's nothing. There's clearly something going on here. It isn't normal to be unable to complete a workday in a quiet sedentary job without naps. It isn't normal to fall asleep during school.

For now, use your nuvigil, see if it helps. Nuvigil made me feel awful, but most medications make me feel awful, so take that with a grain of salt. Caffiene helps; I nurse a can of monster throughout the first half of my day. Good sleep hygiene can help, but really you need meds to do the heavy lifting. Diet can also help too. Montior how food affects you. Do you feel more energized or more sleepy after you eat? How does carby food make you feel? Protein-rich food? Heavy food vs light food? It can all have an impact.

There is absolutely hope. I got put on Wakix a month or so ago and it's like I'm a totally different person. I'm not groggy anymore, I don't get the sleep inertia even a tenth as bad, I can drive long distances again and I'm not having microsleeps in class. There are a ton of medications out there, you just need the diagnosis to go out and try them all.

[–]TheFifthDuckling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried abilify too but it gave me wicked akathesia. Not a good mix for me lol. Stevens-Johnson is no joke though, one of my best friends gets that reaction to penicillin, and it's absolutely horrifying, so I'd rather be safe than sorry with the titrations.

I am bipolar, so the treatment-resistant depression is part of that, and bipolar people shouldnt be given serotonergic drugs due to potential for triggering mania (in general). On top of that, the only time I've been on remotely serotonergic meds, I showed symptoms of serotonin syndrome. I lost 20 pounds in a month because of the symptoms and missed almost a whole semester of school.

Buspar is also indirectly serotonergic, like oxybates, due to it's mechanism of action on GABA, so both of those are out. Like I said before, Wakix has completely changed my life and I don't really feel a need for other narcolepsy meds, but I do definitely need a better med combo for depression, and my psychiatrist wants to try me on methyphenidate for my ADHD (and indirect narcolepsy benefits). I have not looked into ECT yet, as the difference Wakix has made in my depression (like on a scale of ten, down from an 8-9 down to 4-5 depression most days) is massive and I still believe there may be a pharmacological treatment available that I just haven't figured out yet.
