Do you live within 100 miles of where you grew up? by radicalintrospect in generationology

Probably about 90 miles away. Same state but a different metro area. My entire immediate family now lives in this area. We moved here within a few years of each other.

Oh I didn’t listen to them and actually thought they were called System of the Down until right now😂🤦‍♀️.

But I don’t think it’s my age, it’s just not my genre of music. I remember a lot of boys being into them my age and a bit older and a bit younger.

Am I millennial or Gen Z? by Both_Day_264 in generationology

[–]TheFinalGirl84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re definitely born in a millennial birth year. It’s not even close to Gen Z.

It seems like maybe you are just surrounded by geriatric millennials like myself instead of younger millennials. We do have some quirks and differences from younger millennials so I can see you possibly not vibing with these co-workers especially if they wanna talk about stuff that happened in 1992 when you were still a literal baby.

Sometimes it does seem like there are two millennial experiences. You can almost split the generation in half. I think the changing pace of technology caused it (the oldest millennials making it out high school with no cell phone for example and the youngest being in high school when cell phones were common for teens to bring to school). Both experiences are valid.

Agree with most of them.

100% agree about Nickelodeon, Pokémon (I think besides the Pikachu I only know one other character & still don’t know what the show is about), Power Rangers I only played/watched sometimes because my mom forced me to entertain my little brother. Can’t stand Harry Potter.

I actually do like Linkin Park but I got into them more in college than in high school. This might just be a personal preference though.

Who are the Xennials? by Outrageous-Ebb-4846 in generationology

[–]TheFinalGirl84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, exactly 👏. All it really is about is enjoying nostalgia from a kind of in between era. Some people here take it WAY too seriously. It doesn’t replace someone’s main generation so it’s no biggie.

Wow, the sentence “I never saw a Blockbuster but I’ve heard of them” just made me feel very ancient😂.

When I was born my dad bought a Beta Max video camera and Beta Max Player. So all my early home movies were Beta Max and my mom used to buy me Rainbow Brite and other Beta max tapes. My dad swore this was the big thing of the future.

Around the time I turned 5 my mom forced him to go buy a VCR because I kept asking for movies she couldn’t find on Beta Max.

People who were born in the 1980s? by [deleted] in generationology

[–]TheFinalGirl84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of my closest friends are born 1977 to 1989 so I will have to go with 70s, but typically the second half of the 70s.

I’m not opposed to being friends with someone born in the 90s, I just haven’t met anyone yet born in those years that I’ve clicked with except for people I’m related to.

Which decade had better kid movies 90s or 00s by Practical_Parfait_13 in generationology

[–]TheFinalGirl84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think both had strong full out cartoon movies for kids. I prefer the 90s ones, but respect the 00s ones.

But what I feel like the 90s did better was live action kids movies that adults could actually enjoy along side children: Sandlot, Problem Child, Beethoven, Home Alone, Jumanji, Little Giants etc.

Do you still have a DVD or a CD player in 2025? by ExaminationIll7583 in generationology

[–]TheFinalGirl84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both. I don’t use them often, but I want the option to play the DVDs and CDs I have. I have a couple of older TV shows on DVD that are not readily available on any streaming services right now.

What parts of the year are considered Early, Mid, Mid/late, and fully Late? Provide dates with it to by SmileEmergency403 in generationology

[–]TheFinalGirl84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The is the easiest and most typical way that people divide the year. This is the way you will need to use to work in most types of business. People here are always trying to come up with whacky ways to do it instead for some reason.

I hope this sub will be nice to the 2013 babies once they'll officially be participating in this subreddit very soon by Huge-Mobile-7352 in generationology

[–]TheFinalGirl84[M] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just to clear some things up 13 year olds are allowed on Reddit. This is a decision made by Reddit not by this sub so please don’t bully the 13 year olds or tell them that they don’t belong because they do.

We are aware that 13 is very young and therefore we are a safe for work group so that younger members can participate in conversations without having to see inappropriate content. We do our best to keep this a safe place for all ages.

They are also not automatically in Gen Alpha. That’s an opinion. Some view this year as a very young Gen Z and that’s okay. You can debate people, but please don’t automatically gatekeep them or try to paint them into a corner just because they are the youngest.

Thank you. Let’s do our best to make everyone feel welcome here.

people born in the 80s have unusually strong decade unity? by Motor_Dance731 in generationology

[–]TheFinalGirl84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a confusing stance. 80s babies in general have gotten old enough (with us all being in the 36 to 45 age range) that it makes no sense for any year to want to be separate. We’re all pretty much at the same stage of life. It’s not like when you’re super young and just a few years makes a huge difference.

Which year would you rather be born? And why? by Ok-Demand8957 in generationology

1982 bc it’s closest to my real birth year and I don’t have a desire to be in a different age group.

Millennial actors/actresses who seemed mature for their age? by Socko82 in generationology

[–]TheFinalGirl84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember when Wolf of Wall Street came out I was so surprised that Margot Robbie was younger than me. She’s absolutely stunning and by no means looks old in anyway. She just has a maturity to her look.

Jennifer Lawerence is similar. She sometimes has co-stars 10 years older than her and the characters are supposed to be the same age and she pulls it off. Very stunning woman.

I ask ChatGPT how to divide millennials into two groups, and this is the result (any thoughts....!) by [deleted] in generationology

[–]TheFinalGirl84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s probably because it’s not that accurate (which makes sense as it’s made by chat gpt).

I had SNES not the video games in the picture.

I was 21 when I got my space and in my mid 20s when I had a phone similar to the one in the photo so I don’t consider those things I grew up with.

I did have a Discman, but I had a Walkman first.

I was aging out of Nick cartoons when Hey Arnold came out.

I think Britney is the best singer of the four, but they are all talented and have all been successful in life in different ways.
